  1. My buddy picked up a spinning version, they are pretty sensitive, especially for the price. The baitcasting version has a Fuji ECS reel seat, so yes it is an exposed blank seat. SCII is the type of graphite that St. Croix uses for their entry level rods. As far as I know St. Croix makes all of their blanks in-house. Here is a link to the blank guide on their website: http://www.stcroixrods.com/content/blank_materials_guide
  2. 6'6" to 7' MH Fast action, just a good all purpose setup. I have the Avid 7' MH/F and the Crucial 6'6" MH/F The Avid has more backbone and power than the Crucial. If the Crucial were a St Croix rod, it would be considered more of a Medium power rod. Just something to keep in mind. I use the Avid every time I fish. It is indeed very versatile. These rods are very similar in quality, with the edge going to St Croix because I prefer the grip, plus it's made in the USA 8-) Yeah, that was what I liked about the St. Croix was the lure range, the feel in my hand, and the "handcrafted in the USA" part, not to mention the sensitivity. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with the Avid, just thought it would be nice to see what other anglers thought about the other rods I had in mind.
  3. 6'6" to 7' MH Fast action, just a good all purpose setup. As to what SoFla said, I have played with the Avid alot at bass pro, because that is the one I want, but the others seem to intrigue me too. It was funny, when I was looking at the Crucial, one of the Bass Pro employees tried to sell it to me by saying that, "because Shimano owns G.loomis, it was a G.Loomis blank", I tried to hold the laughter it was almost unbearable, ;D
  4. Well, I have been wanting an Avid series St. Croix for quite some time now, but now I'm also looking at the G.Loomis mag bass GL2 and the Shimano Crucials. What do y'all think?
  5. There are a ton of places around lake Okeechobee also look at Mayaka State park, there are a ton of places in Orlando and Kissimmee, and if you want a more old fashioned secluded place try: http://www.moonriseresort.com/ this place was great, my family went there with some friends and had a great time.
  6. I played with the Caenan a little bit, the gears don't seem to good, but other than that it seemed ok, I still like the Citica the most and now even more since I got to try out a Curado on the water (thanks R.R.). I have also been trying out a REVO SXT with braid on it for the past few couple of days, its ok, but for a $200 reel I should be completely wowed ,right, I just don't see any reel advantages of this reel over my Okuma Cayenne, besides the magnetic brakes and a clicking cast control; not to mention I will probably never use all 24lbs of drag, lol. To top it off it is a little heavy for my tastes. 8-)
  7. LOL STX would spoil him for sure. Why not bring him a Core as well? BPS PQ on sale is a serious value even though I personally prefer lower profile reels. I have used RR's core with upgraded bearings, one word: Amazing
  8. Thanks for the tip and yea it was the cheapest revo, the S, which is $129 I believe. My limit was $119 retail.
  9. It may be crazy, and I know its a good reel, but it still is a little out of the price range, but I put it on there to humor some people and just for a few sh!@s and giggles. I can understand the out of price range part, just not sure about the sh!@s and giggles : LOL, I can understand that, I figured since the poll had been going so long that the REVO added in wouldn't show its true numbers.
  10. It may be crazy, and I know its a good reel, but it still is a little out of the price range, but I put it on there to humor some people and just for a few sh!@s and giggles.
  11. I have a Cabelas Prodigy myself and it actually spends more time on the water than my Quantum Energy. I caught it on sale for $70 instead of the normal price of $100. It's a great reel and worth it at either price. I tried to find it on cabela's site but its gone, did they stop making it? It seems like I just saw it on there a few weeks ago.
  12. My collection isn't big enough to have so many, but what I do have is all different. An Okuma Cayenne, a Daiwa samurai spinning reel, a Daiwa PMA 1500R (yard sale), and an old Zebco 33 Rhino tough. However I should be getting a shimano soon. The way I see it is get what feels good, what looks to be durable and has quality components; the name on the side of it plays a little part in it, but overall its what goes into the reel.
  13. I have both and I prefer the full cork grip, it's just so comfortable and I think it has a nice vintage look to it.
  14. They are great reels and all, but way out of the price range, I was doing my list off of retail prices and $119 was my limit, I did tell my wife that she could get them cheaper than retail though.
  15. My wife is supposedly going to surprise me with a reel off of this list, which one should I persuade her to go for? I was thinking carbonlite or Caenan (on the cheaper side of things) Edit: Hooah, I'm getting a Citica 200E! can't wait
  16. Philsoreel I think we might have started a sh!@storm, hahaha ;D
  17. Me, too! 8-) Yea I usually skin hook, but my father still does the buried hook technique, I just wanted to see what everyone else thought on this philosophical question, lol ;D
  18. Hello all, I have been tumbling this around in my head for a few hours now: What works better when texas rigging a soft plastic bait, burying the hook inside the bait (http://www.bassfishingusa.com/Rigging/rigging1.html) (only good pic i could find for reference) or pushing the hook through the bait and just the tip under the skin (like in these pics: http://www.***.com/riggingTips.cfm) happy fishing, -Britton
  19. IMO, unless you just feel like being different, it's tough to beat Sufix Performance braid. the only thing is, I want a little bit of stretch to compensate for some of my aggressive casts, I have heard that due to the no stretch of most braids violent casts can make the line snap, because they have no shock absorption.
  20. just got my computer back so I can reply now, lol, anyway, I haven't used anything but mono line so far, but I'm interested in using the new 832 or sufix stretch braid on my next reel.
  21. I tried to view your link, but when I got to the site it says the topic doesn't exist. However, here is a link to power pro's company information, don't know if it will help at all. http://www.powerpro.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/power_pro_v2/info/using_powerpro0.html sorry if I'm kinda highjacking your thread Philsoreel
  22. If I remember correctly, Shimano has a patent on PP lines so that others can't copy their line size, components or manufacturing process.
