  1. Please tell me they are going to make it in something smaller than 20??? http://www.sufix.com/usa/fishing_line/832/ from this, it says the line goes down to a 6lb test.
  2. haha, nice, well I guess I'll just have to tie my screamin eagle on and see what happens next time I go fishing
  3. that's fine, any information is better than none, however since you brought it up, would a med. fast be to soft for spinnerbaits?
  4. Yea that was the first thing I did after cleaning it when I got back from fishing, had some suffix elite 14lb, left over from my main baitcaster. thanks for the comment. on another note tho, I'm looking for more in the terms of information on if this would have been a good combo back in the day or if anyone knows anything about the rod and reel themselves.
  5. The Century and Laker were awesome reels, my father still prefers his laker over all, unfortunately somebody else does too and stole it. He never even let me try that reel.
  6. I've been using the Penn angler's pack for everything, works great, nice synthetic grease and oil made by XR-1. However, I do think that the mil-comm angler's products are quite a bit better, especially from my experiences with their weapons oil. check them out: http://www.mil-comm.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=35&Itemid=50 happy fishing, Britton
  7. St. Croix Avid series for sure, but you'll have to "pick your poison" within the series. Just my opinion is a Medium to med-heavy or an ultra-lite setup. I got to use RR's ultra light setup with his avid spinning rod, it was sweet!
  8. before I got into baitcasters, I used and still have a 1989 american made zebco 33 Rhino tough edition that has caught numerous bass including a 5 lb pig largemouth. The only problem I have had was a spring went missing, I easily fixed it with a spring from a newer reel that broke. You can probably find them cheap on ebay. Although I might be putting mine up on the flea market soon!
  9. Hello all, I picked up a rod and reel combo at a yard sale this past weekend for $25. I went fishing with it right after and caught two small bass back to back on the old line without a problem. Anyway, back to the point, the Rod is a 5'6" M Shimano graphite C casting rod and the reel is an old (1980s i believe) Daiwa Magforce PMA 1500R. I cleaned up and lubed the reel its pretty darn smooth the rod is in great shape no scratches or nicks and the guides are smooth. what I wanted to know is it a pretty good combo for general bass fishing and just some general information about the rig. Everything I found on the internet was less than useful, all that I could find was the same reel selling for $22 by itself in a lot worse shape. Thanks guys and gals. Happy fishing, Britton Ps. If it helps with anything the reel is a Japanese made Daiwa, which nowadays are hard to find from my standpoint, unless you wanna shell out 7-800 dollars.
  10. well it can be fished multiple ways, the way Kent showed me is very similar to wacky fishing, only a little faster, you can also try fishing like a swimbait and see where that gets you. good luck!
  11. I actually got them from Kent, but you can pick them up from just about anywhere that sells reputable tackle.
  12. those are some nice fish, you have definitely learned something from here. congrats!
  13. Thanks a lot Big O and to everyone else; when he hit it, he didn't feel that big until I set the hook, thats when he took off and I was like holy S@!T, lol!
  14. PM Sent, by the way where do you go to school, UofM?
  15. I was actually in the slight point in between the two concrete drains, on the chick fil a side. I had another one right after this guy, but he was only about a pound and a half. I caught this one at around 0630. If you'd like, I'm taking a buddy new to fishing, tentatively, on monday morning, you can join us. I'm always looking for new friends, especially fishing buddies since my wife doesn't share the same enthusiasm as I do.
  16. To all that get a chance to go fishing with Kent, please do, the new things he introduced me to definitely work. Kent thanks to you introducing me to the rage tails and how to work them, I caught this most likely personal best at the little pond behind the Chik-fil-a on Germantown rd. It had to have been at least 6+ in weight and boy was it a beauty. By the way I wear a size 13 and that thing could have eaten my foot, lol ;D Caught on a 7" Rage Tail Anaconda Update: according to the Bass Resource, bass weight calculator, my fish came in at 9.1 lbs which is most definitely a personal best, beating out my last, which was around 6 lbs.
  17. Thanks a lot for the help RW, I'm now looking at Avids I found one that just feels right at Bass Pro, its a 6'6" MHF, plus it has the lifetime warranty. Any thoughts?
  18. I've been using Sufix Elite in 14 lb. test and it has worked for everything I've put on it; from soft plastics to crankbaits. It's pretty tough stuff and if your looking for tougher, there is the siege. Check it out and see what you think. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewsufixelite.html P.S. they also make a performance braid, if thats what your looking for.
  19. I'll keep on the lookout for one, I've been scouting. The link you posted was for topwater baits, would that work as well?
  20. That spinning rod you let me try was an avid right?, I really liked it. Today I went to bass pro to test out the two rods I have been looking at, I'm really leaning towards the St. Croix Mojo Bass "Jig and worm" which is a 6'6" MH. I also played with the avid 6'6" MH, to me it seemed very close to the Mojo in weight and sensitivity, one of the main differences was that the Avid has IPC tooling. Any opinions on this new delima? Avid or Mojo? the Mojo was $99 at BPS.
  21. Hi all, I just wanted some opinions on two rods I have been looking at. I have been looking at the Falcon Bucoo in a 6'6" MH and the St. Croix Mojo bass in 6'6" MH and the 7' M. I'm looking to use them for mainly soft plastics (worms and such) with a few spinnerbaits and maybe a lucky craft or two. What are your thoughts? P.S. I'm also open to suggestions, as long as they are in the same price range ($100)
  22. http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/CTGY/Fishing-Reel-Bearings?gclid=CMO79dH_7KMCFa1d7AodO2cW1g check this place out, they have a bit of everything and you can upgrade your bearings to the performance level you want.
  23. pff , the camera on that phone is worlds better than the one on mine lol. lol, I had to downsize the pictures so that they could be uploaded by the forum. ;D
  24. here is some info about the reels: http://www.***.com/Okuma_Cayenne_Casting_Reel/descpage-OCCR.html http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast09okumabaitcasters.html http://www.okumafishing.com/category/46444/Low_Profile
  25. Here are some pics I took with my cell phone, It's the only camera I have.
