  1. I scored some Daiichi hooks for $2.50 / pack last week at Walmart, but didn't see any megadeals on rods.
  2. I'd make the cast, absolutely. I don't want my last cast ever to be the biggest bass of my life, you know what I mean? Bass fishing isn't the most important thing in my life. I want to catch it when I can. If it is when the Genie says, then so be it. There will be plenty more bass of weight up to that "lifetime" catch to keep me sated!
  3. Here's the BPS Ascend PFD I was talking about: http://www.basspro.com/Ascend-Paddling-Fishing-Life-Jacket/product/10225851/
  4. Nice looking reel. Is that a 4000 size? I can make out a 40 there on the blue accent.
  5. Power Pro fan here, leader is really up to you. I go from 6-15 lb test in fluoro coated P-Line Floroclear, fluoro-bonded Yo Zuri Hybrid, pure FC, etc... I've tried other brands, keep coming back to good ol' Power Pro. But that's just my thing. I want to try new brands, eventually, but the stuff's expensive, lasts a long time.
  6. Well that's really gonna be up to you. There are a number of different kayak PFDs out there. Do you want a fishing version? Bass Pro makes a good one, Ascend brand. I bought one, like it, look forward to upgrading some day, tho. You can find high back versions, low back versions, etc. If you can get to a kayak store and a BPS to try stuff on, that'll give you a great idea. There's also the option of buying an inflatable, which would be the most comfortable and least sweaty in the summer. BPS has several on sale in the upcoming Spring Classic. Hope that's a little bit of help to ya.
  7. Oh my. Where to start. I've tried so many IPAs and craft brews. For strength of taste, my fave: Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Straight Belgian: Roquefort All the rest are in my memory somewhere. But I have to be honest, I'm more into Bud Light Platinum these days than anything else. All the other stuff is so heavy, and packs on the beer belly. Oh, and Miller's Fortune is a pretty decent beer. But I'm not a snob, so you won't find my reviews on beer advocate and all that.

    A running joke with Big-O...
  9. Welcome aboard, Jeff. Fan of Ontario! Been in the province many times.

Believe you recycled that picture, Big-O. Time to come clean and admit you use a green background and fabricate the pictures using the same bass you caught 10 years ago.

    Welcome aboard!
  12. I can't really tell any difference between the two other than the II series have a much higher quality guide. They're same modulus graphite, etc., pretty sure it's just the guides that make the price difference. Me? I'm interested in both. I like the trade-in value of both, and am considering the II at this point - for the guide upgrade.
  13. Nice. Invisibird.
  14. Beautiful bass!
  15. Hard to argue with most of the suggestions, thus I like the Easter Island metaphor. So I'll suggest Clunn, R. Martin, H. Parker, Dance... and many more in the Pantheon of Fishing Greats.
  16. You betcha! Got one for my Chronarch 50e and love it! The owners frequent the boards here, so I'm sure they'll chime in. But just a Q, do you have any extensions that disable advertisements or java-script blocking extensions installed in your browser? Temporarily disable them and see if the site works. Also, how about a different browser? As well (sorry for the Qs), are you at home, or behind a company firewall? That can be an issue if such sites are blocked.
  17. Well, as they say, it's easier to apologize after the fact than ask for permission first. Good luck! Heh heh heh...
  18. Where's your wife in all of this?! That's usually the remedy, LOL!!
  19. You looking at Native Watercraft pedal system, or Hobie? Personally, I want a Hobie Pro Angler, but the price is way out of reach for now...
  20. Look, everyone is different. Does versatility mean you have to use both BC and spinning? Not necessarily. The example of Fish Chris is spot-on. SirSnook fishes spinning gear for fresh/salt. I use both, but could use spinning for everything if I wanted to. But I *wanted* to learn BC, so I bought some. I love using them, but they are not necessary for me, they're something I choose to use. Again, I could do everything I want with spinning gear... Another reason I don't use spinning all the time is to give my elbows a break. I reel lefty with spinning gear, righty with BC gear. Helped me with my fishing elbow issues.
  21. Well, I started out with a cheap paddle, and boy was it exhausting to use. Heavy, which made it inefficient. I bought a carbon paddle with my Native Ultimate and have been 100% happier. And it's not a high-end model, only about $130 retail. Typically they size paddles this way: you hold your hand up as high as you can (don't stretch), if you can curl your fingers over the top of the paddle, it's about the right length. With your yak, that should work fine. If a wider kayak, some go longer than that.
  22. Cool. I remember futzing around with some of those settings, but I don't recall if they were the fixes...
  23. To me this is the best answer. If you're not sure what to spool up with, just try out the BPS mono for zilch, nada. I did this for one of my spinning reels years ago. Since then I now use braid for everything, then tie on a leader. But I'd go with Hootie's recommendation.
