  1. Depends on the water temp. Right now it's been bladed jigs and squarebills with water temps in the mid to high 50's.
  2. I have an 80lb Maxxum on my 189VLO and can't imagine needing any extra power to move it. Even in our almost constant windy conditions or against current, it's more than enough.
  3. I'll just leave this here.
  4. Cabela's is terrible about doing that. I worked at the one in KC for 5 years and it seemed like every year we were supposed to have some great sale on a discontinued rod or reel but we'd have only a handful of them and didn't allow rain checks so we'd have to deal with all the ticked off customers who didn't get what they came for, it was lots of fun.
  5. Checked last night, not a dang thing.
  6. All their rods go on sale from time to time for up to $20 off.
  7. Agreed, make sure you're buying quality before you buy. Bad thing is, there's no way to be sure that the person you're buying from isn't just telling you they're using a good hook when they're actually using a cheap hook. Eagle Claw's entire lineup has been revamped and I've been thoroughly impressed with them after years of refusing to use them for anything other than crappie or catfish. A 1/4oz head poured on a 2/0 lil nasty (same size I use for tubes) had no problems handling this dude. If they'll handle that, they'll handle any bass you're going to hook.
  8. Haven't ever fished any Daiichi sickles, but their other hooks are good quality. I've had issues with the Matzuo sickle hooks breaking and getting quite a few bad ones in my bulk hook orders though. I've gone through over 3k of the Eagle Claws and so far have broken one, and that was one that had been rigged for over a month in a Zman Zinker and was obviously rusted from the salt in the bait, so not really the hooks fault. I haven't heard from anyone that's used any of my jigheads that's broken one either.
  9. If you're talking straight shank flipping hooks, there's a few things I noticed. 1. Use them with straight braid. I tried them with fluorocarbon and my hookup ratio was terrible. 2. They're flipping hooks. Hookup ratio wasn't very good when I tried using them for casting. 3. When used with braid for flipping, they're great hooks.
  10. This cold weather will probably have the lake on fire if anything. Maybe not for the usual numbers, but I bet the big fish resurface.
  11. I wouldn't want to fish them on that rod. The Little John you might be able to pull off but the 5XD is one of my favorite deep runners and I use that 7' 8" MH to handle them because they're a pretty hard pulling bait.
  12. My Mojo cranking rod is 3 or 4 years old. I'm very pleased with it and the newer version seems to be even nicer than the old ones.
  13. I'll be at work. I'll have more fun there than I did last time I fished Melvern. Probably fish La Cygne Thursday, at least if I get beat down out there it won't be anything out of the ordinary.
  14. I was just joking, I'll probably be chasing bass and wipers at La Cygne Thursday. Melvern beat me down so bad last time I still haven't forgiven it enough to go back.
  15. I'm gonna go sore lip a bunch of fish Thursday for you guys fishing Saturday
  16. I've always been a "Drive a little further for better fishing", kind of guy. Looks like that way of thinking paid off for you as well
  17. Like the lady that called the radio station to complain about the deer crossing signs being located on busy roads instead of on the edges of town so there'd be fewer deer/car accidents.
  18. I use a 7' MH/M St. Croix Pro Glass/E5 for my squarebills 7' MH/M Ethos/5.1 Pro Qual for my mid depth baits 7' 8" St. Croix Mojo "Big Crankster"/Lexa 100 for my deep runners I fish my rattle baits on a 7' M/F/200B Curado Small cranks get thrown on spinning gear.
