  1. If someone pitches at a carp for 45 minutes before realizing it's a carp, they've never seen a carp before. And what carp let's you throw at them for that long? Every carp I see is quick to get away from me.
  2. They were bass...how anyone could possibly mistake a Carp for a Large Mouth Bass is beyond me. I too have seen bass in very shallow water, or even if they are in deeper water, they will be at the very top of it, with fins sticking out of the water. No clue what they're doing though...
  3. I am just about to mount my transducer into the inside of my kayak, and I am kind of nervous. I went out and bout what was recommended by a few people on this site (thank you). It is 3M 5200. I was reading the instructions for the transducer, and it says that I need to use a 2 part epoxy, and nothing with Silicon. I am not a chemist, but on the contents list of this adhesive, silica is mentioned a few times. Should I not use this stuff? Thanks guys!
  4. I'm pretty sure Strippers are from the same family as perch actually. They are very common for Strippers on the Cheasapeake, but they use big plastic swimbaits. I've only seen people use umbrella rigs in fresh water for cats.
  5. Big Mepps lures (Aglia 4/5) work pretty well on Walleyes in the Potomac...really just about anything works on them there. I catch them on tubes and senko's just like I catch bass.
  6. I do one better...I actually stop and fish. I ALWAYS have a rod and reel in my car. I actually once stopped and fished in a drainage ditch. I figured if there were fish in there, they'd hit anything I threw...there were no fish in there.
  7. Zoom flukes are great. Yamamoto Senko's and Fat Ika's are amazing. Berkly power worms are great...soft plastics are the way to go.
  8. I have a pair of half jackets, the fishing specific ones. They're amazing.
  9. Oh, and I would much rather catch a 28'' Bass than a 30'' pick. Heck, I'd rather catch a 15'' bass than a 30'' pick.
  10. I did not realize that these pickerel were that big. In this body of water, 25'' picks are almost common. They are savage, and eat everything. They're fun to catch until you realize it's not a bass...
  11. Most of the picks where I'm fishing are not that big...maybe 15'' or so and quite thin. Some however, are pretty big...at least to me. I've caught some that are 30'' long. Thanks for the info though guys. I won't let those d**n picks discourage me.
  12. Went to my local spot today, and the Pickerel were non stop. I probably caught 8 of them in an hour, and lost many more. I was there for bass though...I did catch 4 bass, but I'd rather have caught 12 bass, and no Picks. My question is this: I know that bass and picks' compete for the same food source, but do they hate each other? Will Picks and Bass hang out in the same spot? I would throw my bait in, (Fat Ika is amazing) and catch a pick, and wonder if it was worth throwing back in the same spot. I wasn't sure that a Bass would be in there after just pulling out a pick. Any thoughts?
  13. Went out and got some 4/0 hooks. Slid those baby's in and all I could think was how I"m going to SLAY the bass tomorrow... I'd be out right now, but I have to go to a gala with my wife. Free food and drinks though. I'd still rather be bass fishing.
  14. I was rigging it backwards, and the bass were killing it...I just had a tiny hook on there I guess. Thanks for the help guys!
  15. I am hoping that Road Warrior will respond to this. He seems to be the authority on this lure. (I tried the search...) I was getting bit like NUTS today on this little guy. Unfortunately I lost the majority of them. I have a feeling my hooks were to small. I think I was using a 2/0. Is that to small? I didn't even have them skin hooked...was the problem me, or the hook? Thanks!
  16. Just wanted to know if this was good enough stuff. I went to my local Hope Depot, and this was the only thing I could find that was even close to what I have seen described. It's called LOCTITE. It's a marine epoxy (two party) and it sets in 50 mins. I know people say 24 hour, but there was none of that. Is that key? If so, I'll just have to order some from off the internet I guess. Thanks!!
  17. I like Stren line. It's pretty cheap, and does the trick.
  18. You may be correct, but I doubt it. It was surrounded by beer cans. The person got loaded and forgot their stuff. It's pretty common at the reservoir I fish at. I found an entire tackle box last year...it was surrounded by beer cans and a marijuana pipe. The other thing...if you can't afford a tackle box, why do you by a $90 reel? It was 6:30 in the morning; there was no one there.
  19. AHHHH I feel so foolish!! Thanks guys!!
  20. I have two bait casters now, and both are rated for 12 lb test. To me, one of the purposes of a bait caster is so you can have really strong line on it. 12 lb is not that strong to me...so my question is this: Can you put thicker line on a bait caster that says it's rated for 12 lb's, or is it better to throw braid on it? I am scared by braid...I don't want to ruin my guides and reel. Thanks for the help guys!
  21. I did great with a little curly tailed grub with an 1/8 jig head on it for spawn fishing. Just barely moving it...they can't help but kill it. As far as glasses, I have a pair of Fishing Specific Oakley's. They have a brownish tint I guess. They're amazing. I don't know how I ever fished without them.
  22. I was fishing a really steep bank, so I was about 20 feet from the shore line. I have a bad leg, so I have to sit quite often. I sat down on a fallen tree, and noticed a little 3'' grub bait. Next to it was a plastic bag. I looked in the bag, and saw the reel, two Rapala's, a bunch of jig heads, and some sinkers!! What a morning!
  23. Fished Loch Raven this morning. Caught a small/medium bass, but found an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur B.C Reel. Seems to be in pretty good shape. Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped!
  24. 5500C3 It also says "The Original" as well as 5:3:1 Gear Ratio.
  25. I was fishing and found an Abu Garcia Ambassadaur Bait Casting reel. It is awfully big...I was just wondering if it would be suitable for bass fishing, and if it is, what kind of rod do I need to attach it to? I'm pretty pumped to have found it. I know they're kind of pricey (for me anyway), and it seems to be in good shape. Oddly enough, there was no rod to be found.
