Don't know anything about Kastking, but 20# braid on a spinning combo will do you well for almost all conditions from the bank on a pond

Favorite Time for Numbers of Big Fish
In So Fla The biggest catches down here is Nov to Mar. The farther north you go the window gets narrower but just a bit. But peak all over the state is Dec thru Mar as long as a cold front doesn't move through. The hottest months, say May through Sept you're gonna have to make specific decisions in specific areas to consistently weigh big bags. Numbers are caught year round. Mike

Tournament anglers and attitudes
I fish in more tournaments than most fish for fun, all as a co angler (matter of fact I'm typing this waiting in the bag line) and I can tell you without a doubt that guy is the exception to the rule. Tournament co anglers are unique as we are fishing with strangers for 8 hrs and for the most part at thier mercy where we fish. I've seen more problems with land and dock owners than other fisherman, tournament or local. Sure, boaters will complain under thier breath about a local sitting on "thier spot" the same as they do if another competitor gets there first or won't leave in the time frame they feel they should. And there is no difference in the guy with a 21ft wrapped Ranger with 2 PP, hydro wave, and 4 10" Garmins than there is with the guy in the 30yr old 18ft Carolina Skiff with a 75hp tiller. That guy you encountered is as insecure in his ability to catch fish as he is in finding fish. He was looking for a conceived advantage that to him you took away. I'm sure you made your Dad proud by the way you handled it. But its not even remotely representative of tournament anglers at all. Mike

Mono Or Braid?
Don't use mono anymore for anything, just don't see the need. Spool it up with 20#braid, on a spinning setup it will do you well. Useing a Flouro leader is an option you may like also but depending on the waters you fish, it can be more of a detriment than an advantage. Mike

Please help!
Skipping with a baitcaster is not the easiest thing to do but not the hardest either. I use a 6' 6" with a fairly short handle. The trick is to use an underhand roll cast keeping the bait as low to the water as you can. You can also skip useing the pitching technique of keeping the bait in one hand, bringing the rod tip down, release the bait and gradually raise rod as it swings. Use the lightest weight you can. I lose it with anything over 1/4. It just harder with a heavy weight but it still can be done. Watch your angle's. Bring the rod tip just behind your shoulder and start to roll from there.. Keep the bait about a foot from the tip. Also, make sure your cast control knob is adjusted a little on the tight side to protect against a backlash if you hit the water a little hard, which will happen if you try to force it or have too high of an entry angle. The most important thing to remember is that you want the weight of your bait to pull the line, not the force of your cast. It takes A LOT of practice to become profient, but once you get it down it'll become as easy as skipping a rock across a pond. Just try not to get too discouraged because you will. Good Luck Mike

EWG or flippin hook?
I use the Trokar TK 130 for punching and flipping in heavy cover and have for years. The trick that I have found with them is to NOT tex pose them, you will tear them up for sure. Bring the point up and just into the bottom half of the bait. They are sharp enough that you won't need any added pressure to set the hook regardless of what plastic you use. They get a bad rap because of thier sharpness, but that's exactly the reason why I use them and won't use anything else..... Mike

Pick Your Frog!
Ya know, you got me thinking, I don't think I've ever caught a fish on a popping frog...Ever! Isn't that nuts!! I've caught hundreds of fish on poppers of all makes, styles and colors. But not on a popping frog for some crazy reason. If I don't walk it or use a steady retrieve I get nothing. Darnest thing Mike

Is a Heavy power XF action to much for pitching
I use the same spec rod with 65# braid for flipping and pitching also. You're good Mike

Best casting braid for hollow bodied frogs
Ditto I use a 5 yr old PQ and a Carolina rig specific rod and can launch a Scum frog longer than I'll ever need. OP I know what you're asking, the simplest answer is a high carrier line of your choice, but imho it's not necessary. Mike
