  1. i think he meant he casts then waits 30 seconds before beginning the retrieve. he may have waited too late to set the hook though also sounds like his drag is either too loose or broken...
  2. fishing farm ponds isnt always easy as people seem to think. i would agree a larger public lake or river is probably more challenging. but that doesnt automatically make ponds easy. ive been skunked on lakes, ive been skunked at ponds. ponds dont equal a guaranteed catch...
  3. thundersticks seem to be a popular night bait at SML. apparently good for bass and stripers. you may be able to get into some nice healthy stripers full of eggs this time of year on SML as theyre up shallow at night feeding on spawning alewives around docks. i got an invite to head down there this weekend, been trying to make it back there in april for 2-3 years now, just hasnt worked out, unfortunately i wont be able to go this weekend either...
  4. go to leesville for striper, yeah i know theres a ton of striper in SML as well...
  5. i know last year they had tons of rage tail products at the two particular stores i mentioned, this year very little. come to think of it, i dont even think ive ever seen a rage tail commercial on tv. perhaps they need to expand the advertising...
  6. HA! HAHAHAHA that was pretty funny
  7. never felt that way at all, its all part of the sport. even if you havent caught a fish off the bed, doesnt mean they will make it to grow big. ive seen bass eat what i assume to be their own fry, or atleast other basses fry. plus the many predators they will face while trying to grow will eliminate the fry population even more. baby bass fry are nothing more than bait fish really, atleast the ones that dont get ate before growing.
  8. chicken livers are good for eater size cats. i catch a ton of 3lbers on livers. are you sure you arent throwing them off the hook when youve tried them? i wrap mine with a short piece of elastic thread since last year and the hold on a lot better. now i can reel them in a bit at a time and not worry that they came off the hook either...
  9. I was dissappointed the last two times i went to a BPS. one in richmond, VA and one outside of Baltimore, MD. i have previously bought rage tail lizards and craws at both before. ive been to both this year, and neither had any craws or lizards. what a dissappointment, now i got to find somewhere else to buy them...
  10. just keep trying. also, the forum is a great place to gain knowledge, but so are the articles. have you read the articles on this website?
  11. i personally fish the zoom and the rage tail lizards and have had virtually equal success on both. im a big fan of rage tails, and i dont particularly care for zoom worms, but the zoom lizards are excellent and i cant find any substantial difference between rage lizards and zoom lizards as far as fish catching is concerned. both zoom and rage tail make excellent lizards with the main exception being price...
  12. i think using lizards is a great choice in baits. How fast did you fish them, i would drag them very slow along the bottom and probably weightless. you may also want to try different colors, maybe something in green with black speck... also like has been said, the fish may have seen you, back down or off the bank and cast to the target assuming your fishing from shore, if from boat then give yourself some more distance between the target and your boat. another bait that worked well for me on bedded bass last year was a white spinnerbait with a little red on the nose of it, using a 3inch white curly tail grub as a trailer
  13. all of a sudden my post doesnt seem so ludicrous now does it?
  14. lol at the excuses. just put in for a couple vacation days and use them to fish...
  15. if youre slowly trying to feel the weight of the bass before setting the hook then youre going to miss a lot of fish. if you THINK you have a bite, SET THE HOOK!!! it wont cost you nothing but a swing...
  16. haha cool story. the last 2 summers theres a bass that comes back to my aunt and uncles dock at Smith Mountain Lake. i just know its the same bass. only slightly grew in a year and wont bite a d**n thing. ive thrown everything at it. it always sits in one of three spots along the bank and travels back and forth between the three all day. ive thrown live nightcrawlers to it right in its face without a hook or line in the water and it wouldnt eat it, and will often snub its nose at it and swim away. ive never seen a bass that wouldnt eat a live nightcrawler when i tossed one out to it until i met this little guy, ive once again vowed to catch it this summer if it comes back again. and its not like its a huge bass, just iritates me it wont even eat a live nightcrawler thrown in its face. the one time it looked interested a 2.5lber swam up and promptly ate the night crawler so i stuck that one instead...
  17. all my tackle and lures and line and rods i buy in store. i have occasionally ordered a reel online
  18. i work in printing and bulk mailing. the work is always up and down. one week youre working 60 hours, the next youre working 30 hours and it doesnt look pretty going to the bank those slow weeks. but then again like you said, 20-25 hours every week wont support a family. for the time being i would slow down my pace some to pad my pockets a bit. in turn your company needs to realize some things. one, is the may need to lower their bids just to get you guys some work even if their profit is minimal. also, if they cant give you guys the work, they may need to let one or more of you go instead of stringing you along. or they need to split the work up more evenly amongst you. when work slows here, my boss will have people stay home without pay and some come in and work, the next day they will switch so atleast its fair to everyone, there is no employers pet getting all the hours while everyone else is scraping by... then again, you may need to continue looking elsewhere for a job more suitable to your needs...
  19. they should exchange it for you no problem. a month or so ago i was in walmart checking out the updated fishing section. looked at one of the vendetta rods on the rack, decided to check its flex, i barely bent the rod and the top of the rod just snapped right off, i put it back on the shelf and got the hell out of there lol. and people wonder why i like my ugly stiks so much.....
  20. i never get line twist when fishing a drop shot i havent broken a freshwater fish off in 5-6 years and that was a huge flathead on 8lb mono. and i did lose a couple saltwater fish in the chesapeake bay a couple years ago, but they coulda been toothy fish....
  21. lol slonezp stays killing me with the one liners, the guy is pure comedy...
  22. i once locked the keys inside my old dodge neon when i had it. i realized as i was closing the door my keys were still inside but it was too late to stop the momentum completely, though i did slow it down and it latched and locked but not completely closed. luckily at the time i always carried a spare key in my pocket for just such an occasion. i refuse to put a key in my wallet, its too uncomfortable and leaves an imprint in the wallet like a condom does. has anyone ever tried the cellphone trick to see if it works? i read about it somewhere online. where if you lock your keys in the car, and like your spare is at home. call someone at home on their cell from your cell. and the theory is they can hit the button to unlock the doors and the signal will travel through the cell phones and unlock your car doors. i have no idea if it is true or works though....
  23. bacon is kind of expensive to be using for bait, there are much cheaper alternatives that will work better or just as good im sure...
  24. white spinner baits and green colored lizards have worked well for me. but my all time top producing pond bait has been a berkley red shad shakey worm t-rigged...
