Very nice. Went out to Melvern myself today. I got there right up at sun up and the water was glass. Not a breath of wind and not a cloud in the sky. That's the first I had ever seen Melvern lake that. Fishing was really tough in the morning. I tried a variety of baits and the only thing I could seem to get bit on was a wacky rigged senko. And those were all largemouths. Finally about noon the wind picked up to just about perfect for my taste and the sky clouded up a bit and the smallies came out to play. Caught a couple on a square billed crankbait and the rest on a ned rig. Only decent fish of the day was a THICK 16"er that I would love to run into again in a couple years. I thought for sure I had a 4+ on at first. In hindsight I wish I would have taken a pic of it. I ended up leaving around 3:00 because I had to get home for Mothers Day dinner, but wish I could have stayed at least a couple hours longer because it seemed like the fishing was really picking up.

Whether it is doing any good or not I only run, and go out of my way to do so, ethanol free gas in my outboard. Ethanol free gas near you can be found at the sticky at the top of this section.

It is quite the drive up there, but I saw someone recently caught an almost 10 up at Mozingo. I've been up there a couple times and really liked it. Both times the wind blew. I have a feeling it is one of those lakes kind of like Melvern where the wind always seems to blow.

Thanks for the recommendations all. I just got back and ended up staying at Mill Creek Resort. It was just about perfect. Next time I go back down there I will probably stay there again.

I personally have never bought in to the color craze for bass fishing. To me there is only two colors, light and dark. I refuse to buy into the craze that a green pumpkin so and so with red flakes will catch them and the green pumpkin with purple flakes will not.

My dad and I hit up Melvern today as well. I too was going with the sole purpose of trying to get the jerkbait going. Skunked. I fished a couple different jerkbaits the whole day except for a brief moment of discouragement and picked up a ned rig for a few casts. and then it was back to the jerkbait. My dad caught a couple on a jerkbait including his PB smallie. I am 99% sure this fish swatted at my jerkbait and then seconds later hooked up on my dad's. It went 4-03.

The only thing I have ever caught on a spinner bait. It is hard to tell because this was from a camera phone circa 2003ish, but that is hooked through the mouth. Not a snag. I have snagged quite a few others with cranks, jerkbaits, and lipless cranks. ]

I am going to go ahead and call that the Unofficial Lake Record?!?!?!

For whatever it is worth I am pretty sure I am going to install these too. Only complaint I can find is the boat slides off too easy. I don't and refuse to unhook until my boat is in the water anyways.

It doesn't have to be on the water and would definitely like to stay away from Branson or crowds.

I am not sure on the name. Whomever told me about it called it Baldwin City Lake so that is what I know it by, but your description sounds about right. It also seems to kind of be someone's yard.

If you want to make a little drive Baldwin City Lake is a good bank fishing lake or at least it was 5 years ago. There are some decent size fish in there too.

I use Plano 3700s with no dividers. I am kind of liking Traveler2586's method though. I might do that to my "go to" baits.

Well I don't know what the deal was. I took it apart and put it back together and all seems well now. Nothing seemed out of ordinary.

I am trying to fix my dad's reel for him. I can take them apart and put them back together, but as far as knowing what does what or when problems arise I am clueless. The problem is the handle will spin but it won't spin the spool?

He clearly saw me. Just an idiot. He was an older guy. So maybe it is getting near that time to give up his boat. Can only imagine him on the road .... There was no damage. He just grazed me mainly because I was able to stick my foot on his boat and push it away.

Melvern sucked today. I am sick of wind already for 2013. Ended up with 1 in the boat and maybe 4 bites. A side stroy .... I was fishing down a rocky line and this boat came up from behind me a lot faster than I was going. It was clear to me that he was going to go around me. Not something I or just about anyone else would do, but whatever. I am not fishing for money and I don't own the lake. As he was going around me I acknowledged him and thought to myself d**n he is cutting it close ...... and then proceeds to run into my boat. W T F !!!

I worked with progressive back in November of last year. They had an adjuster out in 48 hours. My car was in the shop of my choice by the next week. That was the shops fault. Never paid a dime. Had a fairly comparable rental for the 2 weeks it was in the shop. The repairs ran over budget. They covered them no problem. I was very satisfied with them.

What has this cold blast done to a lake like Fort Scott?
