  1. Congrats! I had a Ned rig first today as well that was quite the surprise.
  2. I miss Harry and Charlie, stump jumper and rattle trap.
  3. I like to rig them sideways so the tail is vertical instead of horizontal (moves side to side during the retrieve like a swimming fish tail).
  4. 30lb braid is usually 8-10lb diameter and pretty manageable, you'll be fine.
  5. I had a plastic/rubber piece fly off on the way home from the lake a while back and I'm going to put the replacement on. It's very similar material to a rubber floor mat for a car, maybe a little stiffer. The spot where the old one was is painted and there's a little residue left but I got it pretty cleaned off. Should I do anything to try to clean it up better or should it be good cleaned and dried well? Should I do any prep before I attach and what adhesive should I use? I have some spray adhesive that is really strong (3m I believe?), that I was planning on using but I want something that is going to last and not harm the boat finish or eat the plastic. It's the black, textured looking part on the back deck of my boat right next to the motor. I can get closer pictures if needed.
  6. Nice, I'd be buying one of those if they're NIB. Always wanted one, but the ones I find now are either way overpriced or way more beat up than I'm willing to deal with.
  7. That's odd. Like I said, maybe mine do it and I just don't notice but that sounds like something pretty significant that would be very noticeable. Mine are all supertuned though, maybe that made a difference. The old B's were and still are, one of the best workhorses out there. I still have 5 and recently acquired a very nice 100B that I was almost as excited about as I was my 70XG Curado. I regret every one of my B's that I've sold.
  8. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "rough under load"? Was it grinding or something? I have 3 or 4 E7s and 1 E5 and none of them are anything I'd consider rough while fighting a fish. Maybe it's something I've never paid attention to or noticed though. I agree on the I series though. If someone wanted to trade me my used E's for new I's I'd be down for that in a heartbeat.
  9. Scanlon would be a good addition to your lower bucket. He's done well there before and is pretty local since he's from Kansas and guides down in that area (LOZ).
  10. Most wheel weights aren't good lead anymore. They make decent sinkers, but if you're making anything that has small parts like collars or barbs, they're worthless. Plus, if you paint them and try to bake them at the same temps as good lead it will occasionally melt and slide around the hook on you.
  11. I have it in my boat. I used double sided tape and it's held great so far. Only issue I've had is your hooks will rust if you put them back still wet. Other than that, it's been a great space saver.
  12. San Diego Jam, plenty of saliva, tighten it slowly and smoothly.
  13. Man, I got to get on some of those redfish! Never caught one and it looks like a blast!
  14. Drop it straight down next to or into a tree and hold it steady for several seconds before shaking it lightly. A lot of times they'll whack it while it's just sitting there. It's good to use a lightwire hook because you're going to snag up a lot and the light hook will allow you to straighten it and get your jig back. You can also fish them under bobbers and either let them ride the waves to impart the action, or give them short twitches and let the jig swing under the bobber.
  15. I've been doing really well on the oxblood/red flake. I'll bet money that Morning Dawn is going to be a productive color if I ever remember to pick some up!
  16. Keep trying. I've seen lots of guys get their baits replaced plus some from Strike King.
  17. Mike Wurm Jim Bitter-Not really an odd name, but some of you guys know why it's so fitting for what happened to him.
  18. Crappie can be really aggressive when they're in the right mood. I had 21 keeper crappie fishing for bass one day with jerkbaits and a popper believe it or not. Big crappie love a jerkbait hanging in their face. Ned rigs and Keitechs catch a lot of my summer time and fall crappie. Bladed jigs have accounted for my biggest crappie of the year the last few years in a row, along with some big ones on spinnerbaits. I saw a picture on FB a day or two ago with a guy that had caught a crappie on a 6" Hudd. It's not always the big ones that do it either, that's a 6XD that little fella whacked. 1/2oz brush jig. A little more towards the original question, these 14.5" bookends both ate a 3" power minnow I was swimming on a light jighead.
  19. Sounds like a pretty standard trip out there. Tons and tons of smallies, just not much size. The wipers can be great out there, same with the walleye, just finding bigger ones that can be tough. I use to fish those a lot when we lived in St. George and my grandpa worked there forever until he retired. They're fun little lakes but a long haul for me now. Did you have to do much to check in? Last time they just waved us in.
  20. ML or L spinning rod in the 6' 6" to 7' range with 10lb braid to a 6lb leader with a 1/8oz little cleo Same with a 4lb leader to a micro jig under a bobber
  21. If those are Calcutta 50 B's I'd be all over those things.
  22. The 6' 8" M/F Mojo makes a great jerkbait rod, does that help Anyone complaining about St. Croix rods being tip heavy that owns a St.Croix, please send me a PM and I'll send you the address that you can send them to so you don't have to weighed down by these dead sticks Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough to tell the difference, but I know I catch plenty of fish on my unbalanced, tip heavy rods. I guess the fish are just lucky I don't use good stuff
  23. Roadrunner, Beetle Spin, Roostertail, Mepps, Hula Popper, Jitterbug, Crazy Crawler, Pop R, Rattle Trap, Jelly Worm, Original Rapala, Wee R, lots of classics out there that still catch fish.
