  1. crickhopper is a good bait for bluegill and bass... my old PB was caught on a crickhopper that had caught a bluegill. bass attacked the bluegill, jumped through the air like superman, i set the the hook which was in the bluegills mouth, watched the bluegill go down the basses throat in midair and my crickhopper snagged the bass in its mouth. i was glad to take the tradeoff from 4 inch bluegill to 4lb bass...
  2. 10lb braid is too small for a baitcaster if you ask me....
  3. really i think it varies. ive fished places where i tear them up with artificials but they wouldnt touch a live minnow. then ive fished places where it was vice versa. but honestly, i dont care how i catch them, live bait or artificial, i just love to catch fish. i dont feel more accomplished one way or the other. the fish still has to want your bait and you still have to set the hook and fight it and land it. to me the accomplishment is catching a fish, not how i caught it...
  4. for me its because its so relaxing to fish. its a form of mental therapy. when im fishing all thats wrong in the world disappears for a little while. i have no worries for that bit of time. also, if i was just standing around talking for an hour or so, my back will start to hurt. but if i am standing at a pond for an hour or so fishing i never have any back pain.
  5. about the fired or not hired thing, i think you would have to question the integrity of the person who posted said comment or picture, not the employer or potential employer. also, employers have done background checks for years, its nothing new, facebook is just another thing they can check. so why is it a problem now and not a problem pre-facebook? also, there is a big difference between facebook and a forum. i wont go into a ton of details naming differences, most are pretty obvious though. facebook is another way for bassresource to expand its brand and interact with fishermen around the web. some people may like one format over the other, its personal preference, i dont see why BR having a facebook would get some people up in arms over it, you dont have to follow it if you dont want to... i think youre missing the point here. people want to complain FB isnt private and all your info is there for people to see or get. well even without FB, all your info is available somewhere. the same things can happen on other sites or even if youre not online. someone who has never been online or even used a computer can have their info compromised by people with malicious intent. j francho hit the nail on the head with his post i think. he said it best with "Your paranoia is unfounded". if youre scared of info someone might get about you on facebook, you might as well just cancel your internet and use your computer for target practice, smash your cellphone, cancel your credit cards and close all bank accounts, sell your house and move into the remote forests and live off the grid, of course people can still find info on you if they really want to...so yeah you might as well just off yourself too...my point is, a hacker can pick a random name in a phonebook and get all the info they want about you from just that... (im not telling anyone to off themselves, just using it as a figure of speech to get my point across)
  6. honestly though, i could care less. i dont post anything i dont want seen by others, its that simple. only you control what you post and put out there, facebook has no control over that, they dont force you to post pictures and comments and like things, etc...thats all on the user. this is why i dont get the extreme sense of paranoia some people have over it either. if someone wants to hack you or get your info, they dont need facebook to do it. someone could get your info through your tackle warehouse order or even from you having signed up to this forum. no matter how secure something claims to be, there is most always a way for someone to get around it and access info. and that info can be used to get other info about you and so on. just having the internet itself is all it takes...
  7. ok, i misread it, sorry bout that. but my post is still valid for those who do want to complain they cant enter because they dont have FB. its their own choice to not have FB...
  8. are you that desperate to win a free pack of soft plastics? or whatever the prize is for a given contest? because if you are, then you shouldnt have a problem creating a facebook page to enter...
  9. definately the drag, it seems like its way too loose as others have said. if fish are pulling out drag from the get go then thats enough to tell me its too loose. tighten it up some and try again. youre not getting enough pressure to set the hook because the drag is too loose...
  10. none of the walmarts i check ever have a 97 cents sale for anything. they all just have discounted sections of stuff, but never 97 cents. this includes four walmarts in my area, and 3 on the way to smith mtn lake...
  11. i got mine at wal-mart. here is a link that sells them, but ive never ordered from there so i cant attest to their service... http://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/rebel-tadfry-frog-tad/0000000024006
  12. sometimes when im night fishing at Smith Mtn Lake i will throw a cast net for bait, usually Alewives. Im not very good at it though, sometimes i get bait, sometimes i scare it away lol. i leave a light on shining in the water to draw in the bait. if i dont bother trying to catch them i figure it will draw in some bigger hungry fish anyways. most ive caught on the alewives are channel and flathead catfish. but alewives are really sensitive and stuff, without a really good bait tank its hard to keep them alive overnight. having a little aerator in the bait bucket isnt enough....
  13. i'd just love to see you or anyone for that matter break off a bass on 25lb mono. i cant even break it when i snag up on something when catfishing. and it handles nice stripers with ease for me. normally if i get snagged, i will end up bending the hook before i break the line on 25lb mono...
  14. left handed models are going to end in 01. like 5601, 6601, etc...i have a 5601 BCX ambassadeur and a 6601 C4 Ambassadeur
  15. what some people are missing here is and was mentioned once above, in NC when you buy a license online, you dont print the real license out, you print out a temporary license that is good for only 10-14 days, cant remember exactly, then they mail you a permanent license. so you cant print as many as you want. Now i dont know if that will prevent you from making photocopies once you get the permanent license. anyways, just go ahead and buy a new license altogether, you will have to in two weeks anyways. losing a couple weeks isnt so bad...
  16. i stay away from BPS reels altogether. when i bought my pflueger supreme spinning reel earlier this year my uncle was right next to me. he asked why i would pay a $100 for it instead of just buying "this" and he picked up a some little gold colored BPS reel. i proceeded to show him how much smoother the supreme was to the bps reel and he agreed. despite being wealthy, he still didnt want to pay the $100 for the reel, and proceeded to buy a johnny morris spinning reel over even the pflueger president i and the salesman recommended to him that was the same price as the JM reel. the JM reel was one of those with a narrow in height but deep spools, and the salesmen even told him it gave people problems casting once they got even a little low on line. all my uncle cared about was the lifetime warranty on the JM reel, i said yeah youll need it, thats why i got a reel that will last a lifetime with proper care. he had no response. now, my point isnt to trash bps reels as plenty seem to be happy with them, but i think there are much better options for comparable reels in the same price range as the BPS reels...
  17. never noticed it with any bass ive caught. but white perch have some sharp gills. i got cut by one this past weekend when it flopped and slipped in my hand. when removing white perch from a hook i always smooth the dorsal fin back down like sirsnookalot mentions above and be sure to push in their gills. theyre notorious for flaring out their gills when you grab them, i think they know theyre sharp and its a defense mechanism...
  18. The thing is, with religion and politics, they can be very divisive and can cause unneeded arguments between posters. I have seen it on many a message boards. and like others said no one really cares, and thats not meant to be disrespectful of you or your affiliations. its just best those things arent discussed here. at most, if someone is grieving, the mods have allowed threads for prayers to be sent out to fellow members who ask for them, but thats it and there is no actual discussion of religions taking place in those threads.
  19. it still smells and gets carried around. ill give you this story. i have an uncle who owns a farm. a different uncle lived on this farm in a construction type trailer. he has a colostomy bag for #2, but had to go outside to pee. well he got lazy and would just open the trailer door and pee outside off the side of the steps. over time it killed the grass and left a big dirt spot. well one of our friends walked up to the trailer to knock on the door and talk to my uncle, he walked up and stood in the pee spot when he did so. after he left he was smelling something funny in his truck, he eventually figured out what had happened lol. how do i know my uncle was peeing in this spot? one day i was going to the store and stopped to ask if he needed anything, it was pouring rain and there was my uncle peeing out his door and didnt see me pull up, i blew the horn while he was midstream, he sorta jumped and closed the door on himself still midstream, you know some had to bounce off the door back onto him and the floor, it was pretty funny LOL
  20. takes me an hour and a half to get there, thats why i only go 3-4 times a year. but its much closer than going to richmond...
  21. spincasters are just fine for bass fishing, its all some people use, and they have success using them. you just have to figure it out. when using your rhino combo did it come prespooled with line from the store? if it did, the first thing you shouldve done is rip all that line off and respool it with something different. 12lb XL sounds like a good choice. and also it sounds like youre underspooling your reel, which can cause problems too. when underspooled, its harder for the line to come off a spincaster reel. spool it until you have about an 1/8th of an inch lip left on the spool.
  22. i have a roland martin autographed hat i got him to sign at BPS over a year ago in MD, the hat cost like $5, the sig was free.
  23. you should give the rage tail toad a try, its one of my favorite top water baits. and sometimes the bass dont smash it hard. ive had them subtly come up and just suck my frog right off the top of the water into their mouths and never broke the surface. also i can usually tell the strike is coming with a frog, i see the water start to get disturbed around the frog, like a little boil in the water almost like the bass is circling it right before the strike. once i see the frog go under i set the hook, and that has worked great for me. some people say count to 3 or wait till you feel the weight of the fish to set the hook when frog fishing. i say by the time i do all that theres a good chance the fish will have spit the lure because i waited too long.
