  1. Thought I had found my boat. Called the guy and everything sounded good, asked if I could test drive if. He said it's winterized and he doesn't want to have to winterize it again. Who's going to pay 10k for a used boat they've never even ran?
  2. Hmm, I've never used anything other than a plain nail weight for a Neko rig but I'm usually fishing them in shallow water where I don't need/want much weight. I know with the Ned rig the mushroom head sits more flush with the top of the bait, which in theory will reduce snags. I imagine the main reason for using a similar shaped nail weight with the Neko rig would be for the same reasons.
  3. 6' 2" to 7' 10", which would cover every bass rod I own I don't care which one I'm catching them on, as long as I'm catching them.
  4. Those 110+1's are one I was really looking at. I had a white back, clear sides, chartreuse belly 110 I bought at the expo at the Classic a few years ago that was a killer. Unfortunately the bills on those must be about as fragile as an actual 110, or maybe they just don't build them to stand up to the zebs at the Vern.
  5. Yep, already been discussed at length and just a few post down. LOCKDOWN!
  6. Sorry to hear that Goose. Are you sure selling all your gear is something you want to do? Even if I was hurt bad I'd want to hold onto it to have something to look forward to and keep me motivated during the healing process. Not judging or trying to talk you out of doing what you need/want to do.
  7. I've never seen a real preference for a weight style with a Neko rig?? Do you mean a Ned rig?
  8. Where I'm throwing it is going to be a big deciding factor on that one. Normally, 12-15 pound will be fine but in heavier cover you might need to go to 17-20 pound.
  9. I used a 6' light spinning rod and 1000 size reel with 4lb fluorocarbon (normally a trout rig) to pitch small craws and worms to bedding bass on Table Rock in a tournament once, ended up taking 4th place doing it too.
  10. Caught what is likely my last fish of the year not from a power plant lake yesterday (the way La Cygne has been fishing it might still be my last fish of the year ). One of my secret ponds in the middle of the woods. I was hoping it wasn't effected too bad by the rain but it was pretty stained and killed my hopes of getting a jerkbait bite.
  11. Hudds come in other baitfish colors, like hitch
  12. Don't get hung up on the idea of owning a "bass boat". I made that mistake and bought a used Ranger for 4k when I was 16. After months of irritation and getting to use it on nothing but small lakes because the motor never ran, I'd sank close to 2k more in it and ended up selling it for 4,500 to get rid of the headache. Right now I'm fishing out of a 15' johnboat with a deck built on the front and a 15hp tiller. I can't fish the big waters out of it but it gets me off the bank and I'd be willing to bet there were more fish put in it than a lot of the shiny bass boats that I come across.
  13. Welcome!
  14. If he wants some practice baits I have some junk baits I've found you can have, I have no use for them but they could probably be usable again with some TLC. I've got a couple colors of jerkbaits I'd like done on the 110 blanks that I think would be pretty simple. If he wants to try them I'll get the blanks and I'm sure I can put whatever he turns out to good use.
  15. Without a second thought. Bad thing is then I'd have to buy a rod for it too
  16. Was it anything worth saving? I've caught a few rods, but never any worth saving. My dad actually caught 3 rods at once while we were trolling for walleye once, a Zebco 33, Zebco 202, and a cheap Quantum baitcaster on a Shimano Bullwhip rod. I'm guessing someone dropped all their catfish rods in the water since the lake we were on was a popular catfishing lake. He snagged one line and pulled up a ton of line before the first rod. There was a line tangled around that and after a bunch more pulling he got the second rod. Then he did it one more time and had a giant pile of line and 3 combos in the boat. None had been in the water long, I fished with the baitcasting combo for several years after that.
  17. We need to make an auto reply function for every time this question comes up. Mines still the same as it always will be, jig.
  18. I use 20-25lb copolymer for both those baits. A hard cast and backlash with either of those baits (assuming you're talking about swimbaits like a 6" Hudd), will most likely result in a lost bait if you fish braid.
  19. Not sure who is bringing their families and everything but right now I think 15-20. I said 30 when I reserved it in case a bunch showed up.
  20. Finally got my stuff sent out today. Should be a present in someone's mailbox on Thursday
  21. I have only fished Prairie Lee once and we did pretty decent but average size was not great. It did seem to have the right makeup to have a pretty decent bite when it's cold out (fairly clear water, steep drops). Plus the small size makes locating fish much easier (in theory anyways). I guess I should have given it a try, looking at the extended forecast, it'll probably be frozen over before long
  22. We can use them here too, but I've never tried it. Any fish caught legally that is of legal size is okay to use for bait, even bass.
  23. Color makes a huge difference for the trout here at times. I've seen days where two guys can fish side buy side with the exact same spoon and have one be silver and one be gold and one is outfishing the other by a big margin. I don't fish spinners for trout often but when I do I have the best luck on silver, gold, copper, or green (not chartreuse).
