Respecting Elderly Fisherman
I had spinal fusion surgery in 2012 when I was 62. At the next BFL after recovering, I drew a boater who had a brand new Bullet. At the meeting the night before he asked me if I wanted the rear seat, I almost screamed Yes! If you know anything about Bullet's they have a very high gunnel and I was a little apprehensive about stepping on from the floating dock. His friend remembered me from a previous BFL who I told I was gonna have the surgery. They both grabbed me under my arms and placed me in the boat. I don't think my boater got over 50mph all day and kept offering to land my fish and wouldn't let me bend over to net his. To this day when I see those two youngsters I give them a hug! Mike

It'll come! Just keep at it. Mike

How would you fish this ?
Wouldn't use that either for bottom hopping through rocks. Just swim it through the water column or along a hard bottom. Theres a lot of meat on that thing. Try it, if nothing after awhile and you know they're there, start trimming. They'll tell you soon enough. Mike

What are your staple colors?
Almost all plastics are June Bug or red/black except for bedding fish which are always white. Traps are chrome or gold with black and orange. Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits are mostly white/chartreuse Frogs are black or green pepper Walking or popping top waters are either bone or green/ chartuese Mike

Hey Shimano fans, I got a question
I'll take your word for it! I stand corrected ?

Hey Shimano fans, I got a question
Reels are one of the most personalized fishing components we buy. Gotta fit right, hold enough line for what we want to do, strong enough drag, balance the combo, size and shape of the handle, ipt, casting distance, smoothness, etc etc Now we gotta decide if we want a computer chip, certain bearing count, where the bearings are, what the frame is made of, overall weight, and yes..there are some who must have a specific color!! To me there is no better reel made by anyone than the old green Curado "E" without all the new technology. Just because today's reels are supposed to be cutting edge, doesn't necessarily make them better. Mike

Notre Dame on fire
I was there in 1966 and still remember how beautiful it was. I hope they'll be able to at least save all the art work. Regardless of what faith you are it's just a Terrible loss. Mike

Is there a barometric pressure you try to stay under?
The only pressure change that effects me and the fish down here is after a cold front pushes through during the winter months. Other than that I don't really worry about it. Mike

Swimbait hook question
I use the Owner keel weighted hooks with the centering pin from 4/0 to 7/0 depending on what I'm throwing. Mike

Tungsten or lead?
My money is on a burr along the edges of the lead. When I used it I learned the hard way to inspect every one and used a hook point to smooth it out Mike

What copolymer line do you use?
Yo Zuri Hybrid is very popular on here and for good reason. Mike

Dedicated Carolina Rig Rod
Didn't know Falcon still made it! Interesting... Mike
-
Dedicated Carolina Rig Rod
If you don't mind looking at an older rod, I suggest the Falcon "Carolina Lizard Dragger". It also doubles as my frog and swim bait rod. Its not made anymore but you may be able to find one on line. Great rod made especially for Carolina rigs. Mike

Bank Fishing Tactics: Fish It Out or Cast and Move
If I can move I'll move, but not until I use up most everything I brought in my go box that makes sense for the water I'm at. Mike

How does age affect tournament performance?
You correct obviously. When I responded I was thinking about the Elite Series. Mike

How does age affect tournament performance?
Couldn't have said it better @Sam!! I'm 69 and considered a professional co angler. I fish Bass Nation and the BFL and have for the last 8 yrs. and Fortunate enough to win a BFL championship at 67. Its getting harder stepping back and forth on the back deck but until I lose what @Sam so eloquently said I'll keep doing it until I can't lift a leg. And No he does not fish tournaments any more. Hasn't for years. Mike

Really messed up this thread. Question on knots and lost bait...
What line are you useing? You're gonna get a lot of different suggestions on here. Personally I only use the Palomar with braided lines regardless of strength. When I punch useing 65# or 80# I snell the knot but really don't need too. If you're useing mono, flouro or a copoly line I suggest you try a different one. There are many good ones that will hold. But no matter what you use be certain it is tied correctly after wetting it throughly before cinching. Mike

Anyone look at you with a weird look like something is wrong when you say you bass fish?
Yep Must be a state side thing! ? Mike

Frogs. Central Florida. When?
While looking in the water, Down here you learn to look for the top of thier head, eyes and the snout sticking out of water. If you do, change direction. If it turns with you...Don't fish there! If you walk the bank, and come across an area a few feet from the water that the brush and grass looks flattened out surrounded by an area that looks untouched, walk the other way as silent as you can. Trust me Mike
