Plus 1 Shad_Master. I'm old school in the respect that once I get that limit I'll go to the jig which always produces a better quality fish for me. Same locations as well as humps or primary points near channels, hopefully near some type of structure or cover.

Oh man, that stinks. I had one of those days last year when I did nothing but walk the dog all day. Blow up after blow up. I didn't completely blank, but I can't tell you how many I missed. A lot. I never had that much problem, but for some reason this day I was. A couple of days later I found this article on top water fishing. The writer in the article said not to pay too much attention when fishing dog walking lures or any topwaters for that matter. I found this kind of interesting, because usually you WANT to pay attention. Basically the whole premise to that statement was to work the lure and wait until you feel the rod load up before setting the hook. Well, I tried it and it works. My hook up ratio increased significantly. I still miss some, but I haven't had a day like that since. The other thing I like to do is to kill the retrieve after a blow up and miss. I find a lot of time the same bass will circle the wagons and come back and blast it again thinking it just injured it's prey. Give it a try.

The split grip took a while to gain popularity. I don't recall exactly when they came out, but they were marketed as a rod with less weight and more sensitivity. I personally don't think they are any more sensitive than a full grip rod nor do I feel a significant reduction in weight. I do think they are a much more comfortable rod to fish with, IMHO. I switched out a few of my full grips to split grips.

I agree A-Jay, the Flyers will not want to go to Boston down 2-0. I see them coming out smokin in game 2 and their fans will be charged up. This series will be nothing like game 1. It's gonna be a great series.

Here in MA, when I was growing up, it was tonic (my father still says that), then it was like Francho said, Coke, now it's more like Rhino said, by brand name. I to this day, call it soda pop. If you're at a restaurant and you don't know if they have coke or pepsi, you just ask for a cola, if that's what you want (pepsi or coke).

I often find myself wondering where certain lures get their "roots" and in this particular case a trap type lure. I found this article on the Bayou Boogie written by Jim Porter and he reference something similar to what your describing. Below is an excerpt from his article: "I once researched the origin of the Bayou Boogie. My old notes and fading recollections reminded me that they were first hand-carved from cedar and redwood and were specifically intended to be imitations of small baitfish. In actuality, the idea for the design came from lures developed for jig fishing through the ice by northern anglers. These lures wiggled side-to-side when jigged up, and the lures' weight made them sink on a slack line. At some point in the evolution of fishing, an innovative angler wondered, that if the lure worked while going up and down, why shouldn't it be equally productive when towed through the water while trolling, or pulled along with a reel? That sounded good, but the lure was not quite designed for those applications. It was not stable and was not controllable. In looking at today's Bayou Boogie and similar modern lures, that early angling innovator's problems and the eventual solutions are obvious. But, stability and holding an underwater running position were the hard nuts to crack." There is no date on that article that I can see, but my guess is, it was written before that Senko type lures came into existence. Based on that statement, they were trying to get a similar lure to track fairly straight, hence the trap type baits. Based on what "was" produced back then, and what the Senko type bait does now, they may have missed the boat, not altogther, but in a sense. That lure back then, pretty much does exactly what you're talking about. I say, you're on to something that I may try in the near future. Let me know how it works. Fish it like a Senko and report back.

My parents have a home on the beach up in Kennebunkport, ME, so I go every weekend and if time allows (I'm in construction) I'll take a week. Their neighbor is an avid fisherman so we try an get out at night to hit the tide for stripers. Usually we hit it 2 hours before and 2 hours after. By August, you can get on them during the day in which my kids will play in the surf while I fish. There's not a lot of public parking, so the beach is never over crowded, except for Labor Day and 4th of July when a lot of families tend to congregate. Biggest striper off the beach was 49". 20's - mid 30's are the norm.

We had the flooding problem last year up here with RI getting clobbered the worst.. It wasn't pretty that's for sure, I wouldn't wish that on anybody. The only one's who smiled were the insurance companies, they got a lot of new premium applications to cover flood insurance.

Good point, backwater4, I have a do-it arky mold I got a long time ago and it's made for Eagle Claw hooks. I never modified the mold to suit another hook, but I keep making them and sharpening the hooks by hand after I fish them a 1 or 2 times. After that they're lost anyway, I've made my share of donations to the lakes.

For me, it would be a gamblers mentality: bet a lot, win a lot = cast a lot, catch a lot...Stay close, it sounds like too much boat time.

My 2 cents: Reservoirs: After the females do their deed in the back of the tributary arms, they will garvitate towards weedy and wood cover and then toward the tributary mouth. They'll use primary and secondary points for a pit stop (rest period) before heading on to their summer haunts which could be humps, ledges or deep points. Natural Lakes: After the females do their deed on gravel flats or shallow sand, they will be found near rocks, stumps, some type of vegetation or under docks. they would then move to the next signifcacant dropoff which could be a weedline, channel or some type of ambush opportunity. Finally to the deep waters.

Street hockey is what made the winters go by. Bilgerat, your about my age, back around high school when the rinks shut down, they used to convert the rinks for street hockey, no skating, but steet hockey on the concrete floor of the rink, and had leagues during the summer. Did you guys have that?
