  1. i could eat or live a little better with that $5 a day which adds up to roughly $150 a month. thats also money i could use on another extra fishing trip using the gear i currently have and would enjoy myself much more than staying at home with a $1000 combo sitting in the corner...
  2. i would have definately tried lizards...
  3. i prefer to invest more in reels than in rods, but then again i dont own any super expensive reels either. but the ones i have are decent working reels and i feel they will last me, and not easily fail mechanically. but rods have nothing mechanical about them, and i dont feel $150 rod is gonna serve me any better than a $30-$40 ugly stick. i just dont think the difference is enough to justify spending another $110-120 bucks on a rod. sure the $150 rod might be better all around, but still i am convinced its not that much better. for me its not all about the costs, but i would be lying if i said it didnt factor in somewhat. If you can afford to drop a bunch of money on top end gear, then thats great for you, i wont hate on someones financial position. while there are times i have the extra cash to spend on top end gear if i wanted, i just cant justify it to myself. what gets me is when people throw out thoughts like "your gear sucks, you cant catch fish with that" or "you have to have this or that to catch fish". i dont go around calling people snobby for buying top notch gear, and i dont expect to be criticized for my lower to mid level gear. bottom line is, no matter what gear we own, how much it costs, etc etc etc; we all own our equipment for one reason, that is to fish, something we all enjoy.
  4. the Rebel Tad Fry beats the small craws and crickhoppers easily when it comes to bream. its an amazing little bait
  5. Bassquatch is probably my favorite from this thread so far...
  6. i disagree with the underlined. i think the sensitivity of equipment angle is severely overrated and overstated. if you ask me, the ever so slightest difference in sensitivity is not nearly enough to justify the exorbitant prices of many expensive rods compared to cheaper rods...
  7. even though the bigger bass are most likely females, i like to say "Bubba" for a big bass... i also like to call them chunks... i remember Shimmy calling them "Betty" a couple times...
  8. not sure about 50 to watermelon park but watermelon park to 7 isnt that far i dont think. But they could spend time parked in a few spots in the canoe. if they find a good bite they may want to stay in one spot for a little while. plus they can still fish from the park...
  9. i only use mono for frog fishing, 12lb, never had a problem.
  10. i can certainly tell the difference between a skin mount and replica. i'd go for the skin mount every time. Wont be the first bass to die and wont be the last, wont destroy an entire fishery, or none of that baloney...
  11. id love to get on some great bluegill fishing with some huge bluegills. its been quite a few years, where my friend took me to this pond that had amazing bluegill. we caught a bucket full in an hour. no clue how much any of them weighed, but they had huge humps on their heads. that pond also had some great bass fishing
  12. the bottomline is, bluegill are voracious feeders and will hit almost anything, even if they cant fit it in their mouth...
  13. last time i fished the shenandoah at the Rte 7 bridge the water was pretty shallow, not even waist deep out in the middle, but that was two years ago...
  14. 5'6 Ugly Stik Lite-Pro, great little rod, i dont care what people say about ugly stiks...
  15. i agree with this. falls in line with my thoughts that i can buy a fake fish mount anywhere. id just rather have the real thing. yeah the replicas look good and all as far as the paint jobs. but they seem a bit "bright" as in the colors are too prominent and not realistic looking at all and thats one reason i wouldnt consider a replica of a fish i can keep. also, its just not the fish i caught which has all its original details still in tact, while a painted replica may be missing a thing or two the person making it didnt spot, overlooked, or ignored....
  16. spent last weekend at smith mountain lake. got skunked as far as bass, had a couple follows and thats it, was fishing from a dock. atleast the channels and flatheads were biting at times. got into a school of white perch for awhile early in the evening that saturday, which is usually a good sign for me for catfishing that night, then that thought got ruined when a thunderstorm ripped through and dropped golfball sized hail. though the hail stopped the storm pretty much lingered the rest of the night.
  17. replicas just dont do it for me. i actually prefer the looks of skins mounts. i dont think it is wrong at all to skin mount a bass. it comes down to a matter of preference really. i just feel like i can go anywhere and buy a replica of a fish...
  18. i was there this past weekend and couldnt buy a bass bite. had a few followers but no takers. i was also limited to fishing from a dock though, didnt want to take my uncles boat out since it hasnt been out since last september, leave that for him lol that hail storm saturday evening was vicious as well
  19. sometimes all the reviving in the world wont work to save a fish. i did manage to revive a small white perch this weekend i caught. i threw her back in and for whatever reason she just floated. i grabbed the net and worked her around in that a minute and she took off happy with her other white perch friends that watched me revive her....
  20. this works great as well, with crickets i like to use a small float
  21. While ive always had more success at night, actually just before dark seems like i hit a feeding frenzy too, catfish will feed during the day too but i never had much luck then. early morning a little before sun-up is good too. let us know how that secret 7 works. i thought about ordering some a couple times
  22. would help us tell you other ways if we knew the ways you were doing it... sounds like too much work and trouble just to catch a few bluegills. its not rocket science. a small abeerdeen hook with a split shot up the line and any kind of worm will catch bluegills all day long. if you want artificial, just toss out a Rebel Tad Fry...
  23. people wear braces for support all the time, and icing sore body parts is a common practice. kind of odd youve never heard of them
  24. i am probably headed that way this weekend to SML, cant wait to get down there...
  25. Last year i bought a small lure called a Rebel Tad Fry. its a floater/diver and has one small treble hook on it. i must say i had a blast throwing this lure and catching bream. they will hit it on top and will hit it while reeling it in. also caught a few bass on it when i tried it in a pond. its designed to imitate a tadpole...
