  1. Went out fishing today and caught about 20 trout. Best day so far this year. About half were rainbows, half brookies. Then on the last cast with a golden roostertail, a big one that i usually fish for bass with, i land the beast. About 19 inches and i'd say about 2.5 lb. Probably a once in a life time experience for me.
  2. by spincast i am guessing you mean a close faced reel with the button to cast? ( the only reason i suggest you get a spinning reel instead of a spincasting is because i think spincasting is more suited for live bait, spinning does both bait and lures better IMO) honestly i think you should get a spinning rod/reel combo. Its as easy as a spincast (or easier) and you will not need to upgrade for a while. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4197073&cp=4406646.4413993.4414792.4414799 ^that seems to be a great deal, i have had experience with field and stream fishing reels/rods. I think they are a great value and work wonderfully for the novice/average fisherman. its got a 7' rod for good casting distance and its medium action. its great for almost any technique to learn as a novice. if you dont know how to cast a spinning reel youtube it. very very simple. 50$ 7+1 ball bearing 1/8-3/4 oz rating so you willl be able to fish weightless plastics up to heavy jigs.
  3. I think. I just tried to wipe up some parts to get a little access oil or grease around the tension knob and what do you know it worked. I guess Ken was right, some leaked in. thanks for all the responses.
  4. not a reel many would know about. Its a field and stream verado 601. but i took it all apart and put it back together. all fixed
  5. nope i didnt even get to the tension knob area
  6. a little to the base of the reel handle so it reels smoother
  7. i was taking apart my baitcaster for the first time today to clean it. it was difficult to access some stuff. First i got the reel handle off, then got the face plate off and to the drag. But i had to go somewhere so i put it back together i swear the same way i took it apart. When i got it back together to see if i didnt screw it up it seems as if my tension knob doesnt have as much tension anymore. When i toss my 3/8 oz buzz baits and set it up when i crank the knob to its max it barely stops me from back lashing when it hits the ground. What would you guys do?
  8. i started both about 1 year ago, i actually thought using a baitcaster was more difficult
  9. isnt there some good wild trout down there?
  10. nice, those things are slobs!
  11. glad he was eliminated .....but there are many willing to take his place.....

i like the hornady slugs.....but my .270 loves the good ole' Remington Core-Lokts. I almost exclusively shoot remington ammo out of all my guns because it just shoots so well.
  13. where are you from? (check out this pig i caught the other day. 17" 2.25 lb
  14. great job nice fish. I just bought a couple packs in okochobee color, is that any good?
  15. soon they will be in PA...... i didnt read the article but i hope they killed it. Makes me so angry with people who introduce asian species of fish over here
  16. I think the gear is a small problem. I usually fish with a higher end Abu Spinning reel, when i fish spinning outfits. Recently i picked up a $25 Diawa D-shock series combo for my little brother to get into fishing. I brought it once or twice to see it works, i am actually a fan of it. Even though its cheap, maybe a little less smooth, it still catches me as many fish as my Abu and BC's. With this though, i am just not as afraid to give it some abuse. I dont lose much money say if i dropped it in a river etc. Keep fishing zen
  17. great job! im dieing to go for some smallmouth right now!
  18. well guys what did you think of the second season? half way through the middle i was about to turn it off because george, chris, and joe, were about to vote out jamie, even though he could out shoot them all( at the very beginning it i picked chris or george to win it ) ! but in the end, george redeemed himself with purposely missing cause chris needed the money for his family, well even though i ended up voting for jamie, he won like 6-8 grand in bass pro gift cards!!!! what i would do for that money.... lol what did you guys think about the season?
  19. practice catching bass on UL gear, then you will have a good idea. Thats how i learned.
  20. ah i love fishing slippery rock creek for SM, though i dont know if its close to the college
  21. my dad used to park cars at gold courses and he got permission to fish the ponds. They stalked them with trout and bass. He caught a 7 lb LM
  22. if your fishing streams, learn hot to read the water, find pocket water and you will catch a ton of fish casting your lures into slow water behind big rocks. IMO the best way to fish for trout is on a small mountain stream. get a $30 dollar UL with an abu garcia cardinal UL reel. roostertails, joes flys, small rapalas
  23. senko, brushhog, xrap
  24. Well guys, im looking into uprgrading my reel. Ive been fishing baitcasters for about a year now with my a $100 field and stream combo that has got the job done. But now i want something that is quality and will last. I see most of the guys here use a Abu Garcia Revo or Shimano Curado. Both say they are great reels, if they are almost on the same page of quality and performance should i get the revo? because it is almost 100$ less than the curado, $250 is alot to come up with when your 15, lol. i need a job! ( but that takes away from fishing! ) i am a fan of Abu reels, i love my spinning reel from them! but just some honest opinions on these reels, or maybe other reels that you guys have used!
