New for 2009
Didn't Brett Hite win on that rig on the Kissimmee chain a year or two ago? Where do you like to fish that rig (guessing over heavy grass)? I had a lot of lucky with the normal stuff topwater and jigs. I also tried dropshotting and deepcranking a good amount this year and caught some good fish on those two techniques. You are correct. Brett actually won back to back FLW tournaments (I think last year) on that rig. I had success with it over grass, around wood and in open water. It is a phenominal combination. On one trip I was fishing clear water and the fish would come from a long ways away to get it. I have some blast it right at the boat and scare me to death. lol JT Bagwell

Lake Fork 15.69lb bass caught and released
Just another reason to be angry with my wife for not wanting to move to Texas. lol JT Bagwell

New for 2009
What new bait or technique did you use this year that really worked for you? I think my best new bait was actually two old baits made into one. I had a lot of success using a Phenix vibrating jig (chatterbait style jig) with a Yamamoto Swim Senko as a trailer. It was AWESOME! It really had a lot of movement and a very erratic motion to it. GY flappin Hog
I like to fish the Yamamoto Flappin' Hog on a Texas rig and pitch it to holes in the vegetation. Just be patient and build some confidence in the bait. You know if it is being made by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, it is going to catch fish. You just have to believe in its ability. JT Bagwell

When to consider yourself a Pro?
I have argued that same philosophy before too. Let's say my buddy the brain surgeon makes $50,000 a year fishing tournaments. This is better than a lot of Pros, but he really isn't a Pro because he makes 10 times that as a surgeon. I have heard this argued several times over the years. JT Bagwell

7" Senkos
You can try the weedless wacky hooks, but you are still going to get hung up (maybe not as much). I think snags are just the nature of the beast when it come to wacky rigging Senkos. JT Bagwell

Still some very interesting points being made here. JT Bagwell

Hi vis braid? do fish care
As someone stated earlier, unless you are fishing gin clear water it doesn't have a negative impact. In clear water you are going to want to use a Flourocarbon leader. I am a firm believer in Hi-Vis line in stained water. It helps you visually detect the most subtle strikes. This is especially true when fishing a Senko. JT Bagwell

7" Senkos
For wacky rigging I have been using the 2/0 Gamakatsu weedless wacky hook and the 3/0 Daiichi wacky hook. JT Bagwell

BPS drives me nuts!!!
Who do you ask if something is out of stock online? I am not talking about in store purchases or orders. I am strictly talking about online orders. I have ordered from them dozens of times and their service is always slow, but tolerable (about 4-5 days). This time it took 10 and that, in my opinion, is way to slow. JT Bagwell

How do you join the "in crowd?"
I usually get the new baits from Yamamoto before they are available to the public. I have been on their Pro Staff for around 6 years I think. Other than that, I don't know how you would go about get them before everyone else. JT Bagwell

BPS drives me nuts!!!
I was told by the lady at BPS that they do not use UPS. She said they use some division of FedEx (can't remember the name), but I guess FedEx has the freight for a while and then they pass it off to the US Postal Service. The USPS then actually delivers the freight. I am not sure if this is a new practice or not becuase the UPS guy used to deliver all of my BPS shipments. We used to joke about how often he was at my house. JT Bagwell

BPS drives me nuts!!!
I live in Illinois which as everyone knows is a neighboring state to Missouri (home of Bass Pro Shops). Last week I placed an order from them and I still don't have it. Originally the tracking information said it would be here the 18th which I thought was odd. It shipped on the 12th so why would it take so long. Well the 18th came and went and I did not get my package from BPS. Now the tracking information has the 20th listed as the delivery date. 8 days to get to a neighboring state is just ridiculous. So far my stuff has been in Minnesota and Iowa, but it hasn't made it to Illinois yet. Sorry, had to vent. lol JT Bagwell

7" Senkos
Avid, In years past I hadn't noticed any major performance difference between the 5" and the 7". This year however is much different. I don't know if the larger profile is putting out more vibration making it easier to locate in the dirty water (we have had tons of rain this year and most lakes and rivers are dirty). The only thing I have done different is to wacky rig it instead of Texas rig it. JT Bagwell

7" Senkos
Guys, for those that aren't using them yet, I have been catching most of my fish in the last month or so on 7" Yamamoto Senkos. These giant cigar sized baits are deadly right now. I had to laugh Saturday because I caught a 9" Bass on a 7" Senko. Ps: I have been fishing them wacky rigged. JT Bagwell

Hi Guys
I spent over a month down in Arlington, TX and never even got to drive over to Lake Fork. That really sucked. I would see the Lake on the weather map every morning when I watched the news. lol JT Bagwell

Hi Guys
Hi everyone, it has been a while and I just wanted to drop by for a visit. I would also like to hear how the fishing has been in everyone's neck of the woods? I was away from home for half of the summer so I didn't get to fish here as much as usual. Our July was .1 degrees away from tying for the coldest on record. It made the fishing a little tough. if you only can pick one, Which line would you pick?
If I could only choose one line it would be 50 lb test PowerPro. JT Bagwell

Pfluger Summit baitcast reel
They do make the President in a left hand version. I am left handed but I use right handed reels so I never have to switch hands during my cast. JT Bagwell

Triming Jigs
I trim the skirts almost all of the time. I want it to be just about 1/4" longer than the hook. Usually I do not have to trim the weed guard. JT Bagwell

What Trailer?
For swim jigs I love the 5" Yamamoto single tail grub. For flipping and pitching jigs I use the 5" Yamamoto Double tail grub. Or as my 2 year old calls them, Gwubs. JT Bagwell

Pfluger Summit baitcast reel
I have several of the Pflueger Summits and I have never had any negative experiences at all (not even minor ones). My primary use for the Summit is as my main crankbait reel. It really fits nicely in my hand. You can get great casting distance and a super smooth retrieve without dropping major coin on a reel. JT Bagwell
