  1. Just curious, what is the average turnaround time on a basic service?
  2. Is this some special washer I need to get from shimano or is it something I could find in a hardware store?
  3. It is interesting you mention that, I was looking at a new shimano sedona and it came with shims so you could customize how the line fills the spool. What would be some advantages of having more line at the top or bottom? Also, what would you use to make the shim?
  4. Would it matter that you are using a snap swivel? I have been using a plain snap, but haven't tried it on spinnerbaits yet.
  5. Does it matter on a spinning reel? I have one extra spool that isn't quite right for the reel and it puts more line on the top of the spool than on the bottom. Is that a problem?
  6. I have noticed this a few times, and I think it my problem was that it piles up more where the knot is. Last time I put the knot in the middle, and it is high in the middle.
  7. Exactly which model are you referring to?
  8. My last pair of glasses cost me $350 and that was on sale!
  9. Free would be nice. I have noticed that not as many spinning reels come with free spools anymore. I checked with Shimano, a new spool for a Citica is around $35. I paid $90 for my last Citica. 30% of the reel doesn't seem like it is worth it.
  10. I like the sound of that. I fish from shore and usually only have few rods, and I change lures a lot. I have felt bad about wasting braid when I retie. Regarding the spinnerbaits, I remember seeing something in a recent magazine about how to use leaders for musky/pike fishing on spinnerbaits. The trick, if I remember correctly, was to place a peice of plastic tubing over the tie to keep the snap on the leader from coming off. Thanks for the advice!
  11. I am in the same boat as the rest of you guys. I my eyes are really bad and can't wear contacts. I usually get frames that come with magnetic sunglasses, but they are usually small and round and A LOT of light gets through the sides. I am glad to hear that the cocoons work well. How do they feel, are they light? I don't want something that feels bulky and uncomfortable. And, I don't mean to sound vain, but how do they look? Do they look cool?
  12. I had a problem once with a cableas brand square bill crank. I was fishing on the back of a boat, cranking the same direction we were moving. The bait kept spiraling through the water and I couldn't figure out why. I put on a bandit 100 and it worked fine. What I think happened is that the boat was making it move to fast. I tried the same troubled bait from shore and it worked fine. Lesson learned: Use the Bandit first next time.
  13. I have a couple of rod slicks and I just roll them up at the bottom to keep them out of the way of the lure. Use a lure wrap on cranks though, those trebles will really get tangled in that mesh. That is why I really like the Cabela's rod sleeve with built in hook gaurd, and they are adjustable.
  14. Jigs and spinnerbaits too???
  15. Do you use snaps on all types of lures or just certain types?
  16. Less expensive and spools take up less room!
  17. I have had two Pfluegers around that price range and had nothing but troubles with them.
  18. I agree. Do some research on what you want and then look around for sales. I picked up two reels I have been wanting, one 25% off and the other 50% off. Had I bought them when I had the urge, I would have paid full retail.
  19. I have done most of my fishing in a pond. It really depends on the year, and time of year. In the spring when the water is clean I can use crankbaits and spinnerbaits. As the summer goes on and the weeds and moss get going I turn to texas rigged plastics. I use mostly bright colors because the water is pretty stained. There are rare moments in spring and early summer when it does get pretty clear, then I would use more natural colors.
  20. I have picked up many of the North American Fishing Club books at a used book store where I work. The series has many different volumes for specific fish/techniques.
  21. I have two ideas I was pondering: 1. Why are right handed reels backwards (as opposed to spinning reels). Is there a technical reason manufactures choose to make us switch hands? 2. Why can't baitcasters have interchangeable spools like spinning reels? It would be nice to have another spool to swap out for a different type of line, or if you get a backlash and want to pick it out later and get back to fishing.
  22. Ok wise guys. I suppose I set myself up for that one.
  23. I will try that and see what it does. Thanks for the help.
  24. I don't have a good camera so I will try to explain it better. How about this... the blades are not perfectly flat. The are shapped like a saucer, better yet a frisbee more or less. I would say the side of the frisbee with the writing would be the top. If you look at the side of the spinner bait, the unaltered baits have the writing of the frisbee pointing down towards the weight. When I switched blades I didnt pay attention and ended up pointing the writing of the frisbee towards the top blade. I looked at your pic with all your posts, it appears as though the blades are sitting as if the frisbee had the writing towards the camera. At least that is how it looks based on the light reflection. How nuts do I sound now??? Thanks for your patience.
  25. I have been tweeking some of my spinnerbaits by changing out the smaller colorado blades with different colors. I have been placing the outer face that curves out, pointing up. I just noticed today that my untouched store bought baits have the outer curve facing down. Does it matter?
