  1. Sideways pit boss or Menace, swimming fluke, Zman Turbo Crawz, or 2/3 of a stick worm
  2. Great job Gavin! Those are some hard pulling fish for sure! Just wait until he hooks into a big one, that'll really take him for a ride
  3. Part of a stick worm is one of my favorite finesse jig trailers. Doesn't do much, except catch fish
  4. Some days fish like laydowns, some days pole timber, some days they like the brushy stuff. It's always good to pay attention to details like that when you're trying to put a pattern together. Last time I fished Truman Lake in Missouri they were all in the cedars. Didn't matter how good a laydown or tree looked, if it wasn't a cedar there weren't going to be any fish there, at least none that would bite.
  5. We tagged some fish with twist ties through the bottom jaw in a private lake once. I managed to catch the same bass 3 times in one summer. Once in 2' of water on the south end of the lake, once suspended 8' down over 12' of water at midlake, and once in 5' of water off the north end of the lake.
  6. Had a Zebco 33 jerked into the lake by a carp. They were eating mulberries dropping into the lake so I put a couple on a small baitholder hook and flipped it out. Turned around to take a leak, heard a clunk, turned around to see the rod airborne. Wasn't worth enough to even try to recover it. I've knocked a couple overboard but always been able to retrieve them.
  7. Nice looking old rig. I haven't fished either but heard they're both very tough. I've considered trying Blue Springs but keep going to Jacomo instead. Jacomo has been tough during the daylight hours to even get a bite but gets much better once it gets dark.
  8. We pair up boaters with non boaters almost ever time. If we set up a Thursday nighter type circuit it would mainly be smaller lakes so it wouldn't take much to fish them.
  9. For anyone that is interested in meeting up about the fall get togethers or discussing the possibility of a week night tournament series, we'll be meeting at Johnny's BBQ in Olathe next Thursday at 6
  10. I pour my own either a 3/32 or 1/8 if it's deeper or windy. If it's too windy to feel an 1/8oz then it's probably too windy to fish it effectively anyways. I do the 3/32 with a #2 the most but can go up to a 1/0, I just feel it knocks down on some of the very subtle action you're trying to get with the Ned. Also starting to play with a weedless jighead I just started pouring for them, should be really good in lakes with a few too many limbs and stuff to fish an open hook.
  11. Probably as close as I've ever come to falling in the lake from a boat, and I have no idea how it even happened. All I remember is it involved a wiggle wart and being very proud of myself for just a moment until I started falling.
  12. Come on over! I don't hunt them, but they walk by my stand in flocks like this about every day. Lots of big toms that roam around in smaller groups, big, beard dragging toms.
  13. I can't find any info on Indian Creek Outfitters? Just curious what part of the state it was in so maybe I could give you an idea what to expect.
  14. Clay Dyer, a truly amazing individual. Anytime you feel like you have it rough or life has dealt you an unfair hand, just look him up. We should all strive to be as positive as that man is
  15. There's a couple different lakes within an easy days drive you can catch them from. Every muskie I've ever caught was from Missouri Never been lucky enough to get one to eat a swimmer though and they don't get nearly as big as they do where SB is at. I'm sure that's a hoot getting them on the big baits like that
  16. A lot stripers are holding deep enough this time of year that you'll probably need a downrigger to reach them. If you can find some bait holding higher in the water or some moving water you might get one to bite though.
  17. I have success with white anytime the bass are really on a shad bite. I only own black and white buzzbaits minus one homemade one with a translucent skirt I save for very clear water.
  18. The pointers will outfish other jerkbaits a majority of the time in the lakes around here in my experience.
  19. Use it to your advantage. Cast to the left of a target and run the bait into it during the retrieve. I love doing that to follow an emergent weed edge, shoreline, or dock edge.
  20. Catfish are much more predatory than they'll probably ever be given credit for. They don't have great eyesight, which makes tracking moving baits a little more difficult. They are however, extremely sensitive to vibration and smells which is probably why they're so often caught on baits with strong, continuous vibrations (like your inline spinner), or baits with scents added (like plastic baits or jigs). I've caught catfish up to 40lbs on lures and have even fished for them on purpose with artificials. Trolling crankbaits for catfish has a small cult following in some of the lakes here in the midwest and produces some monster flathead and blues. The Gulp lineup of plastic baits is probably one of the best catfish catching lures I've ever used. There's days fishing a bladed jig that I seem to catch more channel cats than bass. I've even caught several on a buzzbait and one on a hollow bodied frog.
  21. With all the controversy with the young lady that posted her safari pictures on the internet, this article brings up an excellent point, don't be ashamed of what we are, hunters and killers. Not for the joy of killing just to kill, but for the immersion into the process, for the feeling of satisfaction of knowing where you food comes from and what goes into bringing it from the field to the table. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/i-kill-animals/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=WOS%2BDaily&utm_campaign=WOS_newsletter_7.16%20-%20wos%20main%20suppress%20FL%20%26%20OH&utm_content=Final
  22. Good to know you learned something from going fishing with me all those times
  23. Melvern was terrible last time I fished it. I caught more good fish at Perry in 3 hours on the 4th of July out of just the marina than I did all day at Melvern on a weekday.
  24. They love a rattle trap at Hazel Creek I love that lake, wish it was about half the drive. We fished it about this time last year and did really well, caught several muskies too. And I've never seen you catch anything but drum and catfish out of Perry anyways. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/41660-for-us-kc-area-guys-fishing-reports/page-56#entry1136019
  25. Heard about several baits I'm super excited about. The Zman popping minnow is an awesome concept. Really excited about the KVD 8.0 squarebill and Arashi wakebait. YUM has a good looking new beaver style bait. Why do I have all this extra weight on my shoulders all the sudden?
