  1. i love fighting a big fish on light tackle, its just funner. ***waits for the "but youre stressing the fish longer and going to kill it crowd" to start crying...
  2. the chiefs 2nd round pick is almost like a first rounder. and the conditional pick next year can be as high as a 2nd rounder ive read. the chiefs got taken in this deal. its about time someone take andy reid in a QB trade, he has been doing it for years with guys like feely, mcnabb, and kolb. the thing is, alex smith isnt that good as some have mentioned. craww hit it on the head, smith is a game manager, if he falls behind, he is unlikely to lead a comeback victory. as for dwayne bowe, he is slated to become a free agent so the chiefs might not have him either, plus they cut steve breaston last week. as for talk of the chiefs winning the division next year, i doubt it, theyll be picking top ten again... also, the trade cant be made official until march 12th at like 4pm i think and after the league approves it. smith probably has to pass a physical with the chiefs too, which shouldnt be a problem but is typical in most trades. also not knowing the full terms of the trade, it could also call for smith and the chiefs to reach a new contract extension in so many days or the deal is off...
  3. i'm the same way, except its regular Budweiser for me, unless im out in a public place then its Bud Light. Otherwise i will drink other domestic lagers and pilsners if thats whats available. I'll try other beers too, but im really not into microbrews and ales and the likes lol. I do like the new Budweiser Black Crown beer, thats about as fancy as i get with beer.
  4. thanks for sharing your experience at the classic, gives those of us who have never been to one a small taste of what its like. sounds like you had a blast...
  5. pay more attention and focus on what youre doing. your equipment(line, rod, reel) isnt the problem.
  6. yeah youre way up there on the lake, ive never fished up that far. you ever fish for the flathead cats up that way? but back to the point. try learning everything about the water that is available to you like i have about the cove i fish from shore at SML. it has helped a lot. learning the grass beds and tree stumps and large rocks and such. i dont know if fluorocarbon makes a difference there, i only have 1 rod with FC and i see fish coming up and biting just the line up in the water column lol havent seen that with mono though
  7. What part of Smith Mtn Lake are you on, as in are you on one of the river arms(which) or near the state park or what? I fish from shore there often when my aunt and uncle invite me down and were not on the boat. In the spring the water is going to be cooler still, i have luck with baby bass kinami flash and pearl/white super flukes. i fish in the Craddock Creek area btw. i also throw small lipless cranks and jerkbaits/xraps. lizards and creature baits should also work well. and when all else fails, live nightcrawlers...
  8. not a lot of people have WFN. i asked directv why they didnt carry it one time. ill never make that mistake again. they respond wanting you to do all kinds of stuff to promote it in your area and get enough support for it, it was way too much
  9. sure you can hook a bass with a treble hook that small. sometimes i will fish for bluegill using a rebel tad fry and its only got one tiny treble hook, occasionally i will catch bass on it...
  10. espn needs to give the classic the same treatment as NHRA drag racing. where they air it the day it takes place, and possible live coverage down the stretch. wasnt the classic from lay lake live? why cant they do that anymore? it worked out well i thought. otherwise i have no desire to watch the classic a week after all the results are known, its almost pointless then
  11. haha, i dont doubt its a good rod. but i am of belief that the difference in sensitivity between high dollar rods and cheaper rods is so minimal that it isnt worth the extra cost (based on sensitivity as people often use as a reason for buying a high dollar rod). but anyways, i dont want to get way off topic, i was just trying to get a rise out of people.
  12. at first use i didnt really notice any differences and thought id wasted my money. but i bought it and kept using it. primarily spraying it on spooled line the night before a trip. i had some 25lb big game line on a couple catfish rods that was notorious for jumping off the spool or wrapping around the top of the rod tip. the KVD L&L stopped that completely. any remaining coils of line went away after a cast or two and the line soaking while i was waiting for a bite. also after a cast, sometimes i will spray it on then just to get some deeper in the spool. and also now if im spooling a reel fresh i will spray some on a cloth and let the line run through the cloth between my fingers as im reeling it on.
  13. .but....but...but...all that money for the extra sensitivity of a st. croix and you couldnt feel the bite?? LOL, sorry couldnt help myself, but some might get this... anyways, nice fish, im dying to get out but i want warmer weather lol...
  14. i work in printing and bulk mail. I handle the mailing lists and presort them for cheaper postal rates. i then take those lists and merge them into documents that are to be laser printed. I only laser black text that has personalization, any colors or heavy black solids gets printed out on the web press. I also make the files for the inkjet machines and assist on them when someone needs help... i been around this kind of work all my life. i can even help on the web press, jet press, folder, cutter, inserters, etc...
  15. there are a few partially frozen ponds i know of
  16. this reminds me of Tito's Vodka. it was recommended to me by the guy in the liquor store one day, he said it was just as good as the top shelf vodkas and cheaper. Also the bottle at the time had a label saying how it rated higher than Grey Goose, Belvedere, Ketel One, and Absolut. the Titos is pretty good...
  17. Elway wasnt drafted by Denver, he was drafted by and traded to Denver from the Colts because he didnt want to play for them...just to clarify
  18. ive seen this a few times, i have to agree its drop dead hilarious for the most part, they do some crazy stuff...
  19. If the Washington Redskins are on, im glued to the tv, not a chance im going fishing or doing anything else...diehard fan...if the game is on, everyone knows not to call me, text me, bother me, etc because im not responding till after the game....
  20. for bourbon i will stick to my Wild Turkey Rare Breed all day long, im sure there are better ones, but this one i like, not to mention its 108.2 proof. i usually fall just short of a pint in a night of solid drinking. a pint isnt much, but its $20 for that pint. after drinking most of that pint i feel a little dehydrated, but i never get a hangover...
  21. dont sleep on the color white/pearl, it can be very effective for a variety of bait types.
  22. ive searched for the thread and cant seem to find it. maybe someone else here remembers that thread and can get you a link. anyone?. if i recall correctly, and i might not lol, i think it was started by "paul." found it http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/70575-bass-on-a-shoestring-budget/
  23. nice, ive been trout fishing about twice in my life and never caught a thing. also got a warning ticket for possession of live bait in a restricted area of the river, the game warden was nice though, having never been there i didnt know i was in a special area...
  24. pretty much yeah. When i first joined this site i didnt think about stuff like that. But after a few years around here ive learned knowing the water youre fishing can help you out a lot more than one might think. To me, it makes more sense to learn the area im limited to fishing rather than trying to learn the whole lake of which i wont fish most of to begin with. Ive had more success after learning the cove than i have before when i was just "chunking and winding"...
