Sure, and Snook is right, we call 'em "floats" today There are techniques which use floats for bass fishing, and I've actually experimented wacky worming under a float. Caught several 2 pound bass like that. The worm remained suspended and in the current, just continued to "flutter" at the prescribed depth enticing bass. Don't do it very often, but it can and does work. I almost always use floats when live bait fishing. Makes things easier, and lots of fun, IMO. Edit: the round-style, plastic red/white, orange, etc., I call bobbers. I never use those. I only use pencil-style floats, Thill being the most common. I even use very long floats used by Asian fishermen, commonly for bottom fishing. They rise at the bite as opposed to dunk under.

I snell all my worm hooks unless they're weighted and don't have enough room to snell. I've even figured out how to successfully snell a weedless wacky hook.

I just experimented with this the other night. Found a group of feeding bass, caught several on braid + leader, then I snagged, had to break the leader, didn't want to take the time to retie a new one so I cut off the remaining stretched leader and went straight yellow braid. Threw the exact same worm that was killing them. Nada, zip, zamboni. Decided to tie a new leader on after all, 5 more bass before I called it quits. Now if I had a marker to color the last few feet of line, may have made a diff. Dunno. But in this one instance, it sure seemed to make the diff between catching fish and not. I normally tie a leader anyhow, just my preference. Having stuff like this happen only serves to reinforce using a leader for me. And the leader(s) I use are clear fluorocarbon, mist green P-Line floroclear, or camo green Yo-Zuri Hybrid. The one which disappears most (to my eyes) in waters I fish is the mist green floroclear.

Very interesting! Another DIY is to use a golf ball retriever. Telescopic, lightweight. Maybe better solution for kayaking, given heavier weight/material of a boat. I use a $75 7' Stick-It Anchor pin. Believe it is made of the same material used by PowerPole anchors. They also offer a mount for using it on a boat.

I've used Yo Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid UltraSoft, mono, etc., on spinning reels, didn't like how they managed. Didn't like having to always condition line with KVD's special sauce. 10 lb braid mainline is what I use now, hi-viz yellow, and I always tie on a leader of various poundage. Braid is just that much superior than any other line (IMO & experience, YMMV) as to management on spinning gear.

Not quite sure what he might've meant, either. In my experience, when a fish spins or rolls, it isn't the knot I'm worried about, it's the abrasive rubbing on the line if the line + hook are down in the mouth. Never seen a fish do a death roll that would twist the line to the point of snapping, though. I used the uni-to-uni frequently until I learned the Albright and Albright Special/mod'd. It is a thinner profile knot than the uni-to-uni, so goes through guides better. I've been watching videos recently of the Sebile/gt knot. Can't figure how to tie it yet, but the idea is like a Chinese finger trap...
