Kayak people. How many rods do you bring?
I usually bring 8. I've got 6 tubes on the side of my crate and 2 back facing flush mounts on the yak, plus the one forward facing I use to hold the rod while rigging or unhooking fish.

Favorite color spinner bait
White with either gold or copper blades. I've got probably over 75 spinnerbaits in my boat and I'd bet over 60 of them are white or chartreuse and white, just different blade combinations.

Z Man ElaZtech?
I've got some Strike King 3X lizards that I use whenever I have to fish a C-rig. I don't think I have any in the boat, but I have them. That's just my level of hatred for fishing a C-rig I guess.

Too early for lipless?
Saw a lot of this on Saturday.

Time to go!
Just put some fresh InvisX on the kayak jig and cranking rods this morning. First online tourny of the year starts tomorrow.

Swinging jig head long shank hook
I pour my own with a 7/0 monster worm hook for big worms.

tackle monkey got me - Berkley Beaver Wake Bait
I got one of the wake versions and 100% plan on catching fish with it. A bass isn't smart enough to look and realize it's supposed to look like a beaver. At best, maybe they think it's a rat.

Do you need a trailer with a spinner bait?
No you don't and I often don't use one but when I do, it's usually either a split tail trailer or a paddle tail.

I love jig fishing.
Jigs are my favorite baits to fish. If you're snagging in cover a lot, check out either the Trashmaster jig, or something like a Slither rig if you want a super weedless version of a jig.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Rained on me basically all day Saturday and the wind blew pretty good, but I wanted to get some practice fishing from my kayak in less than favorable conditions to get ready for tournament season, wish granted. Caught over 40 fish but never could get a big one, biggest was right at 18". Jerkbaits, traps, bladed jig, spinnerbait, jig, and first frog fish of the year even. Water temps were 50-51.8.

State Record Smallmouth/Largemouth Hybrid Bass Caught, Potential World Record
I caught a bass from Table Rock several years ago that I thought looked like a LMB/SMB hybrid at the time but no way of being sure. I've caught a few meanmouths from Table Rock and one from Stockton though. Always cool to catch one.

Warm weather but cold fishing
That's what Ned refers to as "Kansas Clear", when it's clear enough you can see the head of the trolling motor in the water, that's about the best water clarity you can ask for IMO. All good baits have been suggested. I like jerkbaits in white/bone, gold if it's cloudy, clown if you want something a little brighter. Traps in red craw colors or gold are good. Spinnerbaits with Colorado or Indiana blades, I keep color selection simple with spinnerbaits and fish some combination of white/chartreuse. Bladed jigs in a variety of colors, lately it's been the fire craw color. Your water temps are almost exactly what I'm seeing here. It was 50-51.8 Saturday, this picture was from Saturday. Came out of some dead grass in about 1.5' of water and blasted the frog like the 2 others I missed did.

$75-$100 spinning reel
One of the finest moments for my first gen of Revros ? I was in a multispecies kayak tournament that every species of fish I could catch counted, total overall length won one division, most species won the other. This guy was worth his length in dollar bills.

$75-$100 spinning reel
I've been using the Daiwa Revros reels for a few years now and really been impressed with them. They've beaten out the Pflueger President as the best bargain priced spinning reel in my lineup and have been replacing them as the old blue reels have been dying off. I've got a Daiwa Eliminator that I like a lot too if you want something a little more refined.

Major Boat Fail By A Pro (Aaron Britt)- video back up
Drives his boat like my BIL, it's either off, or the pedals to the floor. Only one way to go and that's directly to the destination in a straight line, no working around shorelines to go with the waves or a more favorable direction, no we're slamming full speed into these suckers and shortening our spines a few inches.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Yep, that's a rock bass for sure. I can tell because of the way it is. This is a warmouth. Always a cool little bonus catch.

Lil Man jig
Looks great! Put a TRD on the back and they're fish catching machines.

Brush hog style lures?
Big Bite Baits offers their version in big packs, which is very appealing to me so I can buy a bait once and not have to worry about running out for a good while. I've had very good success with them. I wish they came in solid black like the Zoom Brush Hog though. A full size solid black Brush Hog is one of my big fish baits during the heat of the summer.

Berkley gulp?
I like the minnows but that's it. They're a pain because they're expensive, fragile, and they dry out.
-
Do you fish any Dardevle spoons?
Not the Daredevil but I do fish a similar one. The Johnson Sprite spoon is a regular casting spoon that I keep in the boat and use when fish on schooling on shad. Plain silver or gold both work. I like them because I can fire long cast to reach schools that pop up out of reach of other baits.

Moderate success...
Those first few bites of the year in cold water always feel great, even when they're nothing really special.
