I'm glad you found some areas of soft water. Hopefully this warming trend will melt some of this snow. I'm finally seeing roof shingles again and the fence along my driveway...LOL The 10' snow bank at the end of my driveway is down to 8'. Should be gone by August...LOL Good luck out there.

If you ever go south of the Mason-Dixon line, you'll quickly find out that college football is bigger than pro. Nothing wrong with that at all. I personally like watching college football.

Last year, 2010, you had to register with the NOAA and no fees were charged. This year you still need to register and I think it's $25.00. I can register thru MA marine fishery and I think it's $10.00 this year (that may have changed from what they were quoting last year) and that allowed me to fish in ME. I don't believe ME will be handling the registration process this year, but from the way I read it you can register thru MA and save yourself $15.00 and still fish in all coastal waters. EDIT: I have to apologize for posting the above information. It appears that the rules have been changed since last summer. MA as of February 11, 2011 has reciprocity agreements wih NH & RI only. The fees are $10.00 and you can use that recreational saltwater permit for the 3 states. Again, my apologies for the confusion.

27.50 resident fishing, fees include a 5.00 wildlands conservation stamp. Add 10.00 for non-resident

What are you trying to make? I started as a fly fisherman and used to tie flies a lot, and that experience has gotten me to tie materials for bass fishing lures. You'll be amazed at what you can do. Glad to see you started tying.

Like most anglers on here have mentioned, color isn't one of my top of priorities when it comes to selecting a lure. What I do look for is visibility in the water and I use the rule of thumb that Grey Wolf mentioned previously as a start. I also keep in mind that certain colors disappear at certain depths. For example: Red and white will disappear in 10' of water in very clear lakes with clear sunny skies and less in stained to muddy waters. So basically, I want the fish to see my lure and attack it because it's presented well. Just my 2 cents.

They all look great B-Hjig. I'm with you, I'm ready to lose some of my builds as well. Unfortunatley we have about 2 feet of snow on our waters...LOL. I guess I better keep building. Good luck with them.

I bought a Spit'n Image years ago (like 2000 or 2001) when XCalibur produced them. It made it to the bottom of my box for years until last spring. It turned out to be one of my top producers last year. Another bait that saw some action was SK's Rocket Shad. I had/have 2 I got a few years back and last year it saw some action with good results. I never would have thought a spinnerbait that small would produce that well.

Just a couple of questions: What's the weight of the rod and length? What do you plan on fishing for (trout, bass, bluegill)? What kind of waters do you plan on fishing in (pond or river)?

Good question. I've always wondered not whether they were conditioned, but how long they were conditioned. On northern lakes, most bass have 2-3 months of ice over to forget about all the lures they saw. I wonder if this is a massive northern "reset." Or is it because the "book" on the northern strain is that they are much more aggressiive than, say, a Florida strain because the northern strain has a smaller feeding window during the year? I do believe they become conditioned to a certain degree when you present a lure the same way until, like Senkosam stated, you change the presentation up. JMHO
