  1. I've never caught a smallie on a Hudd but I've had them hit them before, just never had one hook up. I prefer big glides or topwaters for smallies.
  2. Welcome!
  3. Anybody seen this thing? I wasn't sure how it would work at first but after seeing it in action it looks like it would be a really effective bait. Who hasn't had a fish blast a popper or just follow it to the boat after giving up on a retrieve and cranking it back in? Seems like this might be a great way to get those fish to commit when they're just following or not quite willing to break the surface to eat a bait, or maybe the bait taking off all the sudden triggers a reaction when they think it's making a run for it. I'm thinking it's one I'm going to have to give a try myself.
  4. I thread it on
  5. I use a stick worm for a trailer fairly often, usually about 4" on a finesse jig.
  6. That's what I was getting at with them feeling like they weigh more. Put a 1/2oz tungsten in your palm and then a 1/2oz lead, the tungsten feels heavier because of it's density.
  7. I have a 5.0 for Hudds and slow moving soft baits, then a 6.2 and a 6.4 I use for everything else.
  8. A lot of variables go into choosing the right setup. What type of water are you fishing? If there's current you'll need something to handle heavier weights and the additional strain while fighting a fish. What is your average and what is your top end sized fish? What species of catfish are primarily going to be targeting? What type of bait and rigs are you going to be fishing? I have everything from 7' MH Ugly Stick Lites I use for lake channels, to 8' XXH with a Penn 309 I use for big flatheads, to a 12' surf rod with a 90 Okuma baitfeeder that I use for big blues on the Missouri and Kansas rivers. It's just like bass fishing, have to suit your gear to the task at hand.
  9. I had both, the Cerros is still going but the Lew's was KIA. It was very loud and sticky towards the end of it's life. Cerros is still functioning perfectly.
  10. Caught my first WP fish of the year yesterday. A fat smallmouth at a power plant lake. Only bite I had on it unfortunately.
  11. One of the only Arashi baits that I like.
  12. I call it "counting rocks". Drag it slow enough that I can feel every little thing on the bottom.
  13. So a 1/2oz tungsten weight weighs more than 1/2oz lead weight? This reminds me of the old question "Which weighs more? A ton of bricks or a ton of feathers?"
  14. I bought one on a frog buying binge last week. The hooks on the one I got feel nice and sticky. I'll give it a shot, should work good for skipping under docks were there's lots of gills.
  15. I'm a big fan of goby colors with purple or gold flakes in them.
  16. Really an incredible fish. How long did it take for you to realize it was a bass? I've caught a ton of drum off that bank, that's what I would have been thinking the whole way. Good to hear she's back in the lake, looks like the ol gal was about to pop.
  17. Really surprised KVD never got on a jerkbait bite for smallmouth. They probably just didn't show it but it didn't even seem like he fished it much. I was just positive it was only a matter of time before he figured that out and ran away with it. It felt like everyone except KVD had a shot at winning at one point or another, made it really exciting. Congrats to Ike for keeping it together and making the right adjustments to close out the deal.
  18. Our lakes don't pattern well, lot of junk fishing goes on. Makes it so 10-15 rods is pretty much the norm. Plus, a lot of lakes I fish are small so I'll go from the deep, clearer water near the dam, to the shallow muddy water at the lower ends in a single day and need a little bit of everything. It's not unusual to catch fish on nearly every rod on the deck either.
  19. Great looking fish! Must have been something going on this weekend. There was a new lake record and near state record caught at the lake near me this weekend and a giant over 9 caught at an Ozark lake yesterday as well.
  20. Got my first Whopper Plopper smallie of the year this morning, only bite I got on it.
