New Excels
I picked up a 2011 Lamiglas catalog Sunday and noted they added ten models in the Excel line. Three micos in 7' and seven 6'6" models (standard guides). I hope to have a 663 soon for topwater. We shall see. Two weeks at work without a day off has me bummed. >

A Little Curado, Fenwick and Megabass Love (some photos)
Did you get the french doors with the built in blinds ? What brand of lock set did you use? I really like Schlage. They can come with coordinated keys. Where I live we have to install steel door because of all the wet weather. Wood just swells too much. Oh...nice combo, if your really into fishing.

Anyone thrown one of these with success?
Looks like a Luhr Jensen Hot Lips to me. This a very underrated bait. One of my favorite crankbaits to reach the 10 to 12 foot range. They seem to hit max depth really quick so they are effective on steep banks. The Delta Red, Chrystal Craw and Mud Craw are my favorite patterns. Fish that dude!! Put some Owners or Gammi's on it first.

That's your regular price ?
I don't know. I can check. I don't want to over step the boundaries and compromise the forum's sponsors.

My local tackle store adjusted pricing on Revos and I couldn't believe it. 2010 Premiers @ 209.99, 2010 Winches @ 179.99 and an in store promotion on 2009 Revo SX's righties and lefties....99.97 ! Anyone else seeing deep discounts ?

1st Flippin Stick, 1st Impressions.
Red, I'm glad to hear your report and you are pleased with your new rod. I've toured the factory and have seen first hand what goes into design and building the Excels and the other models. I have been pleading with Lamiglas to build a 764 pitching stick in the Excel line. Looks like it may be out later this fall with some other new models. Let me/us know how things go. Go whack em' !

What to ask for my birthday
Okay Code Red, I won't comment on your choice for a reel or your relationship with your cousin. If you are serious about a micro guide rod with a split grip, you might want to wait a just a bit. Lamiglas is expanding the Excel series and adding micros to three models, two cast and one spinning. There's some new additional models to come but it's not for me to release that information. PM me if you want or check out Tackle Tour.

Spider grub alternative ?
I'm afraid Yamamoto's last price increase did me in. I am a big fan of the 4 inch Hula Grub. I have looked at all the usual catalog options, YUM, Chompers, Kinami, BPS and so on. I thought one of you might have a local, regional jobber or independent who markets a similar product at a good price. If you do, would you pass it on. Thanks in advance. I appreciate it !

Broken "Yellow Stick"
There once was guy who was was mellow, and now he's unhappy fellow. He set the hook with such force it caused him some remorse Now he won't buy a rod that is yellow. That hurts. >

done with yo zuri hybrid, any recommendations?
If you aren't happy, don't have confidence in YoZuri line, switch to another brand. If you don't ever swing another 5 to 6 pound fish after reading the prior posts, so you don't break off that brand as well, you don't really have the evidence to blame the line. A guy walked in to my local tackel dealer with a spool of YZ #8 and made the statement he was using it for leaders on salmon rigs and broke off 6 fish in a row. They gave him a refund. I bought the remainder of the spool for a reduced price. I bent wire hooks on my tube jig heads trying to break them off when stagged up. It wasn't the lines fault it was the application. Just a thought.

Okuma Trio Spinning Reel.
Well I didn't do my homework. The Okuma, although a great value only had a retrieve of 25 inches per revolution. I took it back and traded up and went with a different manufacture altogther.

$120ish Drop Shot Rod Options
One more option: Lamiglas Excel XL702S. made in the USA 100%, can't beat the warrantee and it's a quality product for under a hundred bucks. Take the the 20 bucks you save and pick up some more Robo worms.

Snaps
I was sceptical about snaps. My buddy threw a package of Mustad dual style snaps in my cart and TOLD me I had to try them. His statement was the single thin strand of wire on the snap allows a crankbait to reach it's full action. The split rings had two larger wires so they are in theory more restrictive. So far so good. The convenience of quick changes is just a bonus. I have not lost a bait yet.

Good gear ratio for Chatterbaits
A 5 to 1 ratio will give you the torque you need and save your wrist and arm. If you were throwing with a 7 to 1 and have at least a 6.4 to 1 you might want to at least try before you invest in another reel if you don't have to. I use the 5 to 1 for big spinnerbaits when making missile casts for smallmouth.

Deep Diving Crankbait Rod
You are looking at three great options. The Lamiglas is a glass blank and if you want glass it's one of the very best on the market. I have the SR705R and it is outstanding but it's glass. There's no argument graphite is lighter and more sensitive. If you are looking for that slower forgiving action go glass. If sensitivity is the driving force go graphite. A buddy of mine swears by the high end Dobyns rods.

Abu Garcia Revo STX
I picked up two 09's for a hundred bucks a piece, new in box. I really like them. I haven't found a REVO model I didn't like. The 2010 does have dual cast control and a swept handle but at twice the price the difference in performance is pretty minor. AWESOME DRAG on this reel !!! I will never slight a Curado. It's a great reel but the deals on Shimano just aren't out there.

When is a Dink no longer considered a Dink?
When it becomes a ba-donk-a-donk. So when does a "rat" become a " knot head?" When does a " schooler " become a " tournament grade fish?" I'm confused by all this nomenclature. :-/

Ardent XS1000 Review.... Confused?
I said it before and I'll say it again, I would give anything to see an American made reel that performed as well as the competition. Unfortunately my local dealer had everyone of the X1000's they sold come back. The last one is still on the counter at 99.99. I'm rooting for you Ardent but you're not there yet.
