Full cork or an exposed rear is mainly preference. Having a split grip is seen more as a pro rod since the rear is exposed for sensativity, though sensativity is where you hold your setup. There is a huge difference between the mojo and avid though.

Don't really know your kids, or at least whats said about them outside this thread, but how they fish plays a huge role on what they are using. I really can't see them jumping up to baitcasting until they use and get use to specific techniques with spinning gear. I would recommend the typical ugly stik combo and work away from sit fishing and try a variety of baits first.

I have one Avid MHM that covers almost everything I throw, from shallow to lipless to deep. I seldom think about buying more but how versatile the rod is I don't really need more.

Say what you want. It was built for kids, just because adults take over a posting site which was designed to keep friends up to date on your beer pong score does not make it an adult site, it's for kids.
