  3. You may be on to something. Large flies have been used by fly-fishermen for pike and muskie and by salt water anglers for years. BPS has some available, but most fly-fisherman tie their own. White Bass fishermen on the Wolf River (wi.) use big flies on a 3 way river rig (aka. a wolf river rig) with great success. Never know until you try.
  4. We are all creatures of habit. Sometimes we just have to force our selves to try a different technique. When I fish a certain type of structure, I try to have another technique in mind to try. That doesn't always work if your catching fish.

  6. I agree! What it boils down to, is there are no "set" rules. I have been fishing over 50 years and can't believe all the new things I've learned on this forum. It's also helped me remember some techniques from the past.
  7. The point is, it's happening with all species of fish and not just in Ohio or Wisconsin! We all probably can remember a time when we've seen fishermen, who have taken a limit of fish, back fishing the same day. When you see stories like Ohio and Wisconsin, it's hard to comprehend.
  8. We all have preferences, but blind loyalty can cause you to miss out on some great products. When faced with a choice, I will look at a manufacturers track record over just the name.
  9. Rod material and manufacturing technology has certainly come a long way since my 1st fiberglass rod over 50 years ago. The "must have" rod this year will be replaced by another "must have" next year. I myself can't justify paying $400 for a rod. I will wait and spend $100/$150 for a quality rod on sale. Everyone looks at things differently.
  10. MORE SCUMBAGS!! Last Updated: Wednesday, June 9, 2010 5:16 AM CDT DNR cites Milwaukee-area men for gross overfishing. Wisconsin wildlife officials have arrested 13 Milwaukee-area men for catching more than 2,238 fish on the Chippewa flowage. Department of Natural Resources officials say the men were arrested on May 21. Warden Supervisor Rick Rosen declined to comment on the case, saying investigators are still looking into whether other people were involved The fish included crappies and blue gills. DNR officials say wardens needed six hours to count all the fish. The men, who range in age from 34 to 74, face up to $71,280 in total forfeitures and restitution. DNR spokesman Jim Bishop says they were part of a church group.

  13. Welcome aboard. Sounds like the Bait Monkey welcomed you too. ;D
  14. We were fishing Lake Erie and had a great late afternoon smallie bite. The smallies shut off , so we decided to troll for walleye. Well, I wasn't paying attention and my buddie got the end of my line and attached a large coffee cup to it. He hollered "fish on", and the rest was history. I can't describe how that rod bounced and what that cup felt like. I was HAD!! ;D
  15. Makes me want to HUG a fish!

  19. Not just sports, but anything you do can be dangerous if you don't take necessary precaution or use common sense. You can get to much sun at a barbecue. When activists run out of things to be against, they will turn against each other. ;D
  20. I would try a spinning outfit, but keep the length of the rod manageable for her size. If she enjoys fishing, she will appreciate the fact you think she's ready to advance. Kids learn quick.

  22. I always had problems with tangled hooks on Jitterbugs. What I did was cut off original hooks and replaced with split ring and smaller treble. Solved problem.
  23. Thanks again, $23 is more reasonable. I checked every place I could think of and the best I could do was $30.
