Line Choices... Confused!!
Yes Braid IE. 30# braid is 8# diameter equivalent. If your worried about finicky fish than braid with a fluorocarbon leader would be your best bet. No stretch and still low visibility the best of both worlds. Make sure you tie good knots to connect your fluorocarbon leader to your braid though that is crucial! Your young go out and fish don't over think everything too much yet! Just have fun with it.

Line Choices... Confused!!
oh where to start!? Your description of the way you had the swivel rigged with your skinny dipper I did not comprehend. You weren't able to get a good hook set most likely because you were so far away and the mono stretched like a rubber band. A simple fix to this IMO would be to move closer! or use a line with no strech (braid). Copolymer is a line with 2 different components incorporated. ex.fluorocarbon and nylon. Finally If you can afford Sunline than sure why not use it for applications that you want some line stretch. (treble hook baits) Its just way to pricey IMO.

More New Havoc baits have been released
I feel like almost all the "new" baits produced nowadays are knock offs in one way or another. I'm impressed when I actually see and innovative design regardless of if I think it will catch fish or not.

A NEWBIE HERE
How was the fishing at Benbrook? I know its relatively close to their house. I hear lake Granbury had like a massive fish kill so its no good anymore. IDK if there is much truth to it I'm a Va head.

Started tying flies
There is a guy I work with that ties flies. Everytime we check in a deer or a coyote he asks if he can have certain parts of it to use for tying flies.

Fluoro Questions
Flipping heavy timber TBH I'd stick with the PP. Maybe spool up some 10-12# Flouro on one of your finesse setups and see how you like it. Buy a decent line so you don't have a horrid first experience. Good luck and just excrement with it. Its a very useful line for lots of applications.
