Red Colored Lures - Are They Really That Effective?
Welcome! ! No, there is no secret color that will catch fish everywhere. I wish there were..What works for me in certain conditions can be the worst thing you can throw in yours. Now, that being said there are many baits and presentations that can be considered universal. As Darren and Turtle said, you have to experiment useing different colors, actions, sizes, presentations etc that will increase your odds of success based on your local waters. As far as color...That is the last thing I consider when what I'm throwing doesn't work. I'll change location, speed, size etc. first, unless the fish keep short stricking. Changing color then can and most times will help. But that's Me. I don't put a lot of stock in the red hook thing either. There are a lot of excellent fisherman on this board and many pros also who swear by it. Some say to put them on the front, some say put it on the back, who's to say who's right? Again it comes down to the man himself in what he throws where and has confidence in. Now, all that being said I won't throw a sq bill without any orange or red on the belly...Why? Because in the waters I fish the most it's a proven producer for me when I throw one. Good Luck and keep your line wet. That is the only way you will learn to be successful. Mike

okuma tcs rod
Clayton, Thanks for the review. I was thinking about getting another Punch rod as I can't seem to keep the micro guides on the Quantum Smoke H/Xf rod I currently use. They keep coming lose for some reason and I'm getting tired of having to keep either replacing them or securing them back on. Anyway, I was considering that Okuma but am a little hesitate because of its acton. I know there are a lot of folks who advise useing a more parabolic rod for punching, and I know the reasons why, but I still can't pull the trigger on one. My question to you...Have you allways used a punch rod with that action? If not do feel that its slower action IS an advantage. Thanks Mike

picked up a fenwick hmg today
Don't have the HMG. I have an older mh/f Fenwick Techna AV that is my go to bottom contact rod. If that HMG is even close to the Techna, then you sure got something there! Mike

IT'S OFFICAL with pics to follow
Exactlly! The fun part is you can give them what they want, as much as they want, when they want it, and then send them home! When Mama goes nuts all you say is..."Sorry honey, but it's my God given right" Mike

Fishing with kids tips/tricks
What I did when they were little the first or 2nd time out was I gave them each a rod rigged a lot of the ways already memtioned. I moved away from them a little and threw whatever I thought I would catch something, anything, the fastest. When I did I kept my mouth shut, walked over ever so casually to the youngest and handed her the rod. In about 2 seconds her face lit up, she started screaming and jumping around....Did the same with the older one the next time. After that They were asking me to take them fishin...They still do Mike

Jig and Worm
Instead of throwing away your supposedly chewed up, worn out, used up plastic, bite it off and hook it first. You'll be surprised what you might find. Mike
