  1. got out to the local honey hole and did some short flick casts testing out all my smith wicks this is what I found. 2 hooks = sinker 3 hooks = floater ugly yellow purple dotted floater = pike magnet The pike broke my line by the way
  2. this is intresting I always thought you wanted a long rod with alot of back bone for topwater like frogs and such. I have a 6' shimano crucial MF that just sits in the closet I thought it was to short for anything really maybe ill slap a reel on there for all my spooks and top water.
  3. I did just order my Revo Sx and 7'3 veritas I planed on spooling with 50pp. I could always just take my jigs off that and throw some bigger pike baits.
  4. on another note if you have a weightless fluke rigged on a diffrent pole when frog fishing or zara spook and they miss one of them throw that fluke where the swirl or blow up was and dead stick it 99% of the time you will get the fish. thats also where I hook most of the pike lol
  5. what would be a cheap pike set up I have a Abu c4 that I use for catfish but I dont go for catfish that often. so i thought of taking that off the rod and spooling with 50# braid but what about a rod. I dont want to break the bank just want a set up to tag along for the pike bite. All the spots I fish are loaded with giant pike so I figured Why not set up a combo for the toothy guys and buy some big fat lures.
  6. I do the same exept with BC gear I probably caught over 500 fish that way last year just be careful if theres them toothy pike around they snaped half em I threw
  7. Went out to one of the local resivors wit my nephew yesterday figuring we wouldent catch anything due to we couldent take the canoe and were forced to fish the bank. The water was crystal clear temp in the high 30s if I had to guess. I had chalked it up as a no luck day so I decided to figure out what smithwicks floated, sank, suspended. there was no room to cast to many trees so i grab my BPS extreme spinning combo feeling iffy about the line. So im making short flick casts maybe 10ft and testing my smithwicks. I tie on this ugly purple and yellow one and call my nephew over to show him how ugly this lure is flick it out and as were discusing the lure in the water this 30" class pike come out of nowhere and nails the thing. So were flipping out im going "ike" lol screaming my head off and freaking cuz my line is pretty much junk due to being last seasons line. So im fighting this thing get it up to the bank my nephew goes to grab it and SNAP bye bye fishy with a new smithwick rouge lip ring. I think I covered every curse in the book I was so mad. My nephew said it can count because it was the first of the year when normaly we say it has to be hands on. So we leave that spot and go to a 3 acre pond we nicknamed "wal-mart pond" I tie on a big 3/4oz jig and Paca craw trailer start working the bottom slow. I start telling Ryan that theres nothing but grass on the bottom it feels mushy and he goes your getting a hit I had 4 good thumps and just stood there went brain dead forgeting what a bight feels like. So there was my first LMB missed cuz I was sleeping on the job.

  13. Got out with my nephew yesterday for the first time hit lake Ontario and a few local man made lakes with no luck. So we decided to try the rivers for pike and trout and my nephew hook into a nice brown trout on MY lure only fish of the day but still a fish. The pic aint the greatest i still cant figure out this resizing thing.

  21. I felt the same way I don't really think of it as a sacrafice. I do enjoy seeing posts like this and the thanks I get when I'm out in uniform going to or from the armory. Gives me a warm feeling if ya know what I mean. I enlisted 3 years ago cuz all my friends are in. I took flack from my family for going the infantry route when I could do some thing else safer instead I chose the front line dangerous mos. To me its just a job I signed on the line and started doing my part and plan on being a lifer. But on the same side I run into people who are the complete oppisite as you who give thanks and apreciation and actualy despise what we do id like to strangle these people lol. It's the infantry, and the grunts who are the backbone of the service's. Be proud that your doing what you do. Much props to you. 8-) Every one else supports us in the military thats there job. I love the infantry they let me shoot and blow stuff up ;D this weekend we have drill focusing on react to contact while mounted so were gonna rip around the farm land they let us use on some humvees and machine guns but with blanks.

  24. What are some good line to line knots for tieing leaders. I seen one on tv the other week but cant remember for the life of me what it was he said it wasnt a knot at all just a series of wraps. Iv experemented with trying to figure it out on my own and came up with some knots that held pretty good just pulling hard with my hands. What are some of the knots you guys use or would recomend.
  25. yeah iv only looked at the abu reels mostly I usually skip over shimano in the bps catalog exept there spinning gear.
