  1. @BayBoatFisherman we hadn't considered it when we bought, but think about if they can log the area. We have a place on a dead end road in a small cove with camps/houses on both sides of the road. Well, they clear cut the woods behind the camps across the street. This allowed the crack/meth heads or just low lifes access from the clear cut. I think 4 places were broken into. It may have been while we were at ours, because our permanent resident neighbor was out of town, called me around 230 am saying his alarm went off. I went check it out after I grabbed my pistol, but didn't see anything so went back to the camp. I like being on a deadend with permanent residents.
  2. No, I use plastic faceted beads. Bought around 300 off amazon for cheap. Easier than going to hobby lobby. I also use the pro ticker to protect the knot on the swivel. The beades that come with them are glass. I’ve tried using them, but the 1 oz tungsten shatters them. My report for my last trip wasn’t good for me. Tried just south of blue lake, not realizing how shallow it was going to be, but I was committed. 2 fish and 1 missed. Topwaters. One afternoon my reliable deep water spot produced 8 but nothing big. That was the last time it produced for me. Hit clear creek one morning. Caught 3 at the mouth on yellow magic the 3 more later on a point just south of there on mid-depth crankbaits.
  3. I'm another believer in the Carolina rig. It's always on my deck or in my hand. It's also an easy technique to teach a person new to fishing, especially with the big weight helping them to cast. There's times I also have two rods w/CRs. Headed up this afternoon for a week. A childhood friend will be joining me. She usually comes up a couple times a year. She's become proficient with the CR. Now setting the hook with a ribbit is a different story! Hope to have a good report to share.
  4. Red Rose alumni here! Congrats on the nice fish Blaster.
  5. Happy Easter everyone!
  6. Headed up tomorrow and better half will be coming a few days later. Plan to stay until the following Sunday of the second weekend. Joining a friend for a 2 day tournament out of San Miguel Friday and Saturday. A group of friends will be up Monday thru Friday, so it ought to be some fun fishing, despite the fronts that'll be coming through. Thanks for all the recent reports. Hopefully I can return the favor and add some reports.
  7. Glue some pvc to it and make a white perch structure!
  8. Oh oh, that doesn't sound good. Hope it's an easy fix, like a fuse or something.
  9. Harold Allen and his partner. 28+
  10. Accuweather for Zwolle shows, Fri-53-44 chance of rain, Sat-63-45 rain and drizzle possible, Sun-65-40 cloudy chance of rain. I plan on heading up to the camp tomorrow and possibly wetting a line in the afternoon if I don't have any broken pipes or other issues to deal with. I'm planning to stay until Sunday for that "heatwave"! Amateur Hour, I'll text you and give an update after I get out on the water.
  11. Kinda quiet in here. On another note, be on the look out for fish tagged with a blue colored tag. There is a phone number on the tag for you to call to get a free bait. I saw it on facebook, but I was unable to find it again to get the bait company's name. Maybe Matrix?
  12. I don't think I caught a single fish on the drop shot this time up. I've got 8 lb sunline flouro spooled up and using a 3/16 oz weight. I caught some some small fish on my 16' honey hole on the Carolina rigged fluke plus a few on a 6XD/blue, chartreuse, orange. Caught a few fish on a Zoom Mag II watermelon red magic that I bit a couple inches off. 250KVD 2.5 chartreuse perch fooled some fish. Many of these were with a north wind blowing and trolling motor coming out of the water. Had some more crankbait fish on a 250 MD 6th sense plus an old H20 goldish shad colored crankbait that dove maybe 8'. I didn't chase them hard with the many weather changes and the company I had isn't a die hard!
  13. I can still see the fish I missed a couple pockets south of slaughter. It was like a toilet flushing on my zara spook. Funny how those stick with ya. It has around 4 or 5 points in a small pocket with a lot of sunken brush for white perch and the sabine river is very close by. Good luck
  14. Welcome Amateur. I'm also in San Miguel, very close to where 1215 hits the water. I'm unable to see your pics because the company offshore has me blocked. I also fish Clear Creek, especially out by Patroon bayou. I'm still trying to learn how to find fish on my electronics also. My Lakemaster card isn't too accurate in San Miguel.
  15. Thanks Blaster. Plans changed. Better half didn't want to go for 2-3 days then scamper back to Lafayette. Fish will probably go nuts and I won't be there to participate.
  16. Thanks for the report blaster. If you'd like, I can go feed your pets some ribbits while you're away. ... GPS coordinates can be messaged to me!! LOL, just kidding. Good luck with the deer. Headed up this afternoon. I guess I'll get to fish in the rain for a few days, as long as there's no lightning or big wind.
  17. Did you get your Ultrex installed? If so, how are you liking it? I had one good morning while up there last week. Caught right around 25 in 2.5 hours on a crankbait that dives to around 12'. For a while I was hooking up on every cast, some made it in the boat and some danced and threw the lure. A lot of them were solid 2.5-3.5 lb fish with some 13 inchers thrown in. I hadn't planned to keep any until I got one of the trebles in its gill and was bleeding pretty good, so I kept 5 from 14.5 to 15.75 inches. This was the same general area I caught them last month, a flat with stumps that drops into a creek channel.
  18. Bryan, I love it. It's crazy how the sporlock will hold you in position & you can concentrate on fishing. Put the bow into the wind and get comfortable. I've moved my but/leaning seat to the back deck to fish from there if the wind dictates that position. It's very responsive when using the foot control. When there's no wind, the head will spin around a lot more. It has lost position during slack wind, but I just move back and reapply spotlock. You'll absolutely love it.
  19. Here's my late report from 1.5 weeks ago. Found the bass busting shad along the grass by my boat house. I caught 4 and missed 2 others all on a baby bass ribbit. The biggest was 3lbs. All turned loose to be caught again. Later that morning I caught some deep on a hump with a Carolina rigged fluke and V&M swamp hog. The next day I fished 1215 with my boat positioned over a creek. I just put an Ultrex on, so I was able to spotlock for 3.5 hours catching fish. Caught close to 25 with a 6th sense 300DD, 250MD and the majority on a Carolina rigged fluke. Some fish were on the slopes of the roadbed and some were on the drop into the creek. Most bites with the CR felt like the weight was rolling down the slope, they'd grab it and swim toward me. I also caught a few on a Tx rigged zoom trick worm, watermelon/red magic. The next day I caught 15-20 in the same place, but bow facing south, since the wind had switched. Same lures, just slower action.
  20. I'll definitely keep an eye out for you. The better half and I will be up next week.
  21. Thanks for the report A5. A5, are you closer to 1215 or 191 when you say you are 2 miles from San Miguel park? It's 2 miles from my camp to the launch at SM park. I'm closer to 1215 off Jeff Davis/North Apache trail. I have an older white Bass Cat Cougar, gold bolt w/purple trim. Stop and say hi if you ever see me. I always do some fishing in San Miguel cove from Cozy Point/Rocky Branch toward the main lake. Hope the damage wasn't too bad. I called a lady that looks after camps down my road and she said nothing looked messed up after the bad weather.
  22. Man oh man, y'all were on 'em good! Great day that could've been better, but still, great no doubt.
  23. I didn't fish Tuesday but fished 3 hours in the rain Wednesday. Caught 10, biggest was 3 lbs. broke off on another. Those 2 were in 17'. Caught the others on suspending jerk baits & tx rigged swamp hog jr. Lost another on rattling bait crawfish colored. Spent my time around north Toledo state park. Probably head out after lunch unless I hear thunder.
  24. Thanks for the report Bryan. Good luck mguidroz. Ought to be nice. Funny how mid January we can be in shorts and flip flops. The better half and I are headed up either Monday or Tuesday through the weekend. I saw on FB a 10+ was caught out of Huxley just recently on a jig in 8' of water. I'm thinking I might trailer south and spend a day exploring.
  25. To build a fire & stay warm!
