  1. Share your thoughts after you get to play with them. Enjoy.
  2. If you think you will throw any 1/2 lure, I would lean toward the 4 power. Any of the series in 733 should do great for what applications you have mentioned. Since I made my move to Dobyns, I have yet to purchase a casting rod ( except cranking ) in seven foot and like the extra three inches in my 733 and 734 models. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
  3. The key word was " coverless. " A 7 foot spinning rod with #8 to #10 will be so versatile for you. Go with a 3 power (m/f) and you can toss 1/16 to 3/8 ounce baits with ease. You have some excellent options in reels. Don't hesitate to buy a good quality used rod to soften the blow to you wallet. Your lure/presentation options will fill a full page. If you add a BC, figure it to be for baits at 3/16 Oz. and heavier. Packard covered it well. WELCOME TO THE FORUM !
  4. Which one of Oregon's 49 uniforms don't you like ? Phil Knight has tossed 300 million at the U of O in the last several years and over 150 million at Stanford. I think Rayjus should provide NFL garb.
  5. I used it a jig tralier in Okeechobee Craw in April and it worked really well. The black blue and watermelon red was a good pitch bait the fall. It's a good bait.
  6. I noticed the photo in your avatar. It looks like a solitary mind in deep contemplation. It's almost spiritual. A mere being asking one of two life changing questions. What is the center of the universe ??? What color of DD22 do I order first? Oh and what the heck is a plug knocker ? Sorry A-jay, i'm overdosed on Nyquil.
  7. Very nice A-Jay. May I suggest a plug knocker ? Great selection of baits. You will love it. Get on the right ledge or hump and " Thwonnnngggggg." Then comes that big head shake and the surge...you gain some line and the rod tips bends and the surge is so strong you drop the tip to the water and then lift and gain a little more line. More surges, more line and then their she is, all 1.72 pounds of massive catfish. Deep crankin' baby...that's what i'm about.
  8. For the applications you have listed, I would lean toward the Dobyns 703. If you plan on skipping docks, you will love this rod. I have the 702 Savvy and 703 Champion. The 703 power makes this a very versatile rod.
  9. This bait appears to be out of production. Check with local independent shops, ebay and the web. You can give LJ a call in case they have some odds and ends in the factory. I will check my local dealer for you. Doug
  10. Those color coded rubber bands are a nice touch. Yellow: Brand new hook Blue: Recently sharpened hook Red: Needs replaced Green: Mixed hook sizes I do the exact same thing.
  11. Get on Youtube and look up Ima Roumba and watch and learn. Pay special attention to the rod position during retrieves. It's a niche' bait. When the conditions are there, it's a special lure. I'm a cautious buyer but popped for one thinking it would be a bust. I was wrong, again. It's worth having at least one.
  12. Glacier neopreme glove with fold back thumb and forefinger. Check TW site.
  13. I have tried: Reaction Strike, Yum, Shadaliscious, Berkley and Basstrix. So far the Basstrix has been the best producer for me. I'm looking forward to opinions too. I have heard good reports on Netbait's offering. Anybody ?
  14. I fished my first tournament about 7 years ago. It was a team event, the venue I prefer. I have fished as the boater and the back seater. I love both. It's about helping each other come up with five. I don't fish for the money but haven't turned a check down either. The events have been small opens and the guys that fish them are repeat guys so you get to make friends. I like the bar-B-Q after and just getting to know other guys. My wife and daughter even come out to the weigh-ins at the local events. Just fish one on a body of water you know and go with an open mind. Fish your strengths, fish the fish and not the other's out there and have some fun. You might really enjoy it.
  15. I went out for winter steelies today. First trip of the season. Our weather has been unusually dry and cold so the water was very low and clear. No fish caught and none seen and this river has been very good to me in the past. Slow low water meant jig and bobber. As soon as we get some rain.....LOOK OUT.
  16. Christmas day is a flex at our house. I have worked the last 10 Christmas Days, be it days or swings, same with 12/24. My kids are grown and I have two precious grand-daughters. I took vacation this year to spend it with them and my other daughter. Soooooooo, the wife tells me we are driving to her brother's 166 miles away for the day. She has alot of family, I don't. Her family is my family. ( i'm smiling, really. ) I want to know what Red's wife is fixing for breakfast. Merry Christmas all !!!!
  17. When I saw the Title, I thought it was about NBA player's salaries. Silly me.
  18. I use a Dobyns Champion 734C which is rated as a MHF so you should be good for that lure weight rating. It will also be a more versatile rod if that's important to you. I wouldn't go any lighter than MHF. If you will be fishng heavier cover, deep or long casts, lean toward the heavy. Good fishing.
  19. I live in the PNW and it has been known to rain from time to time. I leave baits in thier original bags and separate them by type in Zip-Lok freezer bags. If I travel and use my soft side, they still go in smaller freezer bags. There's a bunch of ways to pack em' but that works well for me.
  20. Please don't take my post out of context. It was an observation and not condemnation of an act. although I don't believe Ike is doing anything the help his position as an elite professional angler. To his CREDIT, for those who were not privy to the event as a whole, Ike fished the tournament as well as any angler could and he and Combs, by evidence of their total weights, set themselves apart from the rest of the field. Ike located a series of spots, managed them perfectly, refined his pattern, adapted to change, fished fatastically. It was amazing to watch his skills and abilities. I had to laugh because he had the moment, and you could see him pause, and made the conscious decision as to how he would react to Combs' landing that winning fish and yet, chose to behave as he did. I have a saying, you don't loose your temper, you give it away. Unfortunately I omitted the follow up scene in which Ike is calm and matter of fact and comments that he fished a great tournament. I found the lashing out a contrast and funny. Ike is not the boogie man of professional angling, he just allows himself to be the negative poster child at times. That does not negate his skills.
  21. So much for TEVO/DVR. Combs was down about 17 pounds with an hour to fish on shortened day and Ike had a hot morning. Combs got hot the last hour and they TIED !! Both went to sudden death and the first angler to catch a keeper over 14 inches took the 100K and boat first prize. With 8 minutes left in the hour period, Combs cranked a 15 incher. Ike's official got the call and confirmed the win for Combs. Ike wacked his rod and shattered it on the gunnel and hurled the butt section and reel in the lake. Thank God it wasn't a running light pole with an American flag attached. I wonder if the rod has a warrantee that covers damage by emotional outbreak under stress? I just laughed.
  22. Taco Bland. I think he was from Alabama. I recall he fished pretty high in a BASS event fishing a little jig head with a straight tail worm. He just dropped it and shook it, thus the technique was born called the " Shakey Head. " The event was won in 30 feet of water on spotted bass. The winner's name escapes me. He was from the northeast. Hope this helps. Edit: Danny Corriea (spelling ) won it I think
  23. Just finished watching the Texas Bass Classic. I laughed my butt off. I don't want to ruin it if you haven't seen it but the last 5 minutes is pricelss.
