  1. It doesn't matter to me at all. When I cast 2 handed my second hand naturally grabs the butt of the rod anyway. However, A little less weight and and a slightly slicker look isn't worth one cent more than a full handle.
  2. Amazing fish, nice job
  3. Set the hook like that fish stole your bike..... unless you are fishing a lot of timber ;D

I worked late today and was driving by the pond about 1 hour before sunset today and figured i'd see what I could catch. Pulled a 5lbr, a really fat, short bass. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me since I was in my work van :'(. Luckily one of the other guys fishing had a scale on him and we got a weight quickly and got this baby back in the water fast. I almost went through a bag of Color 912 (Green Pumpkin w/Black & Watermelon w/Black Laminate). wacky rigged lots of bites but I missed a bunch. I really need to start using O-Rings.
  5. Having just been in your position a few months ago(bank fishing/looking for a good all around setup), I would definitely go with a BPS Pro Qualifier combo 6.4:1/MH Fast. I have used power pro braid(50lb) but I just got some spiderwire camo braid(50lb) and IMO it casts better and the alternating colors really help to see my line especially with applications where you have to line watch.
  6. Very interesting info... I love this place
  7. I have to say I am VERY impressed with this reel. I have a Daiwa Viento, Quantum Catalyst PT and Daiwa Rojo and this one blows them away. Casts 50lb spiderwire stealth camo smooth as can be. I think I'll be picking up another MH/7.1 combo before they go off sale.

That's a buzzbait that got nice and busted up when he hit it. I went back this morning and caught another 2-2.5 lbr out of the same spot but nothing worth taking a picture of. I was expecting a better trip out. was pretty cool(for florida) a very slight breeze and overcast but the one fish is all i caught and my friend got skunked.
  9. My PQ(7.1) just showed up today in time for my fish outing tomorrow. I got a Heavy/Fast Bionic Blade to go with it. Love the size, and it seems to be very smooth. The local BPS has the PQ combos on sale for 140 until June 20. Will probably get another if I like this one.
  10. Very cool fish/story. I really need to do some research on where to get into one of those and take a trip down south a few hours

went back out tonight for a few hours and caught this nice chunk. I should have had my girlfriend hold it instead of me but you can compare it to my rod//reel in the pic. I'd say a good 4 lbs but I may be way off on guesstimating fish. I bought a 50lb scale but I don't think it is even close on the smaller weights. Going to take it back and get a 15lb digital scale instead. PS: this was a different pond 100yds away from the other.
  12. If Gary Yamamoto takes over they shoelace business and I have to go back to velcro shoes because I can't afford shoestrings, I'm blaming you! :'(
  13. 4-7 days a week. Sometimes i go out before or after work and if work is slow, I have 4 rods and my tackle box in the back of my van! :-X
  14. I was parked next to a nice looking pond finishing up some paperwork and I saw a constant swirl of many many little fish right in front of me. I really didn't think much of it and another guy pulls up next to me and starts throwing some "pond food" into the water and they go wild. I hop out and start talking to the guy and look down and there are at least 30 bluegill. The water is super clear(for my area) and I can see a lot more fish both ways down the bank. The guy tells me only a few folks fish this pond and most if not all of them catch and release. I figure with all this "bass food" and courteous fishermen there should be some nice bass in here. He confirms this and says he owns the building and I am free to fish if I let my fish go. I only had an hour or 2 to fish but I caught my first Fat Ika fish(2lbr) and a nice fat 4lb(at least) for my first Wacky rigged Senko. I didn't get any pictures but I'll get some this weekend when I can get out to this pond early AM before it gets so hot.
  15. -8" Producto worms(junebug and red shad) -Zoom trick worms -senkos -home-made chatterbaits with skirts and a small 3" grubs or fluke or grub trailers -furbit frog or buzzbaits -spinnerbaits I've done well with all of these
  16. All of my fishing is from the bank. Ponds, small lakes and small phosphate pits. I've caught em on t-rig plastics, lipless, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, topwater, ect... pretty much anything i've tried. Still working on my first jig bass and waiting on my crankbaits to arrive to try those. I'd think anything will work once you find the fish.
  17. I, too, just caught my first jig fish. I thought it was going to be a very nice bass and turned out to be about a 3lb snakehead. I found a pond in a city park absolutely loaded with the things
  18. I got mine in the email and filled it out earlier this evening.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I crushed them out at Tenoroc again this morning and afternoon on home-made Chatterbaits! my first bloody thumb!
  20. have had a bunch of 1lbrs, couple 2s, couple 3s, and a nice 5+.
  21. I was wondering the same thing about my worm and jig setup. Thanks. How do you match up a floro leader with the braid? say I'm using 50lb power pro, am I looking for the diameter equivalent on the leader? or something heavier?
  22. I would have to say 50-75%. I'm just building up my tackle now though. Usually I look for the deals!
  23. Been wanting to really get to know my jigs as well, thanks for all the info
  24. I drive by Spring Lake all the time and wonder how the fishing is there... I was not aware that it was cutoff from the chain at the moment. Several of the City parks in Polk County have nice little fishing ponds in them. Lake Bonny Park in Lakeland and the park right behind the auburndale speedway.
