  1. prayers sent, and a father-son trip to SML is what i was about to suggest...
  2. not north carolina, but you should check out Smith Mountain Lake too, its located in southwest Virginia. Its a beautiful lake with plenty of fishing opportunities. There are largemouth, smallmouth, and stripped bass in there. And on rare occasion, you have the chance for a white bass, musky, or walleye. There is also some big crappie and yellow perch in there. The white perch seem to finally be getting some size too as ive caught bigger and bigger ones over the last few years, but i here its because of them that the once strong white bass population is now suffering...
  3. Thats some classic hip hop right there, I usually listen to some wu-tang when im packing up stuff and reorganizing a few things the night before i go out of town on a fishing trip...
  4. not really a lucky song, but i've caught some nice fish almost everytime while listening to Dee Snyders House Of Hair radio show on Saturday nights at Smith Mountain Lake when night fishing off the dock...
  5. its possible. i had some random worms and flukes and craws i cut off still on the hook and threw in my tackle bag when i was done fishing for the day. they melted together, they melted into the plastic of a small flashlight and melted into some of those variety pack sinker cases...lesson learned for me
  6. never felt the need to keep a log, just not my style. maybe could be some useful information in there over the longterm, but then again i dont have the time to study it and put it all together either. plus you can have exactly similar days and conditions, yet the fish be on fire one of those days and have lockjaw on the other, in that case a log wouldnt help at all...
  7. the kind that is frayed and about to break
  8. I got a shakespeare tiger spincast combo from Wal-mart about 5 years ago or so that has served me well. Its my "lucky pole". Unfortunately the newer ones are made of more plastic than my older one is, which is metal. But it has handled bass, stripers, crappie, perch, bluegill, and plenty of catfish. The drag isnt the greatest with big fish, but it handles them, let them run and tire and then crank them in. ive sworn off zebco for the most part, meaning i got a couple old things by them but wont be buying anything new by them, unless one day i feel the need to replace my 33 reel. ill tell you what though, that 33 rod i have is tough, i had a 40+ lb flathead on there i thought was going to snap my rod, but the small line gave first, the rod was bowed over past a U shape lol...
  9. met roland martin at BPS in Hanover MD last year
  10. those fried apples are great, been awhile since i had them. also, i love breakfast for dinner. sometimes its sausage and gravy or biscuits with scrambled eggs and fried taters. or maybe pancakes or french toast with bacon, sausage, eggs, taters. rarely get grits, but i love em loaded with butter, salt and pepper... also, have had deer tenderloin with breakfast, yummeh....
  11. i dont even want to see RG3 on the field again until he is 100% healthy with no swelling or anything else going on in the knee. if he has to start the season on the PUP list or even miss the whole season to get healthy then i am for it.
  12. i prefer DirecTV myself. They have way more channels and a better HD package with more HD Channels. It dont know where yall are getting 600 bucks to add a box or two, unless theres a max limit to the number of boxes one satellite dish can have, we currently have 5 boxes on our satellite. if we want to add a box its like 20-30 bucks for the box and theres like a 6 dollar or so charge a month for the service to that box. my bill seems high, but its all because of stuff i added like Outdoors Channel, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz. Sometimes the service goes out during storms blocking the signal but its usually not for long and sometimes just the higher numbered channels. ive seen it not go out once during a 3-4 foot snow storm a few years ago, but if it does go out in snow i just sweep the dish off with a broom. since we moved, i had to duct tape a broom to a broom and stand on a chair to reach the dish on the roof from the back deck, but it worked lol. I used the dish networks at my grandparents house before and it just wasnt appealing to me at all...
  13. nice. but i have a question. is the lighting there that crazy that in one picture youre pants look to have two different color legs, and the next theyre the same. whats up with that LOL
  14. i got some floating worms in bubblegum color from Haw River Tackle that worked well for me last year
  15. i would make a phone call or show up in person and inquire on your status. forget the email idea altogether...
  16. i understand what youre saying and im not disputing it, but he was referencing fluorocarbon being too expensive for his everyday fishing the way he changes line out so he would prefer to use mono for the everyday fishing. theres simply no need to change out mono frequently unless your spool is getting low from lots of use is all im saying...
  17. guess you just skipped right over my post where i mention using 15lb line, a 1oz weight, and a MH rod. though i used live bait in my scenario, works with artificial too...
  18. i prefer cash, always have. but i will use my debit card for gas so i can fill up at the pump and for some larger purchases...
  19. try right clicking on the program icon and selecting i believe its "Run as Administrator". sometimes that works with older software, sometimes it doesnt...
  20. But this thread is about mono, not Fluorocarbon, so why would you even bring that up? also, line doesnt just up and go bad in a weeks time with proper care. If you just use a lot of line, thats one thing, otherwise youre probably wasting it while at the same time complaining about the price...
  21. like iceman11 mentioned, i would be throwing shallow diving cranks and bringing them across the top of the grass. i would also try a weightless floating worm and pull it across the tops of the grass as well. spinnerbaits too..
  22. This is probably the biggest mistake people make when drop shotting. The drop shot doesnt have to be a finesse technique with light line, deep water, etc. I often use it on heavy line when fishing for catfish in areas with grassy bottoms, and i use live bait or cut bait, not just artificial on it. The bass in my avatar was caught night fishing on 15lb line dropshotting a night crawler in shallow water(3-5 feet) just outside the edge of a grass bed near a couple underwater stumps, from a dock with a MH 6'6 rod. The rod was leaning up against the back of a bench as a "rod holder". The fish hit so light you could barely see the rod tip move, but i was able to s.natc.h(word filter) my rod in time and set the hook. It doesnt have to be a boat technique or a rod in hand technique either. i also used a 1oz bass casting sinker and a small gamakatsu dropshot/splitshot hook. i dont use the sinkers that slip off. though i dont get snagged much at this spot, id rather break off a ton of snagged sinkers than have them pull off just because theyre hung in a bit of grass that will pull away if the sinker is actually tied on. i wonder how many sinkers yall lose that you may not have with a tied on sinker...
  23. i think patience and staying calm are key to landing bigger fish. i havent hooked a huge double digit largemouth bass, but i have caught some decent stripers and sometimes you just have to let a fish run for a little before you can turn her around. really though, its all about knowing the difference between fighting/playing a fish as opposed to just simply reeling in a fish...
  24. doesnt hurt to try, it works with other fish, and if youre bass fishing on the side, you may want to attach a bell to your carp rod so you can hear it go off and dont have to be constantly looking at it, though ive never used a bell on a rod myself. i do a lot of bait soaking night fishing at smith mtn lake. sit back with a cooler of beer and wait. sometimes i fall asleep in the chair on the dock LOL, but when i wake up ill have a pole or two with fish hooked...
  25. i hooked a crappie at smith mountain lake a few years ago that was over 20 inches. i didnt have a clue what i had, but it took me on 3 nice runs and i couldnt stop it for a period of time. i finally got it in to the dock, the water was low so i couldnt lip it and i realized i forgot the net up at the house. this fish was worn out laying on top of the water on its side not fighting when i got it in, with its big pink lips fluctuating back and forth. i decided to lay down on the dock, and pull up my line by hand and lip the crappie. well, i got it out of the water cept for its tail fin when all of a sudden SPLASH!!! the d**n thing bent my thin gold aberdeen hook and fell off. i was so mad, really wanted a photo of that sucker...
