Mine is a 6 yd old factory model that I bought from one of their reps I met at I Cast that year. I’m surprised you said the X-11 is a little lighter. Which honestly got me thinking... I guess I just assumed that the X-10 was lighter just based on their rating. It definitely has the power with a good transition for what you’re looking for it to do. It’s not that sensitive but I can still feel what happening at the end of the line. And it really is surprisingly light for a composite and balances well especially with the older Johnny Morris Sig reel on it which is quite heavy compared to today’s standards. I think you’ll be happy with it. Mike

The only other Phenix rod I have is the X-11 deep diver composite which I don’t need. Even being rated up to 3 oz it fishes square bill’s, jerk baits and chatter baits really well. I’m gonna sell it for another composite because it’s kind of overkill for the waters I fish most. Actually I was thinking about the X-10 Mike

No they don’t. I have 7’2” MH/F M1 that I use for swimming worms and spinners and as my backup for all light to mid cover bottom contact presentations. For that I use the new full cork extra fast Tatula which is my first choice. Mike

I know bass invariably will hit the head but almost all jerk bait strikes I see or had are almost hooked from the rear. Since I don’t use them much at all the logical thought for me anyway, is that a larger rear hook could result in more hook ups. But then the static profile is tail down. Mike

Feller’s First off, I rarely throw a jerk bait. Since moving to Floria some 40 yrs ago 70% of my fishing is done with a plastic of some sort of all shapes and sizes in all conditions. However, I’ve accumulated about dozen or so over years and I want to start to use them again. So excuse this silly question.... I know I want to change out the hooks so my question is.. When you change your hooks do you put the same size back on, or do you go up? Also, after doing a search some guys put one larger size in the front and some put it on the rear. I know the bigger one on either end will cause it to sit either nose down or tail down. So Which do you prefer? A lot of hits seem to be on the rear treble so I’m thinking that’s where the larger size would go, but a wounded or dying fish will mostly sit motionless head down. I just wanted to check. The spawn should be winding down from now until May. If you struggle there’s a small creek that connects to Reedy Lake to the south which usually has a little clearer water this time of year but not by much. There are brush piles in both but you’ll need electronics to find them. Both can be tough but there are some hogs in that lake. If you’re so inclined and have the time, Lake Walk-In-Water, Placid and Grassy are a few others in that general area that can produce nice bags also. Good Luck. Mike

Those are the only 2 that I throw anymore. The magnum speed worm has been my go for years. I usually use a 3/16 and swim over and through scattered grasses of any kind. The magnum is great also on top through a pad field especially when the frog bite dies out. Mike

When I used leaders I always did 6 up to 12 lb line. Anything over I used 4. Mike

I went through 3 combos to find the right fit. Everything I’ve read said was to use a glass or composite rod because it’s “best” to use a rod with a more parabolic action. Below is just a short, quick overall experience. #1...Phenix X series composite crank rod with 12# Sniper. Just felt I couldn’t get a good set. Didn’t lose any fish, but what I did notice is that every hook up really didn’t feel solid ( if you know what I mean) Not really a big deal but... #2...Phenix MH/F M1 with 16# Sniper. Hooks up’s were just the opposite, solid and strong. The thing about this one is that comparing to the two, had more jumpers for some reason. Another interesting point, 2 came off right at the boat. #3...Loomis MH/F GLX 843C MBR with 30 lb braid. This rod has a slower action than the M1 which kinda put it in between the other 2. Never lost a fish. Hits were hard and stronger which I attribute to the braid. I changed the line to 20# Sniper before the next outing and felt no difference. Soooo, I’d rather use flouro instead of braid so that is now the combo I will use for them going forward. Using a hybrid or especially mono wasn’t even a consideration. * Threw in submerged and scattered emergent eel grass and pads. * Used both a Jackhammer and Z Man Project Z both with a Zako trailer. * All casts were 25-30 yds out * Rod was always pointed straight out and at stomach level * All sets were a fairly solid cross body reel set swing. I hear Ya!! Try this....Cut the barb off. That way it’s easier to shake them off without the trauma of being hooked and you still have the thrill when you can’t help yourself. Been There. Mike

If you do, try to shake em off and mark it. Better chance they’ll be there again when you go back. Mike
