  1. Smallmouth... one bait... hmmm. I wouldn't always be successful with it, but give me a dark colored 4" curly tail grub and I'd catch my share throughout the season. I'd like to expand the selection to include a lighter colored 4" boot tail grub, assortment of jig heads, a ghost minnow Pointer 75, a sunfish colored Gunfish 95 and a 1/2 oz light colored spinner bait. oe
  2. My Morrum 6.3 - 1 retrieves about the same... not particularly slow. oe
  3. At the end of a long cast, how many inches per handle revolution does it retrieve? oe
  4. The TAC grips that Fenwick came up with seem to be a nice alternative to cork rings. oe
  5. John... Didn't Mitchell have a spit-grip rod that pre-dates the Berkley rod? Why not save the 80.00 and remove the cork yourself? oe
  6. I've had to carefully bring down a gull in flight caught in my topwater line... twice. I'm glad I had a landing net, gulls can be nasty at close range. oe
  7. I met my wife at their cafe the last time we were there. She's not fond of following me around the tackle isles. Does that count? oe
  8. Pretty sure I wouldn't fill a spool with 30lb PP Slick the way Kevin showed. oe
  9. Most strength tests I've read concerning PE lines revealed actual breaking strengths to be nearly double what the stated breaking strength was. Smaller diameter lines have been shown to be harder to see by bass. With these two statements in mind, I fish 10lb test (occasionally 8lb) with spinning gear and haven't encountered any problems with the line being too thin or fragile. oe
  10. You're spending more money on several off-brand jerkbaits than you will on one Pointer that doesn't need to be jury-rigged to suspend and walk correctly. Buy one Pointer and see if you're not impressed. If you like it buy another... you only need a couple to get the job done! oe
  11. Smooooooooooooth out your casting motion oe
  12. and another contribution to the great depository of misinformation floating in cyber-space. oe
  13. It took a couple years for graphite rods to be accepted as well. oe
  14. You bought two baits that you have to buy heavier hooks for to "almost" suspend and it will not provide the action you want???... instead of buying one Pointer that will be perfect out of the package... I don't get it! Spend the money to buy a proven bait. oe
  15. Answer to my question for anyone else interested: Havoc baits are molded in the Berkley manufacturing plant located in beautiful Spirit Lake, Iowa. oe
  16. My experience with NanoFil is much like BlueBasser's... Good line. It has the best slack line feel of any braid I've used, including fused Fireline. I haven't had line breakage issues; I do leave 3/8" - 1/2" tag when tying a knot with the NanoFil. I don't use diameters less than listed 8lb... mostly 10lb. oe
  17. No, I have not found 832 to have better "slack line feel" than other braids. In fact, I think the slippery gore fiber that is woven into the 832 braid encourages the line to loosen up some with use and lessen the slack line feel. I have not had the breaking problems with NanoFil that others have written about. oe
  18. Can anyone tell me if the Berkley Havoc baits are molded in the Spirit Lake plant or the Orient. oe
  19. Broke bass... I'll add my .02 to make your advice twice as valuable. oe
  20. The LC Pointer is one of those baits that you should save your nickels and dimes until you can afford to buy one... it's that good. oe
  21. Flat bottomed coated netting... seldom have a problem with trebles. Of course I fish all of my baits BARBLESS. oe
  22. Watermelon baits I've seen are translucent and I most often swim them in clear water on sunny days. Green Pumpkin baits are opaque and I fish them most often in cloudier water and/or on overcast days and I'll usually choose an opaque color when I intend to drag the bait on the bottom. I have no idea whether the bass care, but this mindset gives me parameters when choosing baits to buy and/or fish. oe
  23. make a balance scale to compare weights oe
