Bassmaster, In-Fisherman, Field and Stream, and Virginia Game and Fish. IMO the best one is Bassmaster, but for local info the best would be VA Game and Fish.

Bad hooksets.
Wehn you feel a bite on a jig, depending on the line you are using, you need to really slam that rod back as fast and hard as possible. For example, if you are throwing a 1/4oz. finesse jig on 10lb. test you don't need to really slam the rod back, because the lightwire hook on the jig will penetrate the bass's mouth easily. But when you are pitching a 1/2oz. jig to a tree with 20 or 30lb. test you really need to jerk that fish's lips off, mainly because it takes a harder hookset to get that big heavy hook into a bass's mouth but also you want to get that fish out of the cover in a hurry. So basically just set the hook as hard as you can with the equipment you are using, and also with a jig the hookset should be more of an upwards jerk than sweep-set.

How Many Fish Do You Lose Each Trip?
I dont't lose many fish, however I do seem to have a problem losing the big fish. In fact I have a streak going now, the last 8 times I've been out I have lost every fish over 4lbs. I dont know why or how, it just seems like whenever I hook a big fish it's destined to find its way off the hook.

fly rod for bass
I love tossing Dahlburg Divers and deer hair bugs in the morning and then switching to streamers like the woolly bugger or the shinabou shiner during the midday hours.

Sunny Population
Well, you could chuck a few M-80's in there to take care of 'em, or you could keep 'em and have bream fillets for dinner. I suggest the latter

Re: what bass is your favorite to fish for?
I love smallies, spots, and largemouths, but nothing beats a peacock on the other end

small mouth to peacock bass
Hooking into a peacock is like hooking into a freight train. Even though I've never caught a smallie over 3lbs I think I can safely say that peacock bass are in a league of their own. They are extremely aggressive, fight harder than any freshwater gamefish, and have beautiful markings.

Night Fishing
My favorite nogh bait of all time is a 5/8oz. black jitterbug. Throw it along stumps and shallow wood and just wait for the frightening explosions. My buddy's dad has fished with a black jitterbug exclusively at night for 15+ years and has caught 12 10+lb. fish.

Post Spawn
I usually fish any drop-off, ledge, or point that is near a spawning flat. I comb these areas carefully with sow moving baits like weightless senkos, small jigs, c-rigged sweet beavers, and maybe even a drop-shot rig. Basically I try to find areas that will hold a good concentration of fish and I work them slowly with high percentage baits.

skip casting
I use a 6'6" Medium action spinning rod. The extra fast tip really helps to whip a weightless trick worm or senko way up under a dock or tree. But I also like using a 6'6" MH casting rig to skip jigs under docks. To skip with casting tackle you really have to get a good feel for when and how much pressure you should apply to the spool with your thumb, it takes a lot of practice but once you get it down it is a very effective technique.

How often do you try a new bait?
I try something new pretty much everytime I go out. Whether it be a new bait, color, rig, etc. I always try to give the fish something different to look at.

Which do you prefer to catch
PEACOCKS ALL THE WAY!!! I catch peacocks in the canals of melbourne and west palm in Florida, the way they smash a topwater bait and fight until the very end is simply amazing.

Topwater Question
I have actually found that walking baits and especially prop baits, like a devil's horse, can be very effective when there is a small chop on the surface. You just have to work them with a little more oomph

Buzzbait Poll
I voted seldom, I stick with buzzbaits in the early morning and evening, unless its overcast or rainy.

PETA tournament alert
That has got to be the stupidest thing I have EVER heard PETA needs to just shut-up stop trying to disrupt our God given freedoms, if one of them PETA **** ever tries to disrupt my tournament or even fun fishing I swear I will rearange their face.

What determines what you do most?
The first thing I look at is the water temperature. I believe the water temp will dictate where the fish are located, at what depth they are located, and the mood the fish will be in. And I try to adjust and adapt to different water conditions, although sometimes it doesnt exactly work out the way I planned

Whens the time to fish
RIGHT NOW!!! I fish the James for smallies frequently and spring action can be HOT!!! Especially on super flukes, small spinnerbaits, small crankbaits, and suspending jerkbaits.

OMG!!!!! :o :o :o :o That fish is a freak of nature, it looks like it ate a bowling ball...wait make that 2 bowling balls. If I ever caught a fish like that.......my head would probably explode. But seriously, I would have at least taken measurements on the dang thing.

How to fish cold muddy waters
JIGS!!! This is one of those situations where a 1/2oz. or 3/8oz. jig in black/blue or blue/purple really shines. Toss it tight to heavy cover and work it SLOW, just shake it and gently drag it across the bottom.
