  1. If you caught them from one stream, you shouldn't move them to another to use as bait. That's one of the ways that invasive species are getting spread around different waterways. A lot of states have laws against it, we do here in Kansas.
  2. Yeah, I've done it a few times. Prior knowledge of a lake can help a lot. Sometimes a guy just has a game plan, executes it, and it works. I wouldn't, under any circumstances, point fingers at someone and call them a cheater, unless I had a mountain of evidence to prove it was true. My friend and I got accused of cheating in the last tournament I fished, by someone who apparently didn't understand how the tournaments worked. I recorded our whole day on the water though, and he'd watched it along with everyone else that fished against us, and somehow he was the only person who had an issue (I'm thinking because he blanked and had TM issues that day), and resorted to calling us cheaters instead of taking his L. Thing is, integrity is real important in tournaments and when you decide to drag someone's name through the mud, you better have something other than a hunch or hurt feelings, because it'll get you kicked out of the tournaments if you're proven wrong.
  3. I had the same rod delivered to me 3 times in a row with the heavy cardboard tube nearly broken clean in half. Not sure exactly what they were doing to it, but it takes some force to do that to one of those tubes. Twice I got a rod in 2 pieces, the 3rd time it was 3 or 4 pieces it was smashed so badly. I almost just canceled my order but it finally got there in one piece.
  4. The Flicker Shad is even listed as being lighter than the comparative sized Shad Rap too. I fish mine on spinning gear, but it does cast noticeably better than the similar sized shad raps. Maybe the shorter lip doesn't catch the wind as bad.
  5. I fish jerkbaits year round, but when they move shallow in the fall to feed on baitfish they can be extremely effective. I have great luck with smaller jerkbaits in ponds. One of my favorites is a small Yo-Zuri the doesn't run very deep so it works well in the typically shallow water found in most ponds. The smaller size of this one. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Yo-Zuri_3DS_Series_Minnow/descpage-YZDSM.html
  6. They're very popular and were almost impossible to get for a while for a reason. Basically fish them like a jig.
  7. Nice! Never been there but have heard about it and hope to some day make it there. Not for the bass or pike though, actually for the monster bluegills that live in some of the lakes. Not sure if they still do, but they use to give up 2+lb fish every year.
  8. That stinks but it sounds like could have been a lot worse. Hope it goes smooth for you.
  9. I've enjoyed reading your post, especially your weeknight tournament recaps with your son. I hope to be able to be able to do the same with mine some day. I hope a miracle happens for you, if not, know you've made a positive impact in this life and were loved and will be missed by many. Take care O.N.
  10. So were the Chiefs sleeping last week? They've looked like a different team all 3 weeks now. Tonight was impressive.
  11. Was it muddy or cloudy? It was almost kind of chalky looking Saturday. I could see all the tiny particles suspended in the water that were cutting down visibility, which is what had me thinking it was starting to turn.
  12. Never heard of it. I like Stren High Impact though. Pretty similar to Big Game.
  13. I'll never buy another 5 speed trolling motor again. I'd go with the Maxxum if it was the same thrust just to have the variable speed.
  14. Pretty much what some of them are designed to do, like the Dark Sleeper.
  15. Same. Toss in dragging on a swing head also.
  16. I'd guess you're dealing with panfish or very small bass. They like to grab the tail of a trick worm and run off with it before they spit it out.
  17. This is from a month or so ago on our family camping trip, but my dad just sent it to me. Caught on a 4" grub on an 1/8oz jighead, 10lb Seaguar Smackdown Flame Green with and 8lb Seaguar AbrasX leader on a ML rod. It was a good 15-20 minute fight that I thought was going to end early when I had a guy trolling cranks that I was sure was going to troll right across where I was fighting him and snag my lines. Seemed like he was coming through where I was no matter what but finally called off the dogs at the last minute.
  18. The Storm Arashi Wake is a good wake bait and the new Strike King 2.5 Wake is a good one also.
  19. Not sure exactly. That's been 15 years ago. Can't remember if I lost them, gave them away, or what happened.
  20. Discontinued a long time ago.
  21. #1 food sources change and what is most available doesn't necessarily represent the #1 food source. A soft rayed shiner is much easier to catch and digest than a craw, which is why baitfish like shad, herring, and trout are so sought after by bass. Digestion takes energy, so the more difficult something is to break down the less energy the fish gets for it's effort.
  22. I was there Saturday morning with my oldest son. That's what I was thinking looking at the lake. Water temps were low 70's and lots of suspended particles clouding the water. Bite was pretty slow, even when I let him dropshot live night crawlers.
  23. If it has a lead head, I'm probably going to be making it.
  24. I really wish I still had some Subwarts. They were a killer little bait.
