  1. So many different options for spinnerbaits. I fish them from little 3/16oz finesse baits, up to 1oz and use to have some even larger but they're a chore to fish. I stick with mainly natural colors in clear water, brighter colors in stained to dirty water (white, chartreuse, firetiger). Silver blades when it sunny and the water is clear, gold or copper if it's stained or cloudy. Painted blades if it's clear and cloudy sometimes or bright painted blades in extremely muddy water. I've gotten to where I pretty much only fish War Eagle with a few Booyah mixed in for dirty water.
  2. They don't cast well for me. They seem very light for their size. I know they're a popular bait, but they just haven't done much for me and I'm positive I've never caught a smallmouth on one.
  3. I've used the boat slicks onto the current boards and I owned the Ultimate Bunk Boards on my last trailer. Both made unloading easier, but loading can be difficult by yourself because the boat shoots off the trailer like a wet bar of soap once they're wet so you have to keep it under power until the front is hooked. I'm still young and agile enough I could do it, but if I hadn't been able to climb out and back into the boat as well as balance on the trailer while hooking and winching the boat, I don't know if I could have got it back out of the water without getting wet.
  4. Then you'll just run out of line faster Those things don't care if it's 2lb mono or 50lb braid, cut it like a razor blade either way. I have a 300E, I'd hate to have to use that thing for jigs all day. Great swimbait/A-rig reel, way too much for a jig. I have a few E7's, a couple IHG, a 70XHG, and a Supreme XT that I use for jigs. They all get the job done just fine, all a matter of personal preference.
  5. You're giving bass too much credit in it's ability to identify a fish it has never seen before and has no knowledge of. All a bass knows, is that it looks like a smaller fish that it can fit into it's mouth, and that's all that really matters.
  6. Don't you know the Ned Rig only catches dinks?! Good looking fish
  7. I've flown with rods several times and haven't had one broken or damaged yet. Get a good rod tube or build one out of PVC or they will get broken for sure though.
  8. I have had success with ponds by simply removing every bass like you mentioned, only releasing those rare larger fish or fish that just looked extremely healthy. Thing is, that might not be the answer for your pond. Best thing for you to do is get some advice from someone who knows what they're talking about. http://www.bassresource.com/lake-management/
  9. Welcome!
  10. It's made for punching like has been mentioned. I pour and tie my own lighter version that works in place of a jig very well for pitching really heavy cover.
  11. There's a reason I have 5 different jig rods and why when the "you can only have one lure" question comes up, it's always a jig for me. No other lure that produces in more ways in all seasons as a jig.
  12. Can't catch a fish to save my life lately. It could be pretty ugly for us unless you're carrying us.
  13. I wouldn't suggest going above 10# on a spinning reel if you're using mono and you'll probably be best off with 8. If you want to use stronger line you'll be much better off going with braid and adding a leader.
  14. Right now I have a 25 size President but I'm looking to upgrade to something faster. It takes all day to reel a DS up from very deep with that reel. I'd like to get another Supreme XT for it, but I don't like fishing a DS so I don't really want to spend that money on it. Then again, I might like fishing a DS more if I had gear that made it easier to do. The struggle is real.
  15. On top of the line being too heavy, it sounds like you're spool is overfilled if it's just jumping off the reel.
  16. I use pegboards. My garage looks like a very unorganized tackle shop.
  17. From the Okuma website; Helios 7' 6" H MF/F 5oz, 3/8-1.5oz lure, 12-25lb test, 10 guides + tip, 40 ton carbon blank, ALPS Mini guides, Zirconium guide inserts, EVA handles, PAC Bay Minima reel seat Scott Martin Signature Series TCS 7' 6" H MF/F 5.4oz 1/4-1.5oz lure, 14-30lb test, 11 guides + tip, 30 ton carbon blank, ALPS stainless guide frames with aluminum oxide inserts, EVA handles, C-40X carbon reel seat
  18. My thing with this bait, it's basically a topwater frog but with a jitterbug type action. I can't see it having that action if it's contacting vegetation during the retrieve though, so it would need to have enough room to complete it's roll/wobble without hitting weeds. If there's enough room for it to do that without hitting weeds, then there's enough room for a bait with trebles like a regular jitterbug, and I'll take trebles over frog hooks any day if I can. I guess you could use it for weed patches with open holes in the middle, but that's where I like to pause my bait, not reel it through quickly.
  19. Great bunch of fish!
  20. The big fish get less spooky at night, there's reduced pressure and boat traffic at night, it's a different experience. Our daytime temps hit triple digits often most summer days and the humidity is unreal, so night fishing is often the way to go. That's fine with me, because it's a whole lot of fun. Lakes that barely give up a few dinks during the daylight hours are suddenly coughing up studly bass that probably don't move an inch until the sun is behind the horizon. Since you can't see, your other senses heighten. It's a pretty intense experience when you hook up with a big fish at night.
  21. I was told that by a guide on Table Rock after I caught 3 pound largemouth in the spring that had splotches all over. After he said it I thought back to all the others I'd caught. All of the were in colder water months and all of them were from healthy fisheries, so there must be some truth to it.
