  1. I began the numerous loops up after reading about it with the straight Albright. The more the merrier they said and I found it to be true. So I applied it to the Alberto and it worked well. Absolutely necessary, no. I can tie a tight Alberto with less especially before hitting the water. When on the water, more wraps helped ensure my knot whilst the wind and waves were assailing....
  2. Yeah, definitely try that. I had to double my wraps when I use 6# line -- I do upwards of 15-20 wraps up and 6-10 back down. Found that was the trick to keeping it from slippage. I'm also using PP 10# and PPSS8 15# ....
  3. Rarely do I break off at the leader knot. Depending on how you're tying the Alberto, try doing more wraps up and back. Eg., wrap your 20lb braid up say 15 times if you only do it 8 now, or go up even more wraps then come back down 6-10 wraps, moisten and cinch it really well. Once you've got it there, cut the tags off and give it a pull test. Still good, fish it. If it keeps breaking at the leader, try a dab of super glue. If it keeps breaking, change line, or change back to the uni-x2 knot and see if your breakage changes. If you already do the 15 wraps up, etc., try more.
  4. We have Cox here in Hampton Roads. Been with them for a long time. But the price gouging got to the point I called to dump them - this after years of discounts after calling and asking for them. I told them I was going to keep internet and dump TV. We dumped our home phone service too. She said that'll be ~$69.95 per month. ... OOOOORRRRR ... we can offer you *Basic* cable AND the same internet package for $65/month. I scratched my head and said wait! For LESS than just internet your going to give me Internet AND TV? OK, sign me up. But now I've lost a few channels, and more to go with the all-digital extortion scheme. I don't want to pay for 3 set top boxes now. Verizon just came into the area with FiOS and double Cox speeds with TV for about the same money, so we may very well switch to Verizon so long as the cable they run is buried. With all the hurricanes we get, if they run the cable from the pole to my house (aerial) it will inevitably go offline. Often I can have Internet even if there's an outage now (generator).
  5. Yes, but mostly I fish weightless. That said, my favorite wacky jig heads are Buckeye FlickIt in 1/16 and 3/32 heads. I like the football head style, and boy have I caught some nice bass on them. And I fish the black versions.
  6. Seriously?! I figured you've fished everything, Kent. Nice video, Glenn. I agree with your stance, though I actually love both weighted and weightless. I catch more weightless in my waters.
  7. First, welcome aboard, Johnathan! Personally, I release all the fish I catch now. Have kept crappie and a bass or two 30 years ago. Fish just isn't a staple in my diet. I'll let others eat 'em.

  9. Well, you may find a "secret" color that really works well for you. For instance, I fell in love with the Bass Pro XPS tourney Stik-O in two colors: Watermelon Magic, and Hot Pepper Frog. I've got a buddy who fishes the same places I do, and he loves the watermelon magic, but not the Hot Pepper Frog color... So it comes down to you experimenting with different colors and finding ones that work for your style of fishing. You use that color and build confidence in it. Not really scientific, as confidence can't necessarily be codified given that one color does not necessarily produce the same results for all fishermen.
  10. I do so both inside and out in my yard with both my spinning and casting gear....
  11. Welcome aboard! I've tried the red hook thing. Didn't see any increase in my catch rate. Science may say it matters, but my experience says it doesn't really matter. Some people swear by red hooks. I do not. Your mileage may vary As for lure colors, I like to stick to "natural" colors like watermelons, green pumpkins, blacks, browns, etc. For hard lures, I've tried the bleeding gills and so on, but honestly didn't see any difference from lures that didn't have bleeding gills.
  12. I do not unload the drags, typically.
  13. Brand: gamakatsu Hooks: splitshOt/dropshot and wide gap finesse <--corrected!! removed the "i" for an "O" Sizes: 1/0 mainly but I will use 4-3/0

  17. My response to your immensely clean room is that from Jacques in Finding Nemo:
  18. I have enough trouble even getting on the water these days. Besides, I usually avoid tourneys just not my thing.
  19. Ditto on the healthy bass you caught! Nice job!
  20. Awesome fish. Beautiful coloration, too. I'm starting to get jealous of all y'all who are gettin' out. I just renewed my yearly boating permit (motorized kayak) at my fav. reservoir. Biting the bit to get out....
  21. Forgot to mention, since your up Richmond way, that you should be able to pick these up at Appomattox River Company there. The one in Hampton has/had them. Also, I saw some at BPS and DSG. Spot on. Fish first, get to know the yak, then drill your holes. You can patch the holes once you made one, but it'll still be there, and perhaps an eye sore.... Took me 2 to 3 years to really understand how I fish out of my yak. Even so, I always experiment with new ideas, and yes, I've got a couple holes I drilled I wish I didn't.
  22. Welcome aboard! If the rain has swollen the waters, I tend to move closer to the shoreline. A TX rig thrown up shallow and fished back nice and slow would be a good choice. Wacky rigs thrown by laydowns are always killer. I'll let others chime in who primarily fish hard lures, as I'm primarily a soft plastics guy.
  23. Nice! You can drag and drop attachments onto the bottom of the window you're typing in. You should see an image of a paperclip across from the box "Insert other media". Just make sure the size is under the max of 7.32MB
