  1. In a word, and in my opinion...no. I have a 600 yard spool of 4 lb test and it is stronger than rated, more like a good 6 lb test line. But I don't use it except for certain situations, i.e., when I feel like it, LOL. I use regular YZH and like it as a leader much better than the soft.
  2. Welcome aboard, Andrew!
  3. Welcome aboard, DJ!
  4. Another vote for anchor trolleys - one on each side. My next purchase for my yak will be a trolly for the left side. Many can get away with a 24' retractible dog leash and a heavy 24" section of chain, or a dumbbell, or some sort of anchor. My reservoirs are maybe 20' at the deepest when flooded. That said, a drift sock is another option. Or, do what I did and set up a trolling motor helps a lot with the wind. However, wind can still frustrate the daylights out of me, so there's no perfect solution to stay put or stay sane in windy conditions, LOL.
  5. Welcome aboard, Bill! Some good waters down on the Southside, they say!

Welcome aboard, and happy birthday - in 7 days, that is!
  8. I'll either switch hands or pitch the bait. Never gotten the hang of roll casting, maybe because I need to be higher up than I can stand in my kayak...not sure.
  9. Hello and welcome aboard!
  10. Welcome aboard!
  11. Man, that's a beautiful reel.

  13. Softies all the time. Incredible, productive. Love 'em
  14. I'd say laydowns, tree stumps, grass.
  15. Happens. Be glad is wasn't a $30 spool of fluorocarbon!
  16. Never heard of the line, but it sounds like it may have kinks-o-plenty from your professional overrun... One reason I use braid for mainline on my casters. At least in my experience it has been easier to pick out, and line kinks are not a problem. On the other hand, it could be a weak, old line you received, but my money would be on blaming the birds nest. Have you tried to take a section of line and break it on your own (not on the reel)? Like wrapping it around your hands (gloves on) and see if it breaks easily?
  17. Fantastic bass! Congrats!
  18. Todd, as a fan of shorter rods, I'd opt for the 6'6" model. I'm a kayak fisherman who prefers the shorter models for the areas I fish. I don't need the length for greater casting distance, etc., and I prefer the accuracy -- in my experience -- of shorter rods. But that's me. If you're bank-bound, those extra inches in the 7' will give you a little more sling to your bait, not sure how much, but physics.... If you're looking for a do-it-all, MH.

    Hi Dredd, welcome aboard!
  22. Gotta love the small fighters. Chiclids and Oscars! Aquarium tanks are where I've seen them. Up here in VA we've not got anything so interesting, but plenty fun in bluegills, perch... Are they considered invasive species down in FL? Yeah, I could look it up, I suppose....
  23. Wow! Awesome catch, and closer to 9 than she is to 8!
