  1. Not likely now, as it's been confirmed the Cards traded 3 prospects to Oakland for Matt Holliday: http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/commishs-hot-stove/commishs-hot-stove/2009/07/espn-report-cards-getting-closer-on-holliday-trade/
  2. If you find someone to end that experiment, perhaps they'll help us with the Duncan debacle > Hey Tin, did you have a hand in the Duncan trade...???

  4. Best of luck to you GP and get well soon!
  5. The only thing I watched over the two-days of All Star telecasts was the pre-game show last night so that I could see the tribute to Stan Musial. In my opinion MLB absolutely, without question blew it. They had an opportunity to honor one of the greatest players of all time, not to mention one of the greatest gentlemen the game has seen, and what do they do? Cart him out so he can hand the ball to Obama, and then nothing. Some of Mr. Musial's career stats: BA: .331 (led the NL seven times) Hits: 3,630 (4th all time) Doubles: 725 (3rd all time) Triples: 177 (19th all time) HR's: 475 (28th all time) RBI: 1,951 (6th all time) BB's: 1,599 (13th all time) Total Bases: 6,134 (2nd all time) Fielding %: .989 in 2,907 games played 24-time All Star 3-time NL MVP 3-time World Series champion *Missed the 1945 season while serving in the Navy during WWII The "everyday hero's" tribute was very nice and those folks deserved it. But this is the All Star game and MLB couldn't find 2-3 minutes to highlight Mr. Musial's career? What a joke.
  6. No, didn't watch the derby, in fact have never watched it. Not something that's ever interested me. Will probably only watch the introductions tonight just to see Stan the Man, and then turn by attention to my kids. The game itself is a farce, home field for the Series is a joke.
  7. A couple pics from the All-Star FanFest being held in St. Louis, leading up to tomorrow night's All Star game:
  8. I voted for you Paul... and thank you for NOT wearing a bikini.
  9. Oh, THAT David Simms... pretty funny analogy of the best player in baseball. Of course not nearly as funny as the quote purportedly attributed to the great Mordecai 'Three Finger' Brown after the Cubs won the 1908 World Series: "This is just the start. We'll definitely win again next year". But then again, I've always had a strange sense of humor.
  10. Do you mean David Sims the British photographer or David Sims the former editorial director of the O'Reilly Network or David Sims the football player?
  11. Hey GP, if the Brew Crew untuck their shirts as some sort of sign to honor a "hard days work"... why don't they untuck their shirts after a loss? Does it mean they didn't work hard after a loss? I'm just askin'... Up next: Cards-Cubs... let's get it on!!
  12. Another great outing by Wainwright... of course, I think he was just faking.
  13. That's awesome... CONGRATULATIONS!
  14. Hey CJ, I was at that game, too... It was CYC night at the park, all the youth players and their coaches get to walk ("parade") around the field before game time. Got to walk around with my son and daughter (see pics below). As for the game, the ending was awesome, but too many missed chances by a struggling offense, Wainwright deserved the victory. My daughter and son (along with a couple of their friends) in front of the Cardinals dugout: Me with my daughter and son down the right field line, just before leaving the field:
  15. There are a lot of very good players in the game today, but after tonight Albert Pujols is 6 for 7 with the bases loaded this season, with 4 HR's and 20 RBI's. And he broke Stan Musial's club records for most grand slams in a season and a career. You can hate the Cardinals or hate LaRussa, whatever... but what Pujols is doing is something many baseball fans will look back on in amazement that we were able to witness in person. The guy is just freakin' unbelievable.
  16. Assuming these can be verified, this would be a great site to use when developing questions for a Trivia Night.
  17. I wouldn't say it's "forgotten", but I caught On the Waterfront on TCM last weekend. A classic if there ever was one. And sadly, one of the stars of On the Waterfront, Karl Malden, passed away yesterday at age 97. Here's a great scene from one of the all-time great movies:
  18. big time choke Not a choke in my opinion. The US was beaten by the better team, a team who can control the ball and the play as good as or better than any in the world. Yes, it was disappointing we got up 2-0 and couldn't find a way to put the screws to Brazil, but this was no choke. Giving up a 2-0 lead at the half by allowing 3 unanswered goals in the second half = choke. Dan, thanks for clarifying my opinion of the game for me. We'll just agree to disagree and move on. Let's go U.S. in the Gold Cup!
  19. Comedian Fred Travalena (Dean Martin roasts & various games shows, as well as the Vegas/Reno/Atlantic City circuit) died yesterday of cancer at the age of 66.
  20. big time choke Not a choke in my opinion. The US was beaten by the better team, a team who can control the ball and the play as good as or better than any in the world. Yes, it was disappointing we got up 2-0 and couldn't find a way to put the screws to Brazil, but this was no choke.
  21. I would be very surprised if the Cards went after Holiday.
  22. I can still picture the poster of her in the red swimsuit that was hanging in my room as a youngster. Sadly she lost her battle with cancer.
  23. The heat indices around here have been over a hundred the last couple days... It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some people are: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/story/4D8FF85D5D528E1F862575E0000FB244?OpenDocument
  24. Definitely a huge victory for US soccer! Hey RW, is this why you don't like womens golf?...
  25. Been drinking vodka and iced tea for many years, it's called an Ice Pick... at least around here anyway. Some folks like it with a splash of Triple Sec, but I just like it with a lemon wedge, hold the sweetener. It's an oh-so-refreshing drink!
