  1. Comments suggesting a spinning rod for this and walking top-water are noted, however, either my technique or choice of line gives me problems with spinning. I snap the line forward very abruptly not moving the bait very far, but then snap the rod tip back equally abruptly throwing slack line on the water as well as on my reel spool. It may be my line choice of 10lb original Fireline, but I end with loose line on the spool and spilling off creating plenty of line knotting issues. Fireline has too many positive traits for me to change lines, but keeping my thumb on a bait casting spool throughout the retrieve process proves more effective for me. oe
  2. So, how do like your Garmin LiveScope... I appreciate your input comparing the Rerange baits with 110's and Staysee 90s oe
  3. I have a XD Pointer 78... not very impressed with it (or I should say my success with it). Thanks to all for opinions. oe
  4. Allen... your observation about the available space between hook eye and offset has been my biggest complaint about these jig heads as well. I purchase the 1/4oz heads and file the lead from the back side of the head to arrive at whatever weight I want. Way more work than is reasonable, but fills time during winter evenings. If you develop a worm nose head that leaves more room in front of the offset for bait, please inform us. I assume you are/can mold on a 3/0 bronze hook. oe
  5. By spring I'm going to buy a new jerkbait that will dive 9 - 10'. I'm considering a deep Rerange, Pointer 100dd, deep KVD or possibly stretch for a Vision 110+1. I'd like to read user opinions from this board about these, or any other baits in this class. What I choose will share space in my box with Staysee 90s so you don't need to add that bait to my list. Thanks in advance for serving up your opinions. oe
  6. manually... AND... pull the line slightly to tighten it on the spool oe
  7. FINALLY!... Haven't carried anything else for about 1/2 dozen years. 95 & 115. Love the fact I can pop it occasionally during the retrieve if that helps the bite. oe
  8. I believe you are the first in this thread to equate light line as cheap line.
  9. This is America, we over-engineer everything... argggg...
  10. Note to any new purchasers of Brewer jig heads: Historically the actual jig head weights have been lighter than the advertised head weights. oe
  11. So now the loons aren't dying from lead shot, but after eating a belly full of tungsten shot they're too heavy to fly...
  12. Here's an idea... use the knot that works for you. oe
  13. I'll worry about changing plastic colors when I notice baitfish changing colors... oe
  14. Drop shot... Develop a pattern to tie on a 1/0, 2X long, down-turned eye hook. You will need to very lightly weight the hook shank to counter balance the buoyancy of the dressing materials. oe
  15. Without any doubt a large smallmouth or walleye will provide me with the most satisfaction, however, a good sized freshwater drum can elevate my excitement level a few notches... oe
  16. In my local lakes this holds true during July and August evenings when the thermocline is most abrupt. I catch many smallmouth while jigging for walleye where the thermocline meets long tapering points. These spots aren't as productive during daytime. I think the walleye/smallmouth suspend at thermocline depth over deeper water during daytime and follow the thermocline to the points at evening time to feed. Every lake is unique, as my lakes are deeper than your's and the thermocline sets up at 33' depth. I don't catch largemouth on this pattern, so take my experience with appropriate grains of salt for your bass population. oe
  17. I going to feel awkward searching 2nd hand clothing stores for suitable women's boas... oe
  18. I don't think hair/hare is any less effective today, but other baits can be just as effective and easier to acquire. Most hair jigs aren't mass produced making them less available to the majority of anglers. Those of us that don't want to be without them tie the jigs ourselves. Charlie Brewer and Ned Kehde popularized techniques that are not much different than hair jigging and usually just as effective. Throw slider fishing, Ned rig fishing and hair jigging together and I think you have a lot of anglers finessing their way to good bass catches (not to mention most other fresh water fish). oe
  19. In my opinion, the carbon disc drag is the only upgrade worthy of more money between the Supreme & Supreme XT... oe
  20. The plumes are being "plucked" before they are fully developed. I sort through a lot of plumes to find a few full webby ones I want to tie with. oe
  21. Excuse me if I'm not reading your post correctly... your original post referred to the Supreme spinning reel which is not the same as a Supreme XT spinning reel. The XT model has a better drag than the non-XT model and costs $50 more than the Supreme. oe
  22. I fish Supremes and will tell you the Supreme XT carbon disc drag is worth the upgrade oe
  23. 5.?:1 to 6.?:1? will retrieve my spinnerbait 21" - 25" per handle revolution... perfect. oe
  24. In my waters catching northern pike means moving to a different location not changing presentations... oe
  25. doesn't seem logical that a spiral wrapped rod would give you any advantage in a tip down presentation or any presentation that you don't want a tight drag on oe
