theyre really light, youll want to throw them in a light weight setup with small line or they wont cast anywhere lol. it floats on top the water and dives a little bit when you retrieve it. fishing off a dock with a down tree in the water by it, i just kept casting over the tree and the bluegill would come up and crush it...

LM - 4.5lbs - Smith Mountain Lake SM - maybe a half pound(LOL) if that from the Shenandoah River by the route 7 bridge. although i probably caught some bigger ones as a kid i dont recall while fishing the potomac with my parents in great falls. didnt know the difference back then though...

ive only used live crickets, i just hook them threw the body with a abeerdeen hook under a bobber with a split shot down the line, the bluegill are going to eat them regardless if alive or dead, so the ones in the can are probably fine too. the only fake crickets i ever used were rebel crickhoppers, and theyre more like grasshoppers actually. i catch bluegill and bass on the crickhopper. but i really like the rebel tad fry for bluegill too...

either you mean you use right handed reels, or you can hold the rod in the same hand as you reel with which would be quite the impressive feat... -------------- as for me, i use left handed reels, always reeled with my left hand using spinning gear and saw no reason to change that. im right handed, and prefer the rod to be in my right hand, just do not feel like i have sufficient grip on the rod if its in my left hand...

nightcrawlers have always been productive for me in picking apart a new pond. you may have to pick through a few bluegill to find the bass, but the bass will eat them just as well if they are there...

those suspensions are usually for guys who are repeat offenders. or have serious problems like ben roethlisberger and his womanizing...

ok yeah, Dumervil might get a serious suspension, but i still dont think it will be as harsh as Vicks. If Dumervil is honest when he talks to goodell he has a better chance at a lesser punishment. Vick lied to Goodell initially. In fact, i dont think the case to look at is Vicks, i would go back to Sean Taylors guns case(not his murder, his gun case) that happened in Florida as well, of course Tagliabue may have been commissioner back then, he wasnt as harsh in his punishments as Goodell, so maybe thats not a good baseline either. I dont think you will see any action taken against Dumervil by the league until the case is resolved, or atleast all the facts are straight, that could go along ways to determining the severity of his punishments. Regardless, many of these guys are stupid. Many make millions and the ones that dont make hundreds of thousands, and they drive drunk instead of paying for a taxi or a car service. Or they do something stupid like flash guns at people knowing they got millions of dollars on the line. idiots...

And if they are suspended, it wont be nothing comparable to the Mike Vick punishments...

meh, put the lures away and grab some crickets or a box of good old fashioned nightcrawlers... if you insist on a lure, i would buy a rebel tad fry and throw it to the open pockets in the algae, they will come up and get it...

so they can just crawl/walk right back into the water? perhaps theyre not helping as much as they think in reducing the numbers. really once theyre there in a water system, youre probably not gonna get rid of them at all, you can try to reduce numbers but theyll just breed some more.

a pond i used to frequent had a real bad problem with algae one year on the bottom and floating on top. a weightless texas rigged senko did work very well, other t-rigged weightless plastics will work too. unfortunately not much you can do with almost any bait about dragging algae back in and having to pick it off your lure. sometimes you will catch a fish and reel it in through the algae and lose all the fun of the fight as its like reeling in dead weight. also, a white spinnerbait in the clear sections has worked well for me too. i try to fish parallel to any algae patches as fish hide under them for shade. also, try going early in the morning or in the evening a little before dark when it has cooled off some. seems like theyre more active during those times.

^^^^LOL -------------- i do a lot of night fishing with nightcrawlers for catfish and whatever else bites. i often handle worms, chicken livers, shrimp, and multiple species of fish all night when the bite is good. one of the worst fish for getting stabbed or cut by are those small white perch i got on crawlers. their spines are sharp on the top fins and always seem to be sticking up when you grab them, also their gills are almost razor sharp it seems lol. i always grab them over the gills now. the spines have stabbed me numerous times as the gills have actually cut me too. also have gotten stung by catfish fins a few times too. does this mean i shouldnt put their slime on the stab wound to stop the stinging? lol but i never got any infections. if your hand is hurting when you push it, its probably infected. knowing me, i would be picking at it with fingernail clippers lol

i use 12lb mono with frogs just fine. i also disagree with the notion of waiting 2-3 seconds before setting the hook. chances are by the time you thought to count to 3, 2 of those seconds have past. soon as the frog dissappears off the top im setting the hook immediately and hard...

suck it up and tough it out. i have no sympathy for others minor toe injuries when im sitting here with only 9 toes. got in a fight with a push mower and lost(slipped and foot went under). the big toe on my left foot is no more than a small nub now...

just goes to show that you should always be prepared and have everything you need or might need with you. i lost a potential state record crappie at Smith Mtn Lake a few years ago because i didnt have the net down at the dock with me and water levels were down. rather than try to run up to the house and get the net and risk the fish flopping around and getting off in the water, i laid on the dock, grabbed my line and tried to slowly pull it up to where i could atleast lip it. got it up to where just the tail was left in the water and it was almost in reach and feeling confident i was going to land this thing, all of a sudden SPLASH. fish falls off into the water, turns out it bent my thin gold abeerdeen hook and fell right off. i never made the mistake of leaving the net up at the house again, and if i did i would march back up the steep hill to get it before the first cast was made...

for as little as i use a phone(i hate phones mostly) it wouldnt be worth it for me to get a smart phone, much less pay a monthly bill. i got a cheap little trac phone from walmart, mainly if for an emergency. i might use it 5 times a week, only family and a couple close friends have the number. i buy a 20 or 30 dollar phone card every 3 months and i get double minutes on it. its all i need and i cant justify spending more on a phone, especially when i will rarely use it. and no offense to people with smartphones, this probably doesnt apply to all of you, but ive met and seen many people who seem to let their cellphone dictate their lives, i find it quite sickening

I will fish for bass in the summer and/or anything else. Spent this past Wednesday-Sunday at Smith Mountain Lake. I spent more time fishing for cats than bass. Was skunked out on the boat for bass the one time i talked my uncle into taking it out to fish, I swear last trip before this one he had a fit when i pulled a striper in and threw it on the carpet lol. Had no success from the dock either. Of course normally all summer i see bass swimming around the dock there, nada this trip, water temps were in like the mid-80s. i assume because of the recent heat wave in the area that most bass had moved to deep water. At most i had a few not even 12 inch bass follow my baits in. So i focused most of my efforts on night fishing for cats and whatever else wanted to bite. Go figure this is when i caught a few bass over the course of the weekend on nightcrawlers on a drop shot. I believe that confirmed to me that the fish were deeper because the bass were much lighter in color than im used to from this lake. I ended up catching a bunch of nice 3-4lb channel cats in the 18-21 inch range on night crawlers, chicken livers, and shrimp. Night fishing ruled the weekend, fishing on the dock till 2:30-3am, there may have been bass out early in the morning, but i was asleep

Heading to Smith Mtn Lake in the morning, and possibly a slim chance maybe tonite. Hope the power is on there, either way good thing i dont need power to fish. Have a safe and happy 4th everyone.

yeah, a generator is the next big purchase on the list. bumped straight to the top lol. thats when i can find one of course. my luck, i'll buy it and the power will never go out again lol. might not have power till thursday though...
