  1. That rod is "technique specific" for spinnerbaits. To me, that translates to: spinnerbaits (obviously), bladed jigs, buzzbaits, and possibly large lipless cranks around grass. Knowing that St. Croixs are usually a little more stout than most other rods with the same ratings, I bet you could get away with throwing t-rigged soft plastics with it as well. It probably won't be any good for heavy duty applications but I'm sure it will be quite versatile otherwise.
  2. My vote goes to the Tat CT. I only have one, and didn't use it a ton last season, but for the price, I don't think there's much better out there.
  3. HAHA I feel the exact same way about Watermelon.
  4. The best thing to do in this situation is to learn how to adjust your preferred techniques so they can be used efficiently in the given scenario. I've fished a lot of tournaments as a co-angler and rarely did I ever ask my boaters to slow down, speed up, turn the boat, fish deeper, shallower, etc. I just went with the flow, figured out how to adjust, and saw quite a bit of success. It has made me a really versatile angler.
  5. It's the older model. I imagine the new PQ will be $10 off or something like that. Typical BPS style.
  6. BOGO Berkley 100% flouro is a pretty good deal. That'll be it for me.
  7. Awesome fish! I'd love to take my father there some day.
  8. I would've jumped on those Crucials big time...Major props for fighting off the monkey!
  9. I think it also helps make your baits last longer. We all know Keitechs (and their look-alikes) aren't the most durable baits. Having that single treble on the bottom of the bait eliminates tearing up of the nose by screwlocks, bait barbs, etc.
  10. Nice fish man! I need to get away from the city and find a nice quiet place to wet a line.
  11. Hey everyone, I'm looking for a boater to link with for the BFL Northeast events on the Potomac and possibly the Chesapeake. Any interest? Thanks!
  12. I use a 7'6 XH Kistler Helium for punching. It has micro guides and a moderate fast taper. I've also used it with weights as small as 5/16 oz and thought it worked fine. It's certainly a bit overkill for flipping sparse cover with smaller weights but it works.
  13. Woodbridge is definitely close enough.
  14. Hey William. I moved from NY to Arlington a year ago and have found myself in the exact same situation. Unfortunately I had to leave my boat in NY so I haven't been able to do a whole lot of fishing down here. I shore fished the Potomac around Gravelly Park one time back in the summer. I haven't done the shore fishing thing in a LONG time so it was pretty frustrating. I also joined a bass club outta MD that fishes small tournaments around here. I'm always down to meet new fishing buddies. I'm hoping to do a little more exploring around the area this year. PM if you wanna chat some more.
  15. I think there's a difference between a nick in the cork and a full ring splitting off from the rest (which is what it looks like to me). If that happened to a cheapo rod, I'd agree with you. Not so much with an Aetos.
  16. Appreciate the info!
  17. Looks like it catches dinks....def not for me:)
  18. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info! How was the flea market anyway? Should I bring a ton of cash? lol
  19. Does anybody know of a good place to get rod guides re-wrapped near the DC metro area? Or somewhat close by. Thanks!
  20. I use a 7'3 Heavy Kistler Magnesium and absolutely LOVE it. It has a nice soft tip that allows me to cast, skip, and walk a frog with ease but enough strength and backbone to wench bass outta the junk. It's also incredibly balanced so I can use it all day and not get tired.
  21. The local Dick's near me has some of the "made for Dick's" SK red eye shads on clearance. $3.97, buy 5 get 5 free. Limited colors.
  22. Best Smallie 6.87lbs.
  23. Anyone have experience with this sucker? I'm sure since it's a Tat it's awesome. Is it the same frame as the original Tat?
  24. It seems like I fish a jig on just about every one of my baitcasting rods but I'd have to say that my favorite is a 7'6 H Kistler Helium, 7.3:1 Zillion TWS, and 20 lb Flouro. This is my go to for 3/4 oz jigs around sparse veg, wood, and rock. If I'm in heavy grass, I'm using my 7'11 H St. Croix Legend Xtreme, 7.2:1 Curado I , and 60lb braid (same size jig or heavier). I also have MH rods, 7' to 7'3, that I have both 16 or 17lb flouro and 40lb braid on. I'll use those for 3/8 to 1/2 oz'ers.
