  1. Yeah it's a sports and outdoors store like DSG so it has a bit of a limited selection. Their line of baits are great though, and when they clearance stuff they don't mess around.
  2. If you can pop for the extra, I 110% agree with Brian down to the rod model. I have that model Mojo, the Wacky Style, and it is without a doubt one of the most versatile spinning rods I've ever owned.
  3. You don't need anything special to fish chatterbaits. I use a Lew's Speed Spool 6.4:1 and it works great.
  4. It's more brown than anything with red/gold/black flake in the skirt. It's a really good looking bait in person.
  5. White River fingerless fleece gloves from BPS are all I wear all winter long on the water except for when I'm running to a new spot or castnetting shad.
  6. Congrats! Just bought my first kayak this fall and almost instantly fell in love with kayak fishing the first time I used it.
  7. Haters gonna hate, fanboys gonna fan, moderators gonna moderate. LOCKDOWN!!
  8. Are you fishing with spinning or baitcasting gear?
  9. I believe their Extreme line of rods is on sale right now for $65 and are great rods for that price. Their Carbonlite rods are also very nice rods.
  10. The smaller ones I use a #8.
  11. Generally, referring to them swimming straight is in reference to baits that roll, swim on their sides, or blow out, even on a slower retrieve. Most all of my swimbaits I retrieve at a fairly slow pace as I'm trying to emulate a natural swimming speed of a baitfish that isn't aware of any danger or is possibly wounded/dying. So a bait that doesn't swim properly isn't very likely to be effective.
  12. Haven't ever tried those ones but you might check out the H20 lineup from Academy. Great baits and the hooks are serviceable so you can get a great bait that's ready to fish for $3 to $5 and even cheaper at times. Lots of color options and different styles of baits to choose from and I've had success with all of them that I've tried, which is almost all of them.
  13. 68 weedless for me. 68 top hook if I don't have any weedless.
  14. I use #6 Owner ST36's on mine and they suspend just fine.
  15. twitch, twitch, pause, twitch, twitch, pause Vary the intensity of the twitches and lengths of the pauses accordingly until you figure out what the fish want. As a general rule, more aggressive snaps and shorter pauses for warmer water/more aggressive fish, gentle twitches or even slow pulls and long pauses for cold water/inactive fish. The rod is the only thing that should move the bait. I've helped lots of people learn to fish them and one of the main mistakes I see is reeling the bait instead of twitching it with the rod and just using the reel to take up slack during the pause.
  16. Put the 4" Pit Boss on the chatterbait. It should look like this.
  17. Got to love a swimbait bite! I have several of the 6" Savage Gear Line Thrus and they all swim perfect.
  18. I just use whatever I have laying around a lot of the time. Usually just save a spool once there isn't enough line to spool another rod and use that for leader material. Pline C21 makes a great leader material.
  19. I also like that Duo has some kind of off the wall colors to go along with their very realistic or standard colors. I recently picked up a 110SP in Inferno Gill and a 120SP in Midnight Black 2 and I've been happy with both. The black I think just offers a big profile that grabs their attention and the orange Inferno Gill almost turns brown in the water and looks pretty natural. I think that one would probably really be a killer if there were yellow perch around here.
  20. I fish a Ned Rig a lot, enough to have a dedicated rod and reel for it, and I could never imagine trying to fish it on 30lb braid. Even 20lb, which I use on another rod for skipping docks, would be a pain to fish with. 10-15 braid with a lighter leader is going to perform better and still be plenty strong to do anything you need it to do on a ML spinning rod.
  21. Bought a spool of 24lb Gliss to use on my Ned Rig rod about a month ago. After the last month of use, all I can think is, "Why did I wait so long to try this stuff?" Casting distance is amazing, incredibly thin, very similar to braid in a lot of other aspects. Leaders are no problem to tie and I've had no problems with fraying or knots slipping. Only issue is the wind catches it badly but it's the same way with other superlines in the wind. I'll be buying at least one more spool to do another rod with it.
  22. That River Minnow is an awesome color. Caught a bunch on it this fall.
