8:3:1 Baitcaster
Fast reels are great for fishing plastics and jigs. Gets them back quickly. I have two Curado K 8.5:1 and love them.

First time frogger
A lot to frog fishing is where you are throwing it. On the Potomac anyway it is up on the grass bed to off the edge a bit, then back up on to the grass bed.

Most trusted mono or copolymer lines by pros?
The BPS Excel 14lb in green is also a favorite for the same period of time and it is on at least four reels to this day. Another jumbo spool of it on the board also. Great, reasonably priced line. I remember for the longest time when you could buy a spool of it and get 50% off a second spool, but that went away.

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
Glenn, your video emphasizing elbow at your side reminded me that in early 2013 I had my right shoulder completely overhauled and when spring came I was determined to get on the water. I quickly learned that to escape the healing pain of casting I had to discipline myself to keep my elbow tight to my side and depend on the wrist only. It broke some bad habits I had gotten into over the years ago in casting. A painful way to correct myself however.

Most trusted mono or copolymer lines by pros?
I have had BPS 8lb Excel mono on my three spinning reels for 18 years now and it has served me, my grandson and daughter well in fishing the Tidal Potomac. Never saw a need to change and must be why I have a 5000 YD spool hanging over my fishing bench.

Tungsten or Not to Tungsten?
I am lost on the comment above whether pegging a slip sinker depends on if it is lead, or tungsten when pegging a slip sinker is based on the environment into which you are throwing your bait, i.e., heavy grass, brush a pegged sinker, clear bottom unpegged. Just never heard pegging in terms of what a slip sinker is made of,

Tungsten or Not to Tungsten?
I like tungsten because they retain the color no matter how much you beat them up. I use mostly 3/16 when I do use it and keep green pumpkin, black and junebug on hand , although I am sure the fish don't care if it is not color coordinated with the bait, but it looks spiffy.

Casting Weightless Plastics with a Baitcaster
Throwing weightless plastics (no slip sinker) on baitcasting gear is not rocket science. Generally, if the bait weight less than 3/8oz use a 1/8-3/16 slip sinker for trouble free casting. If it is Senko type bait (they weight 3/8oz) you do not need additional weight and can therefore throw them weightless. Assuming the line is in the 10-15lb range. All of my weightless rigs go on 15lb Invizx (.013 dia)

Mono vs. Flouro?
Fishing line preference conversations are like asking how everyone like their coffee in the morning...if any.

Fireline Ultra 8
I gave up Power Pro years ago when It stained my Citica green.

old rod trying to identify
I may be wrong , but it seems Daiwa marketed line through rods 15-20 years ago. I do remember the rods, but never owned one.

Best two rods?
For two baitcasters, a 6'6" MH fast tip and a 7' medium. Any real around the 6.5:1 area. Line depends on your water. Clear recommend any good flouro in 12-15lb, or mono. I am not a braid fan except for frogs.

Always want what you can't have...
Be careful with real modifications for cosmetics or performance. Soon you have paid more for them than you paid for the reel.LOL

Curado k making noise
You talking about noise on the cast, or retrieve. If it is on the cast, the brass drum against which the brakes rub will "squeal" a bit if it is dry. Just remove the cover, dampen a Qtip with oil and rub it around a few times. Don't over apply oil. If it the noise is on the retrieve, your micro drive gear needs a coat of heavy grease and Shimano recommends a grease like their ACT2, which is really drag grease. Light grease on the micro gears may result in a "grinding" noise. Hope this helps.

Anyone else have this problem?
I am Shimano guy, but Daiwa is also a really great quality product and I can't see something like that happening from normal use.

How To Choose Lines
Great video Glenn with so many line questions on here.

Do you ever get used to split grips?
The split grip did seem awkward at first, but as the comment above, I cast two handed and grew to really like the "ball" for my other hand on the end of the handle. Now it is second nature to use them.

How heavy a bait can I throw?
If this will help, I do not have your rod, but I do throw all of the Ploppers on my Carbonlite mediums with no problems, but seem to get more strikes on the two lighter baits as opposed to the 1oz. I use 17lb mono for them. I should add that my logic in using a medium rated for 5/8oz for a 1oz bait is that it lays on top of the water, so pull resistance is nil with no lip as opposed to a diving crankbait. I may be proven wrong as time goes on so shall see. So far it works.

Round vs low profile
Oh, I agree 100% and not promoting one over the other.
-
Round vs low profile
This is a choice based strictly on personal preference. As far as speed, many low profile reels come in pretty fast speeds. My Curado K's are 8.5:1 (36in retrieve) and there are reels faster than that. I have never experienced a fish landing failure because my reel have an 11-12lb drag max. On occasion, big cats have tested this on the Potomac, but not caught by my choice.
-
Shimano experience
I have two K's with no problems yet. The gears do require a very heavy grease to prevent the "grinding" feel and Shimano recommends their ACT 2 drag grease on the micro gears. Both have had a heavy work out so far.

New Sufix Advance?
Just received spools of 12 and 14lb, so we shall see. I will be using both to fish a variety of plastics. Thanks for the comments.

New Sufix Advance?
Anyone tried this new line yet and have comments.

Buying Rods & Reels
My reels are various Shimano over the years and with the exception of three rods, the rest are Med and MH Carbonlites 6'6" and 7', all on sale price. They all feel the same to me now,

Transporting rods in a pickup truck
I am fortunate to have a 6' bed on my ranger and boat is stored in the state park secured yard, so everything has to back and forth in the truck. I have always kept the rods and reels with individual covers and they lay in the bed like this X.
