Be careful Nate, fly tying can be very addictive...LOL At least once or twice a year I leave the bass gear at home and grab my 5 weight rod for some pan fishing. The night before I'll tie up a few Royal Wulff's and would have an abosolute blast with the bluegill. For the most part I've been experimenting with hybrid jigs and teaser tail for my topwaters. Keep it up, those look really nice. I have a book at home that will give you all the recipes for the classic flies and was pretty cheap. I'll post the title to this thread if you're interested...Heck I don't mind mailing it out to you if you want to borrow it. Just send a PM. EDIT: I forgot to mention that the book covers all the classic patterns for trout, panfish, bass, steelhead & salmon flies.

We're just starting to ice out, but last year we got flooding conditions around this time and iced out all our waters as well as providing warmer waters to quickly activate the bass to the seasonal pattern you've posted here. We'll see what happens this year.

They all look great Bone-Headjig. I've a lot of success with that first one. As far as strand count, you didn't mention what you have on these, but a higher strand count will slow the ROF. In my opinion, I like a higher strand count to start with. You can always cut the strands if need be to get the jig to fall faster. Good luck with them.

Why not make a few prototype colors and present those and you can tweak as you go?

I only make custom lures for friends, but I design additions to existing homes which in a sense is the same. JF is spot on about digging deep. I try to at least set up 2 initial meetings. The first is a meet and greet, get to know the person and then slide into what the customer is looking for. This initial meeting will only be about a 10-20 minute meeting. I'll then go back and sketch something up and will write down a series of questions or thoughts I have while doing the sketch. This will become the document I use for our next meeting agenda where I'll be able to at least extract 75% of the needs and wants from that customer. The 2 meetings may sound like a prolonged process, but at least you can get a foundation before you start putting in the bells and whistles which will take their ideas and expectations to the next level. Unfortunately, custom doesn't mean generic.

Just went by the Res along Rte 128 in Waltham, and a section on the north end is iced out. Need some more warmer temps and rain to help it along. Today's temps went from 57* to 35* and very windy.

Yeah, it sounds like they retreated. Even if the water stayed warm, the bite would have been tougher because of the muddy water, but they still would be catchable. If you can reach them on the same channels but in deeper water and hopefully near some cover or structure, you may be back in business. JMHO

With the warmer temps this past weekend and steady rain last night I can see grass again. I went by a couple of lakes and ponds in Canton this morning and only saw 1 small section in a small pond that was opening up. Anyone seeing any soft water?

Some props like the skitter prop will dive to about a foot creating a little bubble trail in the water which can be deadly. You can make that same prop walk a little by throwing slack in the line, but, again, like all have said here, let the fish tell you what they want.

I take off the split ring on spinnerbaits and install a snap which allows me to change blades quicker. Other than that, I don't use them.

Bending the prop towards the front will allow you work it slower almost like a popper. Just be carefull tho, I'm sure you know what happens when you keep bending aluminum back & forth.

I personally rig it the second way. I think it's easier for the claws to flip up under water giving the bait a little more action. Like grimlin said there is no right or wrong way tho. Dee Thomas will tell you the 1st way and Denny Brauer will say the second way, so who would you want to argue with? LOL.

Looks great GMAN, the paint job came out very nice. Can't tell from the pic, but that looks like a quad wing blade? You mind posting a side image? With that head and blade config, it looks like it will plane up to the surface very nicely for you. Good luck with it.
