I personally don't think it matters other than the sound the blade makes. Conventional wisdom says colorado's in a gold finish would be the rule of thumb there, to answer your question. For me, it doesnt matter on blade style. Crawfish roam a lot at night and I've had great success with a jig and chunk trailer....pretty silent. I'll give them anything in a dark colored skirt spinnerbait, to keep on topic. Nickel blades are great on a full moon (brighter skies) and darker colored blades on a new moon (darker skies). Pick for the moon in between. JMHO Keep it simple to start with. Dark blades for low light conditions and bright blades for high light conditions. Streamlined blades (Willow) = less thump and vibration, while wider blades (colorado) = more thump and vibration.

EastTexasBassin, what a great lure you mentioned! Stripers love em up here, so do freshwater bass. Catt is right on. Big Spinnerbaits are making it into striper fishing up here and Luhr Jensens Crippled herrings are awesome for fresh water bassn.

GMAN's DNA Series and Brush jigs (almost positive it's thoses 2 jigs) are very similar. If I'm not mistaken, cadman has something similar to the Paca's as well. Maybe you should PM them both and ask? Both are great guys, IMHO!

I actually tried that on one an didn't like it at all. Now slip some crystal flash in the silicone skirt with a zonker strip trailer, now you're in business. Flashabou under a transluscent silicone front facing skirt, could be an idea. Ahhh crap, now you got me thinking. I'm gonna try that tomorrow. I have some pearl flashabou that needs a home...preferably on a spinnerbait inside a bass' mouth. LOL

I may take the 30 min drive down to watch you do that. Heck, I'll record it for you!

It is addictive. I love to make hybrid bass jigs and spinnerbaits. You just never know what you can come up with, huh?

I'm almost postive that wire baits (spinnerbaits & buzzbaits) and jigs are rated by the amount of lead used to cast the head. Crankbaits, jerkbaits and such are built and rated by the body material and amount of ballast used (internal weighting system). Spinnerbaits and buzzbait will be heavier than their rating with the amount of hardware they use for blades, as well as, the amount of strands for skirt material. Jigs will be the same with the exception of hardware. Crankbaits will be heavier with hardware & hooks, as well as the paint finish.

You can't go wrong with #4's. Even #2 on the belly and #4 rear is a good bet...Just a suggestion, I don't have one.

Good point Nate. Great time for crawfish imitations around creek mouths. I was at a creek mouth the other day and craws were scurrying around like crazy.

Now I'm really jealous. You're killing me birdy... We've had a lot of raw days with rain. Our waters are still really cold, but on Monday I went out for about 2 hours fishing from the bank. I was seeing a lot of bass stacked up next to a steep sun soaked rocky banks near cover...so they are there.

Gret post Grey Wolf! Totally agree. Last year we had flooding waters so bad that some bodies of water I fished at had to be pumped to get the water levels down. It was just after ice out and the flooding rain really warmed the water up driving the fish to flooded brush. I caught a lot of fish just by casting a jig or spinnerbait right on the bank and dropping it down into the water. The strikes came just as the lure hit the water or maybe 1 hop down. High water in early spring will attract bass on the bank near or in cover. Once the water starts to drop, they may abandon the area all together or relate to the next significant break or channel.

Agreed...there's no jig police out there that I'm aware of.

I did the same as jdw174 and culled some "overflow" last year. I was unable to fish a lot in '09 and had forgotten about the stock I bought the winter prior to the season. So I culled all last season until one day when I found myself coming back from work early and said, "what the heck, I'll kill some time and bank fish b4 I go home." On my way I noticed my tackle box was not in my truck and I'm almost at the pond. I'm really a little PO'd at this point b/c I always carry a care packeage with me for such occasions. I dug thru my truck and found a Spit-N-Image that had to have been there for the 10yrs I've owned it along with a bunch of stuff that is, to be honest, would be considered outdated...worked for me...ROFL

I have a friend in that area and I'm almost positive he fishes there. Give me a couple of days to get some 411 for you. His schedule is a bit different from mine, so I'll e-mail him and I'll let you know. I know what you mean about non-res fees, they're getting out of hand in all of New England. I have a friend in ME who wants me to fish with him on weekends when I'm up there. I went to ME's website a couple of months ago and I was floored. I asked "Eric, am I reading that right, ME want $80 for a non-res lic?" While wrighting this post, I looked it up and now it's $64...Still not gonna fish ME....$15 for striper fishing up there works for me.

In post #15 of this thread I mentioned that and left it up to the peeps who want to participate. I have no problems with a New England anglers fishing out of state, only because it would be unfair not being able to post a catch while they are on vacation. Unfortunately, the forums are kind of slow with member participation on weekends, so I think we'll have to wait until they log in and voice their opinions on this one. Good question tho. It's hard to coordinate online like this without have some of these issues fall thru the cracks.

Thanks for joining tritz18. As far as pics, most def, would love to see all the catches. Just don't have any measuring tool in the pic. The last thing we need is a member posting his catch and posting, say, an 18" length and the pic showing 17 3/4" length and then the measurment and weight become in question. My intent was to have this ALL in fun and honest. The last thing we need to have is heated debates on catches and mods locking the thread up. webertime: Looks good to me, as well as one fine bait for sure. It's best to ask and get as much upfront. grandpa1114, just post length and girth. At the top of the page you'll see a "Tools" menu which contains a fish weight calculator. We'll use that for this T. I want to be able to use solid measurements and the weight calculator on this site. You're still fairly new here, please do not take offense to that, but in the "My Trip" forum there was always some members questioning the weight that was posted based on the anglers scale. As a matter of fact, Shane J had some questions about his PB smallie a couple of months ago, if I'm not mistaken. I would rather keep it as simple as possible so we're all on the same playing field. The calculator on this site tends to be on the heavy side, IMHO, so if you decide you want to mesure on your own scale, go right ahead, I'm just telling you that a posted weight without a length and girth measurement will not be counted in your standings. I think that any lure that is marketed by their respective lure companies should be used. I like deaknh's idea of having to be fished weightless. Yum Money Hound, if I'm not mistakened, is the soft plastic version of a spook, correct? Rage Toad, according to Strike Kings website has a video on how to rig and fish it topwater style. I think we just have to do our best with the honor system here. I don't like the idea of swimming a lure on top and coming to a vacancy at a lily pad hotel and dropping the lure down the hole, jigging it a bit and catching a fish, but you can make the arguement for a buzzbait. Ever use a stop & go retrieve on a buzzbait? So for soft plastics that are marketed for topwater use, I say yes. Stop and go retrieves is an accepted practice. Wanderlust, after new fish have been posted, the smallest will be culled out and reflected in the bi-weekly standings. Guys, let's keep this simple and honest. It's not like there's ton at stake here.
