  1. Cabelas prodigys are on sale for $69. Very nice rod for that price. IMO Cabelas rods are a good bang for the buck and when they are on sale it is even better.
  2. You could always buy one and try it out cause they have a tag right on the rod that states the rod can be returned within 60 days, no questions asked.
  3. I use a Cabelas prodigy micro casting rod. Its a heavy power 7 footer. Works great and they are on sale right now I believe.
  4. Got out today and was impressed with the platinum. Its a little stiffer and a little faster than the classic XML. Sensitivity wise the platinum is signifigantly(noticably) more sensitive also. The platinum is a nice stick, no doubt. I thought that the classic XML is very nice for its price point. The platinum is more expensive ($199.99 vs. $139.99 retail), but well worth it in my opinion. Also IMO, this rod series will compete with ANYTHING in the sub $200 range. Obviously my time fishing the rod is minimal so these are my initial thoughts.
  5. Only got to make a few casts with the rod today. I have the exact same rod in the regular XML series and plan to do a head to head with it this weekend. I'll be using the same line and lure. Like I said, I have a lot of love for the original XML and I'm curious how they'll compare.
  6. Just picked up a 6'6" med. light spinning rod for smallmouth/ walleye and put a new stradic fj on it. I'm pretty pumped about these new rods w/ k series sic guides and the new resin. I've been a big fan of their XML rods for a few years. I'll be getting out with it tomorrow so I will check back in with a report.
  7. They're doing really good up here also. 20-30 years ago you would be lucky to see one now and then around here. Now there are several in the area.
  8. Braid with a flouro leader. I would use 20# braid (equiv. to 6# mono).
  9. I'd take the 7 to 1. Like mentioned earlier, you can slow down easier than speeding up. Fish sometimes run at the boat and you need to keep up with them. Also, you can bring the lure back to you faster after you worked it through the "sweet spot".
  10. The curado is a little more user friendly IMO.
  11. An addicts worst enemy is fame and fortune. Especially fortune cause it feeds the habit. Whitney was easily one of the best female singers ever.
  12. I have 3 cayennes and I'm very pleased w/ them. Depending on the wind and other variables, I have my brakes on 2 and sometimes 4. I set the spool tension knob so the lure falls from the end of the rod slowly. If I remember correctly, It took me a little bit to get the reel dialed in and for me to get used to it.
  13. I found a used cte200gt for my dad and put some abec 9 bearings in it before sending it to him. That thing would free spool forever.
  14. Tackle Warehouse had the matching Okuma rods on clearence, but they sold out. Now they have the new version of that c3 rod. I have 3 cayennes and love them. Gonna get a new Komodo soon. Okuma currently is making some nice baitcasters.
  15. U of MN Gophers with 2nd year coach Jerry Kill Landed most of the better talent in Minnesotas recruiting class. In the past, most of our high profile recruits left the state. Its a start for a horrible football program.
  16. OKUMA CAYENNE $79.99 free shipping Go to outdoor pro shop, go to the bottom of the page and click on Okuma. This is a excellent reel at retail price let alone half off. After getting my first one I ordered 2 more. This reel has abec 5 bearings, aluminum handle side plate, a very nice smooth drag and palms very easily. My next BC is going to be a Okuma Komodo because of how impressed I am with these little reels.
  17. Apparently Peytons nerve isn't healing as fast as expected. Sources are now saying that his career is indeed over, however it has not been made official.
  18. The Vikings have a lot more holes to fill than QB. Ponder has potential and we need recievers, d-backs, & O-lineman. As far as Peytons injury, I had the exact same surgery close to 20 years ago from a wrestling injury. The fusion in the neck will heal fine, but the question is how much nerve damage was done. If it was small he will recover fine in short time. If the nerve damage is extensive, he might not ever fully heal (nerve wise) and have numbness in the muscles of his arm (which arm depends on where the damage was.)
  19. I used to be obsessed w/ drag pressure ratings and refused to buy Daiwa because of it. That was untill I broke down and bought a cabelas prodigy (basically a daiwa tierra or advantage, depending on who you ask). Then I picked up a zillion. The rated 8.8lbs of drag pressure proved to be plenty and Daiwa has one of the smoothest drags around.
  20. I have the xlt and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. Casts excellent and the drag is VERY smooth. I'm especially impressed with the drag.
  21. People have been ice fishing up here for awhile, but only in portables. After the cold snap we had last week the vehicles and big houses are piling up on the lakes.
  22. I'll have to go the other direction on this one. I personally would pay the extra for the Duckett. However, I believe the veritas is the better value. I like the action on the Ducketts better and I think they are a little more sensitive.
  23. I learned the magic eraser trick on this site last year and I too was amazed at how good it works.
  24. Did you find that in person or on line? That's too funny! As far as the hawk incident, I have a friend in Jefferson City, MO that had some small terrier pups running around his yard and a hawk came down and got 2 of them.
