  1. Id suggest you search Coyote Bait and tackle. They have a huge selection of swimbaits. They also have many of them at huge discounts. If you call and ask for Denise tell her Sean referred you, you may get a special pricing. If you have questions, they are swimbait knowledgeable and can help ya out.
  2. Correct, because there are no definites in fishing. Bass cannot eat if they dont have anything to eat. Bass dont generally like to travel much or very far in cold water to feed. It benefits them to stay with the shad once they bunch up in the winter. In my experience here on the east coast in the winter months, finding bait is key and when you find the bait, you are fishing the higher percentage area. Fair enough. Here in my area I catch better fish that are feeding on craws and trout. Your right, there is usually fish close to bait, but in Jan and Feb here in Nor Cal, the bigger fish are on crawdads and trout. More protein, less work. We are also catching em from 1 to 70ft.

  5. I use the Soron STX for all my spinning needs. If your using braid you will be fine. The 20 is just fine for say up to 8lb fluoro, so maybe some 10lb mono. Being as braid is thinner your good to go. The SYX also comes with a braid spool and a standard spool, both are premium spools.
  6. The moment between the tick and the hook set. Its the unkown, of a new PB, or a small fish.
  7. SeanW replied to BASSclary's topic in Fishing Tackle
You get what ya pay for, no they are not the same.
  8. There are a ton of great jigs for less the $3. I rarely lose my jigs. Usually if ya get over it you can wiggle it out. Search for California Reservoir Lures or Rodstrainer jigs. Both are real good jigs and are reasonably priced. PM me your addy and Ill send ya some jigs, I own over 2000 jigs. Just tell me colors you like.
  9. There is alot of information on winter bass fishing. Its all good info, but there are alot of factors that they rarely include as to why it was effective. Here in California our lake get around the same temps, some just a few deg higher. Looking for bait is not always the answer, its a good start, but its not a definite. I fished today, and the bait meant very little when it came to catching. Why? The fish were not interested in bait I guess. Winter is my favorite time of year, the lake is free of lake lice(jet ski's and wake board boat), the eagles are out fishing, and deer and turkeys are along the shore line. Best of all its jig time. We are through the winter solstice and the days are growing longer. So, some of those bass are eating high protein meals to prepare for their call of duty in a few months. Today and last week the fish were on the sides of main lake points, on or near the transition to deeper water. This is where we caught em. I throw swimbaits down to 45ft and work em up hill at a crawl. Deep diving crank baits also crawled along. If the fish are feeding on a ball of bait a spoon or drop shot can be deadly. One thing to remember, different species are in different phases. Smallies will be ahead of the largies, and the spots are somewhere in between. Winter is a great time to catch a big fish, but ya gotta read your electronics. Pay attention to where fish activity is, suspended, on the bottom, on the bank. Are they active, or sluggish? Knowing how to read your electronics is big. What I really want is deep water close by, real close. Fish a jig, fast, slow, crawl, hop it. Ya gotta experiment. If you know your in a high percentage area, dead sticking can be great.

  12. Its not really top water time here right now, but I most certainly will come febuary. The 7'3 MH is gonna be my frog rod, spooks, buzz baits. The M action 7ft will handle the lighter stuff for me.
  13. Ike and Larry Nixon used em all season this past year. They have been tested, and are tough. A few things I can tell you about Pure Fishing Company(Abu is one of them), they are outstanding. Its virtually a hassle free warranty, you call, they send a new rod and a return postage paid tag. This goes for Abu, Fenwick, All Star, Pflueger, and so on. Its my understanding that the warranty is 3 years. Although Ive heard many claims that there are no reciept required, and they dont so much follow that. They are all about customer service. Not sure how they compare as its been a long time since I fished my Compre. I fished with several today and they are great. I caught several 3lb smallies on the 6'9 ML spinning rod and flipped em into the boat(6lb 100% fluoro). The rod managed em just fine. Just for the record I only fish split grip now, full handle just feels strange.
  14. I always use braid, and I always use a black sharpie to mark up the line. Just use a razor blade and cut a small slit in the sharpie then slip the line in and pull through.
  15. 1) drop shot 2) dart head/shakey head/light texas rig/zappu 3)Im not big on senko on spinning but it fits 4)top water/crank baits/rip baits/senko 5)jigs/texas rigs(brush hogs dead ringers)/toads(horney toads)
  16. I use Gami EWG except for punching, never had a problem hooking fish. I dont use anything smaller then a 3/0, and usually go bigger if I can get away with it.I dont usually throw say a robo worm other then drop shot or shakey head. For something like a dead ringer Ill use a 4/0, brush hogs are 5/0. Sometimes these are the superline model.
  17. Hmmm - the bait monkey says you have a hole in your arsenal... ;D ;D Keep looking at the photo I posted, don't you really want to get a Mann's 30+ and go deep ! Will that Manns 30+ really run that deep? How deep with say 8lb test?
  18. Why do all their reviews sound the same? They are just like anybody else , they have opinions and their opinion doesn't swing any more weight with me than anybody else would , as a matter of fact I put more creedance on the fella's here on BR than them. Thats how I feel to. They may have given a bad review here or there, but the ones Ive read all seem about the same. Id like to hear en say, while its a decent rod, I really dont like it for this purpose.(not referring to anything in particular, just in general).
  19. My thoughts are, like anything else, its is gonna come down to personal preference. Its seems over the years Ive transitioned from that fast and XF to more of a moderate. I prefer to allow the fish to have a bit more time to eat the bait, so a bit more bend in the rod.
  20. True, I like Scotts show also. The difference is that 2 anglers vs 4 anglers in a 30 minute show. Im hoping it gets better.
  21. Yes, it is a team. Not sure if he is still in the army, but I think he is. If not he was in, he mentioned it in the show.
  22. Alright, well it was the first episode. I hope it improves, if not it wont last. There is alot of potential, but the producer did a really bad job. Lets hope that future episodes improve into something good.
  23. Why do all their reviews sound the same?
  24. Cool looking bait, I will order some. But geeze do they have a 3 yr old just dumping flake in it? Take it e ;)asy.
